Company History
Few things enthrall George Press more than a fabulous diamond; his enthusiasm for the world’s most precious gem is positively infectious, and one reason why the jewelry emporium in Livingston that bears his name is such a success. To George, it’s quite simple. “When you love what you do, it creates a positive energy that people are drawn to.”
Located at 74 South Livingston Avenue in Livingston, New Jersey, George Press provides fine jewelry to Livingston and surrounding areas. For over four decades, George Press Jewelers has been the premier source for bridal collections, couture jewelry, timepieces and custom designs created by George himself. George, his wife Cheryl, and their expert staff have served the loyal customer base that now spans multiple generations.
“I have clients that came in 43 years ago to pick out their engagement rings, and now I’m helping their children do the same thing.” Born into a family of artists and photographers, George planned to continue the tradition by attending Pratt Institute, one of the nation’s finest art schools. He studied the great artists of the world, amassed a body of original work, and prepared to pursue a career in the arts.
Then a year before graduating, George took a summer job at a prominent jeweler near his home. As he worked with precious stones and castings, he discovered that his creativity worked as well with gold and diamonds as it did with paintings and lithographs.
After graduation, he continued to refine his skills by working with renowned jewelers, learning everything he could about gemstones, castings and design. In 1980, George opened his first shop on South Livingston Avenue. Fifteen years later, George Press settled into his current location, a classic stone edifice in the heart of Livingston’s central shopping district. The company’s relocation to the stately Mayflower Bank Building marked its transformation from a purveyor of fine jewelry to an area institution. After purchasing the historic landmark, the building was completely renovated while maintaining its architectural integrity and creating an exquisite yet inviting setting. The minute you walk in the door of George Press Jewelers, you are surrounded by light. Case after sparkling case of rings, watches, necklaces and earrings pick up the sunlight streaming in the windows. Music plays softly in the background and there is a steady hum of activity. Every customer who comes in the door is greeted by name or with a big smile.
