Glamourous Looks at the Grammys

This past Sunday our favorite singers and songwriters were celebrated at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The night was filled with amazing performances from artists such as Demi Lovato, Lizzo, and Ariana Grande. But before the actual show itself, there was the incredible red carpet fashion to enjoy and we simply loved it!

There were several particularly stunning looks – and of course some even more stunning jewelry. The style reporters were all abuzz over Ariana Grande’s TWO red carpet looks. We loved that with each glam gown she kept the accessories simple and classic, complete with coordinating satin opera gloves. Very classy indeed.

In case you need to make a quick outfit change at an upcoming event, but want to take keep the accessories simple, take a cue from Ariana and go with these two options:

These diamond studs by Gregg Ruth are so perfect you’ll want to wear them every day. Made with 18karat white gold, the pair features 1.57cts of diamonds.

A second option also by Gregg Ruth, one of our favorite designers, are these diamond drop earrings. A part of the Asher Cut collection, this absolutely elegant earrings features 1.32cts of various shaped diamonds.

Lizzo was looking and feeling good at this year’s Grammys. She had a lot to celebrate with her eight incredible nominations. We loved how she embraced her softer side with her red carpet look, and the layered necklace was the perfect accessory choice.

To add a layered look to a perfect low cut top, this grey cable and diamond necklace by Alor is the perfect combination of edgy and glamorous to work with a variety of outfits and occasions. Part of the Classique Collection, the Lady’s Alor Classique Grey Cable & Yellow Station Necklace consists of yellow gold stations that hold diamonds – two on the top cable, three on the bottom cable.

Adrienne Warren wore a beautiful caramel colored gown with perfectly coordinating earrings.

If you like the long drop earring look, these two pairs of earrings both by Honora gives you additional options depending on your color palate that day. Sleek and stylish these earrings are made with 18 karat white or yellow gold, complete with a freshwater pearl.

Camilla Cabello wowed in a black gown with cutouts and tiny crystals embroidered on the bodice. The minidress had a black lace skirt attached to its back that added a bit of drama. However, what we found to be the most dramatic part of her look was the incredible necklace she as wearing. At over 60carats of diamonds, you could have seen it sparkle from space!

This amazing necklace exclusively by George Press will also make the astronauts jealous. You’ll light up the room with this 18 karat Riviera necklace. Featuring 23.33cts of diamonds this fantastic piece gives Camilla’s accessory a run for its money.

As always the Grammys were an incredible evening celebrating different types of music from a wide variety of artists. We loved the songs, we loved the looks, and we of course loved all the bling.

Back to School Looks

The commercials and social media ads do not lie, back to school is upon us. As you read through the supply lists for your favorite students and shop for that new pair of sneakers and fresh new backpack, do not forget about those finishing touches that they won’t grow out of in a few short months: some new jewelry.

If your favorite little scholar is nervous about entering a new school, this bracelet could give her that extra boost of confidence as she walks the halls. Made with 14karat yellow gold and Mother of Pearl evil eyes, no mean girl will stand a chance.

Another option would be this evil eye pendant made with 14karat white gold pendant set with 0.18carats of diamonds.

After weeks of spending summer days together, not being attached at the hip come September might be a bit of a shock to you both. However, this 14karat white gold necklace with 0.14carats of diamonds will keep your bond strong and your heart close to hers.

Party Like a Rockstar at the American Music Awards

Who knew that a Tuesday night could be so stylish? Well, our favorite rock stars sure did! On October 9th musicians, actors and stars of all kinds celebrated one of music’s biggest nights, the 2018 American Music Awards. Every year the AMAs bring the red carpet glamour and fashion, and this year was no different. Glitter, sequins and metallics were everywhere! Between the entrances and the evening’s entertainment, this particular Tuesday was a lot more exciting than your standard weeknight on the couch.

Everyone could not stop talking about Taylor Swift’s metallic mini-dress and coordinating boots.

We personally loved how with such a bold outfit, she kept her accessories very clean and simple. Her geometric earrings really tied it all together.

A similar but rounder option are these black cable hook earrings by Alor. The pair is made with 18karat white gold and diamonds giving your look just that extra bit of edge…without head to toe metallic.

metallic fashion

One of our favorite country starlets, Carrie Underwood picked a starburst embellished velvet gown, perfectly complimented by her leaf-like earrings.

Well, we can’t think of a better time to embrace foliage-inspired accessories than the fall season. Delicate yet intricate, this sterling silver and 18karat rose gold Hera Palmera leaf pendant features 0.40cts of diamonds and is the perfect piece to layer over your new long sleeve top for these chillier days.

fall fashion

Tracee Ellis Ross, the host of this year’s AMAs definitely brought her fashion game, and kicked off the night in a cool-girl take on a the traditional “business suit” with a stand-out necklace.

If you are looking to take your business look up a notch, this incredible pearl and diamond necklace is just the ticket. The delicate Buccellati six strand choker style pearl necklace features 18karat white gold and a 0.72ct diamond clasp. Now that is what we like to call glamming up the board room!

Dua Lipa, a New Artist of the Year nominee wowed in white with her elegant dress.

The sweetheart neckline cut of her gown made it an ideal spot to show off a flattering necklace. This simple yet sophisticated necklace by Alor is a unique look that will have everyone inquiring. The twisted grey cable overlaps and meets with two diamond studded stations at the base.

The American Music Awards celebrates the music that is voted on by fans, and as usual our favorite artists did not disappoint. With red carpet looks that included fun surprises like mega metallic mini-dresses, over the top florals, and killer suiting, 2018 will definitely go down as a highlight.

And do not worry, we made sure to take copious notes on the best accessories for over the top ensembles, so the next time you plan on wearing a gown that cannot be missed we will have the perfect jewelry on hand just for you.

A Big Night for Television and Fashion at the 70th Emmy Awards

Many consider the Emmy Awards the biggest night in television, with millions of people tuning in to the broadcast each year. This past Monday marked the Emmy’s 70th year. A-listers of the small screen were dressed to the nines after a weekend full of pre-parties. The looks were full of color along with a touch of fun but ultimately incredibly glamorous.

Between the great one-liners, celebrity cameos and glamour galore, there was certainly no end to the must-see moments from the show. Some of our favorites included the amazing accessories some of our favorite stars selected to complete their looks. The sparkle factor was definitely huge this year!

Mandy Moore had an incredible look for this year’s Emmys. Her bracelet alone made us stop in our tracks! If you are in the market for a show-stopping bangle, these two options could be just what you are after.

From their Classique collection, Alor’s stainless grey cable and diamond bangle is an eye-catcher and has just enough edge to it that when paired with the right outfit, can easily transition from day to night.

If you want something with a lot more sparkle the custom George Press bangle definitely delivers! The stunning design features three overlapping rows of 18karat white gold and 2.21cts of exquisite diamonds.

Many people could not take their eyes off of Rachel Brosnahan’s incredible hombre gown. For us, it was the earrings. With her hair swept up her earrings became quite the stand-out accessory.

You can give your lobes some love too with these diamond chandelier earrings. This simply breathtaking pair is made with 18karat yellow gold and 10.56cts of beautiful diamonds. When you wear them out on the town, follow Rachel’s lead. Wear your hair up and keep your neckline bare so you can really showcase these incredible earrings.

Penelope Cruz had a look that we just loved. We could not help but be drawn to the breathtaking necklace she was wearing.

In fact, we carry almost the exact same necklace in our store! With this around your neck, you will feel like a celebrity in no time. Designed by Gregg Ruth as part of the Asher Cut Collection, this beyond amazing piece of jewelry is made with 18karat white gold and 6.60cts of twinkling diamonds.

If you have your heart set on an Emmy look similar to Sydney Sweeney’s we have something that will make you go all “a flutter.”

Another custom George Press piece, the Heart Rivera necklace is a classic look with over 4.20cts of diamonds.

If playful jewelry is more your style, Samira Wiley definitely looked like she was having fun with her look on Monday night.

You can be grinning ear to ear too with these carefree earrings framing your smile. These Lady’s Rose 18karat tassel earrings are made with diamonds and pearls and will make you so happy you will feel if you won your very own Emmy.

Speaking of being happy and carefree, do you remember the days of bingeing on episodes of Felicity? As soon as we saw Kerri Russel that is all we could think about. Well, that and her amazing earrings.

Channel your still-strong love for Felicity and transport yourself back to 1999(ish) with these spectacular earrings by Doves. These lovelies are made with 18karat rose gold with over 2.30cts of white and cognac diamonds. You will radiate elegance the moment you put them on. After all, Felicity…we mean Keri Russel isn’t the only one that has grown up.

No matter which of your favorite celebrities you were hoping to see rock the red carpet, or which show you were rooting for to sweep the Emmys this year, it was without a doubt a great show that we could not wait to rehash on Tuesday morning. It was TV’s biggest party of 2018 and we definitely enjoyed being one of the guests. From the comfort of our couches and sweatpants of course.

New Looks for Little Learners for Back to School

It is that time of year once again. A day equally loved and loathed by many – back to school! For some it is the adventure of a new school, for others it is the thrill of seeing friends again…and for all of us it means the end of sleeping in on a random Tuesday. No matter if you child is starting kindergarten or their last year in college, it is a moment that pulls at the heartstrings of most parents.

And as your child runs off into an exciting year of learning, perhaps you can surprise them with a special treat that they can adore just as much as that perfect new backpack you helped them find.

This adorable children’s ID bracelet would be a great gift for that special little girl in your heart. Made with 14karat yellow gold, it features a sweet pink enamel heart. You can also have it engraved with your child’s name, or even perhaps a nickname for something extra meaningful.

A new school year may also mean a new set of nerves during those first few weeks. Perhaps it is some unfamiliar faces, or a new set of hallways to navigate as a smaller fish in a bigger pond. No matter if the obstacle is big or small, you can make sure your little learner knows that you are by their side with this special mother of pearl bracelet. Made with 14 karat yellow gold, each pearl has been expertly transformed into an evil eye, and will give them an extra boost in confidence knowing you are always there for them no matter what the challenge.

If you like the idea of the evil eye theme, you can also choose this gorgeous pendant. It is little more grow-up for your favorite older scholars, but the meaning behind it remains the same and they will love it just as much. The piece is made with 14 karat white gold, set with 0.18 cts of diamonds.

A classic gift for any milestone moment is always pearls. Fortunately Honora has some great, more playful designs for our younger wearers.

The Honora pearl stretch bracelet comes in a variety of colors giving you plenty of options. Each bracelet has 10 7-8MM multicolored ringed freshwater cultured pearls.

Another great choice that is still sweet, but packs a little more edge are these leather and pearl bracelets also by Honora. Available in both pink and purple (both favorites of most little girls!), each bracelet features a soft braided leather with sterling silver details, and matching stone along with complimenting pearls. It will for sure be a treasured piece for years to come.

Back to school is such a special time for so many. And while we may dread the end of summer, knowing that our little learners will get to experience a new year filled with new memories makes the start of school feel like it can have endless possibilities.

And as you watch them climb onto that bus, or start the drive back to campus, any of these pieces of jewelry will keep you in their hearts and on their minds as they begin this year’s adventure.

Must-Have Jewelry Trends that Revive your Favorite Looks

As we (finally!) start to move towards spring trends and embrace a new season, it is time to give our accessories a little spring cleaning and revive some classic looks to make them more distinct and personal. These range from pendant necklaces to layer, gold hoops of all sizes and statement rings that cannot be missed.

Eye-catching pendants are always an unexpected way to add some flair to an outfit, and you can get way more mileage out of your jewelry collection if you know how to layer your pieces. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, or worry about spacing your necklaces out evenly. In fact, some necklaces with pendants will help your chains stay untangled.

To break up a solid colored top, wear necklaces in the same metal. Two beautiful options would be these sapphire and diamond necklaces by Gregg Ruth.

The top pendant is made with 18 karat while gold featuring 0.23cts of diamonds and 1.54cts of sapphires. The equally gorgeous one below is also made in 18 karat white gold with 0.34cts of diamonds and 2.43cts of rich blue sapphires. By pairing these two stunners together, imagine the extra sparkle it would bring to your favorite understated top!

1 2If you plan on wearing a brighter blouse, go for a pendant that is a little more subtle in color – but is still attention grabbing. Gregg Ruth has some amazing options to choose from. This incredible spiral diamond pendant features 1.96cts of dazzling diamonds and would catch anyone (and everyone’s) eye.

Another possibility with a similar refined look, but in a different shape (and definitely not lacking in sparkle!), is this diamond pendant from the Gregg Ruth Asher Collection. This incredible necklace features 0.73cts of diamonds.

Also, don’t be afraid to mix masculine with more feminine pieces. A chunky chain can make your more delicate accessories pop even more. And what could be more delicate than some adorable baby footprints? Or maybe a pawprint?

6 Both necklaces, designed by Monica Rich Kosann, come on a 30” diamond-cut chain and feature white sapphires.

How many gold hoops do you think you have packed away in your jewelry box? One….two…ten?!  No matter how many or few you may have, this is the season to bring them out of hiding and make a statement. If you are looking to add some new ones to your collection, Alor has some great choices to fit any style or budget.

This classic pair is made with 18 karat yellow gold and puts a small twist on the classic gold hoop.

Or for a look that is a little bolder, this pair of hoops features 0.10cts of diamonds.

If you are loving the layered look, you don’t have to stop at your necklaces. By wearing these little numbers you will immediately add a whole new level to your style with one pair of earrings – and some subtle sparkle as well with 0.16cts of diamonds.

A few weeks ago we looked into the history, legends and lore of cocktail rings. Well, this season it is time to up the ante a little more with statement rings meant to stack. Go ahead and throw a hand party and invite all of your favorite rings of different shapes and sizes. Just be sure to keep the rest of your look simple so your hands can really steal the spotlight (and don’t forget about that manicure!). If your ring guest list is looking a little lean, we have some great choices to bring some new life to the party.

This Masai yellow and white gold five strand ring has a stackable look all its own. It is made with five strands of interwoven 18 karat white and yellow gold and gives you the look of multiple rings all in one!

10 If you are yearning for something a little “extra,” this beauty by Marco Bicego could be just what you had in mind. This unique Goa ring is made with seven rows of 18 karat yellow gold, and 0.41cts of diamonds.

If you want something a little more unexpected and with a little more edge, this white gold ring by Alor strikes the perfect balance. A part of the Classique collection, this stainless steel fashion ring is made with 18 karate white gold cable, featuring 0.08cts of round diamonds.

Everyone has their favorite go-to pieces, despite how many you may have in your drawer or jewelry box. While always reaching for your tried and true pieces makes things easier, hopefully these tips on reviving those classic looks – with maybe some new pieces thrown in – will give all your must have jewelry a fresher look.

Love Is All Around!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Are you looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?
We’ve got some ideas, just for you!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. It is a time when you can feel the love that is all around. The air smells sweeter that day (probably thanks to all the flowers, chocolate and candy!), and most people’s eyes sparkle a little bit brighter. In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the UK, France and Australia. According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday!

Do you know what would go great with one of those sentimental cards this year? A piece of new jewelry, of course! To keep your love close to her heart, we have several beautiful necklaces from our Shoshana line to choose from.

Either of these Shoshana Open Heart diamond and sapphires necklaces will make her fall in love with you all over again. They come in two styles, with one in 18 karat yellow gold, featuring diamonds and sapphires, or one made with 18 karat rose gold set with 0.62cts of rubies, 0.59cts of pink sapphires and 0.28cts of diamonds. Your love for her will shine through with either option. You cannot go wrong.

For something with a little more sparkle, the Shoshana rose gold and diamond heart pendant will capture her love – and take her breath away. This dazzler is made with 18 karat white and rose gold, set with 0.78cts of fine white and fancy pink round diamonds.

If she would like something a little more playful, you can pull right on her heart strings with a Shoshana Hearts within Heart pendant. This delightful design comes in 18 karat white gold with a colorful array of 1.18cts of pink, yellow and blue round sapphires.

For your more understated Valentine, this sterling silver locket by Monica Rich Kosann could be a great option. Imagine the smile that will spread across her face every time she looks down and sees a special photo beautifully displayed in this necklace, right next to her heart.

The chocolates you plan to give her will taste even sweeter as she admires this elegant sapphire and diamond bypass ring by Shoshana – she won’t even mind if she picks her least favorite filling! The two heart shaped sapphires, set with 0.61cts of diamonds will make her heart (and taste buds) do a happy dance.

All of those sweet nothings you plan on whispering into her ear over the candlelight dinner you have planned will sound extra poetic when these ruby and diamond earrings frame her beautiful face. Featuring heart shaped rubies, these little numbers are made with 18 karat yellow gold, framed by 0.92cts of baguette diamonds.

What about the littlest Valentines in your life? We have some sweet ideas for them, too.

Imagine their face light up when they first see this custom George Press signature heart necklace that you picked out just for them. Made with 14 karat white gold, and set with 0.14cts of diamonds, you will make your little darling feel like the most special girl in the world (and bonus points if you get Mommy a grown-up heart shaped necklace too).

Another adorable and classic choice is an ID bracelet. Each bracelet is made with 14 karat yellow gold with a pink enamel heart, and can be engraved with a message of your choice as unique as your little Valentine. Every time she looks down at it, whether at school or during one of her activities, she will think of you and always remember how much she is loved.

We wish you and your loved ones non-stop love this Valentine’s Day. We hope it is a day filled with smiles and chocolate. No matter how you plan on celebrating, as the wise Katherine Hepburn once said remember that “love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Bringing the Party with Cocktail Rings

Have you ever wondered how cocktail rings got their name? During Prohibition, a celebratory cocktail was about as big a status symbol as anything you could wear. It was vital that everyone noticed your illicit beverage, so women took to wearing bigger-than-life rings to complement their cocktail of choice. With such an impressive history and can’t-be-missed allure, colorful cocktail rings are the perfect accessory for any occasion you have on your agenda.

Traditionally a cocktail ring is larger and chunkier than most rings, with a very big center stone and bold, edgy vibe. Oftentimes, these rings are seen as an expression of individual style but it can be tricky with so many options out there.

If you have long, slender fingers, any kind of cocktail ring would work well. You lucky gal! Get the (cocktail) party started with this incredible rose gold lapis ring by Doves. This stunner is made with 18karat rose gold with a lapis base white mother of pearl middle, and light amethyst on top. Surrounded by diamonds it is checkerboard cut and from the Viola collection.

Another fun choice by Doves would be this 18karat white turquoise and diamond fashion ring. The design features one cushion white topaz over a turquoise gem, both encircle with round white diamonds.

You can also wear cocktail rings with wider bands, as these tend to accentuate the length of your fingers. Add some serious shine to your outfits with either of these Shoshana diamond rings.

Our multicolored ring will match any cocktail (or dress) of choice with 5.81cts of sparkling, multicolor and multishaped diamonds.

For something a little more understated (but still stunning), this 18 karat yellow gold flower ring features 1.17cts of various shaped diamonds.

If your fingers are more on the shorter side, you should pick cocktail rings with smaller stones and thin to medium-sized bands. If you prefer a ring with a center stone, choose ones with stones in these cuts — marquise, oval, and pear.

Any of the rings from our Jaipur Collection would work beautifully. Each are made with 18K yellow gold and come in a variety of colors such as light or deep purple amethyst, blue topaz or red garnet.

For something a little bolder, you may want to try this elegant 18karat yellow gold ring by Marco Bicego with a dark aquamarine center stone.

To make wider fingers look more slender, opt for cocktail ring with large center stones. Our Shoshana line once again has some great choices for you depending on your mood or event.

This multistone ring features garnets and green quartz accented by diamonds.

Or if you are feeling a little spicy there is this 18karat white gold beauty. It is set with a Mexican Fire Opal center stone surrounded by 1.41cts of fine white and black round diamonds.

If your outfit needs even more bite, make a bold statement with this 18karat white gold smoky quartz and garnet ring with 1.92cts of accent diamonds.

Cocktail rings with smaller center stones or those with no center stone at all are perfect for the ladies with thin fingers. Wearing rings with huge center stones give the illusion of making fingers look slimmer, so this is the type you shouldn’t wear. As for the width of the ring, choose bands that are not too thin and are not too wide.

This unexpected piece will add some excitement to whatever you are wearing. Our Shoshana moonstone and diamond right is made with 18karat rose gold and 5.10cts of moonstone with 0.58cts of round diamonds.

If this ring doesn’t strike your fancy, another from the Shoshana collection just might. This little lady features a stunning 1.00ct champagne diamond and 1.01cts of fine diamonds. What could possibly look better on your hand as you enjoy a flute of cold champagne?

Regardless of what type of fingers you may have, a universal “rule” for cocktail rings is that the ring chosen should not extend past the bottom of the knuckle to avoid overwhelming the hand. And speaking of hands, it is important to remember that a cocktail ring draws attention to the wearer’s hand. So, use it as an excuse to treat yourself to a manicure (as if you needed one). Happy cocktailing!

An American Music Awards Hoop-La!

For the second week in a row we have been treated to our favorite singers and songwriters pulling out all the stops and dressing to the nines for another awards show. This week’s red carpet – the American Music Awards – was full of fun fashion and most important to all of us, beautiful jewelry as well.

This red carpet is a place where celebrities can take style risks and show off their edgy sides. On Sunday night, the stars did just that. Selena Gomez, Diana Ross, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and many others rocked some fierce looks. Instead of darker colored gems, this time the red carpet was all about hoops of all shapes…and sizes!

The talk of the evening was Selena Gomez’s new hair color. Everyone may love a blonde, but we loved her earrings even more. (Image: PopSugar; Credit: Getty, Neilson Barnard)image1

Her look combined the best of both worlds: hoops and dangled earrings. You can do the same (leather dress optional) with these earrings by Belle Toile. A part of the Concentra Collection, this piece showcases delicate rings of sterling silver woven together to create a beautifully complex design to represent the collection’s concept of connectivity and alignment. The sparking white stones are pavé-set into rhodium-plated, nickel allergy-free, 925 sterling silver.

A great way to add some sparkle to any of the items in your closet are these absolutely gorgeous Shoshana diamond hoop earrings. These stunners are 18 karat white gold with 7.02cts of round diamonds, and will add a touch of elegance to any outfit.

Ashley Simpson made a statement with her choice of hoop earrings as well. (Photo: US Magazine; Credit: Getty/Neilson Barnard) Paired with her incredible gown, you couldn’t miss them! Well, no one will miss you in these earrings by Alor. While definitely more understated than Diana Ross’ daughter-in-law’s look, this classic pair will still help you dress to impress. The earrings feature an intricate combination of yellow, rose, and bronze cable with 18 karat white gold and stainless steel.

If you tend to gravitate toward less dramatic hoop earrings, do not worry. A few of your favorite stars do too. Maia Mitchell (Photo: US Magazine; Credit: Getty/Neilson Barnard) and Yara Shahidi (Photo: PopSugar; Credit: Getty/Neilson Barnard) both selected delicate hoops to tie it all together.

If you want that little bit of extra sparkle, these diamond fashion earrings by Doves could be ideal. These 18 karat white gold hoop earrings feature 0.96cts of sparkling white diamonds in a timeless design.

If perhaps you prefer your hoops more on the modest size, you can try these 18 karat yellow gold medium narrow hoop earrings from Marco Bicego’s Jaipur Link collection, or a similar look also by Marco Bicego, these Marrakech hoop earrings in 18 karat white gold. You cannot go wrong with either choice.

Regardless of whether you like your hoop earrings big or small, with lots of sparkle, or none at all, you can always find the perfect pair to compliment your outfit. It has always been a timeless and trusted look that works well for any occasion – and most importantly, for anyone.

Great Jewelry Stands Tall at the SAG Awards

In keeping with this season of celebrity prominence, the 2017 SAG (Screen Actors Guild Awards) took place last week at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.  In typical fashion, we at George Press took a good long look…at their jewelry!  Say what you want about awards shows, whether you find them glamorous, fascinating or annoying, they are usually great harbingers for the season’s upcoming fashions, both clothing and jewelry.

We were not disappointed.  The jewelry this year was nothing short of flamboyant.  If we were bird watching, we would have been seeing eagles, flamingos, toucans and more! We did spot some consistent trends and a couple of new ones we’d like to applaud.

Bringing Back “Suite” Jewels

First shout out goes to Amy Adams! Amy was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead in “Arrival.”  Unfortunately, she didn’t win.  But she wins our award for breaking the unwritten rule of nothing matches anymore.  Amy shone in a suite of Cartier jewels, bracelet, earrings and choker featuring blooms of aquamarines, sapphires and diamonds.  The effect was breathtaking and it matched!  All of it!  Fresh blue color, exquisite form, we thought it had the most impact on the runway, and we hope it earmarks an upcoming trend.

We have exciting matching jewelry at George Press, too.  For example, Ivanka Trump also matches in blue with her Patras Aquamarine collection.  Elongated aquamarines set in 18K white gold and diamonds are sophisticated and oh so beautiful.  One makes an impact by itself, but both pieces together have a powerful presence.  Why wear only a little of something you love, when you can wear your heart on your sleeve?

White Collar Jobs

As we said, we do love our diamonds though, and again we were not disappointed.  Kudos to Viola Davis on her outstanding “fringed” diamond collar necklace. It was a shining star in the crowd. We also cheered Kirsten Dunst and Dascha Polanco for layering diamond collar necklaces. Kirsten combined an elaborate fringed diamond necklace with a simple strand of beautiful stones, while Dascha wore three, a tassel, a necklace of diamond “florets” and a strand of larger diamonds.

We think this George Press Diamond Necklace would make a great fashion find for some lucky ingenue. Whether worn alone or in a layering scenario, this 18k white gold scalloped necklace features 2.06 cts of diamonds in an enchanting feminine setting, custom designed and created by George Press.

SAG Awards

Here’s to the Ears!

Of course, the ubiquitous statement earring was, by definition, everywhere, at the SAGS.  Sophia Vergara won the category for boldest with her blazing diamond “wing” earrings, closely followed by Sarah Paulson in diamond wreath earrings.  Diamond drop earrings were also much in evidence, thanks Natalie Portman and Ellie Kemper, and diamonds in general sparkled on notables like Evan Rachel Wood, Amanda Peet and Sophia Bush.

Make a statement yourself with earrings like these Gregg Ruth Diamond Drops with 1.43cts of diamonds set in 18K white gold.

Gregg Ruth Diamond Drop Earrings

Or better yet, steal the category with these custom-made George Press Diamond Drop Floral Earrings. Forget about a SAG trophy, these 18K white gold drop earrings with 7.28cts of sparkling diamonds will be all the trophy you need!

We wonder how many of you watched the SAG awards this year.  Did you notice any of the celebrities’ jewels?  How about the fashions?  Nicole Kidman’s green bird dress, yea? Or nay? Drop us a line on Facebook and let us know what you were thinking during the show.  We’d love to hear from you!

To Choker or Not to Choker – That Is the Question

When it comes to chokers, people are strongly divided.  Some love them, some hate them, but no matter how you feel, you can’t deny that they are hot, hot, hot, right now. Chokers are one of the few necklaces that should be selected with some thought.  First and foremost, consider your comfort.  A choker should fit just right.  Too loose and it will slide down your neck.  Too tight, and the discomfort will drive you nuts.  Look for one that has flexible styling, such as chain links or ties that can be adjusted to your needs. A well-fitting choker should rest about one inch above your collar bone.

Consider also the shape of your neck.  Is it short? Then opt for thinner chokers.  Is it long? Then go as wide as you like, or even stack one or two thinner chokers with a wider one. Chokers can also be a woman’s best friend for camouflaging lines on the neck or small scars.

Although chokers have been trickling onto the fashion landscape for a while now, if you watched the Golden Globe awards on January 8, 2017, you saw chokers being born into the full glamour spotlight on the red carpet.

Boho Chic

Michelle Williams (nominated for Best Supporting Actress for “Manchester By the Sea”) wore a simple black strand tied choker style around her neck.  A little too simple, if you ask us.  We far prefer this semi-casual choker style offered by Alor in silver, gold, or black stainless steel cable with 18K white gold and round diamonds. It adds just the right Bohemian touch to so many outfits while still looking chic.

The Big, the Bold, and the Bling!

Diamond chokers were also a big hit at the Golden Globes. Reese Witherspoon (2006 Best Actress- “Walk the Line”) rocked a yellow gold and diamond choker, while Emma Stone (2017 Best Actress- “La La Land”) opted for a gorgeous Victorian style diamond choker with pendant, created by Tiffany & Co. in 1909. We have some wonderful red carpet contenders at George Press that could easily go toe-to-toe with their selections.  For example, this Gregg Ruth Asher Fancy Link Diamond Necklace is breathtaking in 18K White Gold and 6.60cts of sparkling diamonds.

Feminine Flair

Nicole Kidman, (nominated for Best Supporting Actress in “Lion”) selected a two- strand, 48 carat diamond choker necklace to complement her gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown at the Golden Globes. Always the epitome of taste and elegance, Nicole previously wore an antique amethyst and diamond riviere choker to the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 2.  With her love of soft feminine colors and motifs, we think she would find much to appreciate about this Diamond and Pink Sapphire Choker in 18K white gold. Delicate pink sapphire studded flowers dance elegantly around a white gold “vine” with diamond accents. A fitting ornament for a star.

A Choker for Every Woman

Shout out to Ivanka Trump for her stylish Rock Crystal Necklace interpretation of the choker.  Modern as can be in 18K rose gold with a center rock crystal, it is a versatile necklace that dresses up or down and goes from day to evening with ease.  We love the rose gold touch which warms up and highlights the sparkly rock crystal.  This look jazzes things up in a subtle way, while still looking cool and effortless.

So don’t fear the choker ladies, it doesn’t have to keep you on a leash.  Master the art of finding the style that suits you best and you’ll be able to enter a new and happy relationship with fun and fashionable chokers!

Stargazing – The 2017 Golden Globe Awards

Take a golden globe, wrap it in a filmstrip, put it on a marble base, and you’ve got the quintessential element for a night of Hollywood stargazing and fashion trend-spotting!

The Golden Globe awards took place on Sunday, January 8, with all the aplomb, speculation and downright gossip these events can muster. Beautiful actresses, handsome leading men, gorgeous gowns, and of course, the best jewelry that money can buy (or that can be loaned gratis to important celebrities!)

This year was no exception. If you ask us, the jewelry outshone the gowns, if not the lovely ladies. Even a casual observer would have noticed several trends either emerging or being confirmed.

Leave the Cuffs on!

One of the more obvious stylings was the presence of big, bold cuffs.  Kristen Wiig wore a polished gold Chanel cuff and Ruth Negga also chose a gold cuff with a large ruby. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ cuff was slathered in diamonds.  But the award goes to Blake Lively and her matching emerald and diamond-bedecked cuffs that added a superhero touch to her black and metallic gown.

Thinking about trying this twice-as-nice trend?  Let us suggest a pair of these Alor Petra Diamond and Brown Stingray Cuffs. 18 karat gold and stainless steel cuffs with brown stingray and colored and white diamonds are sleek and sophisticated, especially when paired.  Imagine these with a beautiful cashmere sweater, or enhancing your slender wrists in a sleeveless dress. Tap them together and let the magic happen!

Stingray Alor Brown

Rings on Her Fingers…

Tracee Ellis Ross of “Blackish” fame fluttered her fingers for the camera all night to flaunt her diamond-laden hands.  Twelve rings, ten fingers, she took it to the extreme!  But she was far from the only celebrity wearing multiple rings, mostly of the diamond variety.  Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore and Janelle Monae were also caught red-handed with bling fingers.

Thinking of giving your wedding ring a little companionship? How about this Karina Cluster Ring from Gregg Ruth? Featuring 1.27cts of diamonds in 18K white gold, this sparkler will attract all the paparazzi!  Feeling like a star?  Go ahead, add another. This White Gold and Stainless Steel Fashion Ring from Alor fills the bill easily!

Lady’s Alor White Gold and Stainless Steel Fashion Ring

The Ears Have It

Some trends are holding firm.  Sienna Miller wore simple pearls, Emma Stone a diamond pendant necklace, and of course, statement earrings are still going strong.  Whether cuffs or chandelier, cascades or studs, large diamond earrings were very much in evidence throughout the night. Natalie Portman, Sophia Vergara, Anna Kendrick, and Lily Collins were just a few to claim this award.  Here at George Press, we have given the diamond earring award to these South Sea Pearl and Diamond Earrings, featuring South Sea pearls and 3.46cts of diamonds set in platinum for a truly opulent experience.

Also tied for first place are these gorgeous 18K Yellow Gold Diamond Satin Earrings from Doves. Contemporary styling gives these dazzlers a fresh twist that is sure to draw attention from fans and rivals alike!

Yellow Gold Diamond Satin Earrings

The Night’s Hottest Trend

Finally, we wouldn’t be your trusted jewelry fashion advisor if we didn’t point out the night’s most newsworthy trend.  That’s right, the choker stole the show.  Love them?  Hate them? More on that later.  For now, the list of choker wearers looks something like this- Emma Stone, Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and more.  Emma Stone wore a vintage 1909 Tiffany & Co. diamond choker with feminine Victorian styling.  We think this one from our Estate Collection is equally beautiful. 9.5cts of diamonds are stunning in a vintage platinum setting, proving that true classics are always in style.

Now that you have the inside skinny, you better get started on your acceptance speech. We think you might be up for a lifetime achievement award for always being the most stylish person in the room. Try to keep it under two minutes or we will play the award theme music. If that doesn’t work, we might have to ask George Clooney to escort you offstage. Wait…that might not be so terrible after all….

Minimalism Galore

You’ve all heard the expression “less is more” and there is a trend towards decluttering one’s life and getting rid of unnecessary baggage.  Tiny homes, green living, locally sourced food all have their fans.  For some there are financial reasons, for others, it is about embracing a feeling of lightness, freedom, and ready exploration.
This minimalistic trend is also making a presence in the world of jewelry.  Before all of you “bigger is better” advocates get your feathers ruffled, let me reassure you that an occasional minimal look can be quite delightful.

Even our faithful designers are making some concessions to this new trend.  Typically, minimalistic jewelry will be light in color – think white gold, silver and platinum, and light in weight.  But it can pack a powerful impact!

Minimal Marrakech

A trio of bracelets from three different designers make a great illustration for this topic.  First, we have Marco Bicego’s Marrakech Diamond Bracelet in 18K white gold with 0.15cts of diamonds.  The twisted intricacy of this bangle immediately marks it as something special, something crafted by a renowned jewelry designer. This bracelet turns and sparkles on the wrist with an effervescent insouciance. Light-hearted and sophisticated, it’s an eye catcher of the first degree.

Beaded Beauty
Doves 18K White Gold Diamond BangleNext up is this Diamond Bangle from Doves.  Part of the Diamond Fashion Collection, this 18K white gold bangle is delicately embedded with brilliant diamonds.  The “beaded” bangle brings the look full circle. Exquisitely designed and crafted, minimalism suits this look to a “T”. The wearability factor is also off the charts, you can wear any of these bangles any day, any time, anywhere.

Bold and Brilliant

Our third selection is the Flex Forte Thin Bezel Bangle from A.Link. In 18K white gold with round diamonds, this bangle is polished and self assured.  Dainty and elegant, it is the perfect accessory any time of year.  The bezel setting is also very much in fashion, so it’s two trends in one. Alor also makes several “sister” bracelets if you are looking to stack bangles, or why not consider pairing it with the two previous selections?  Stacking may not be minimalistic, but it sure looks great!

Just to be clear, we are not saying that you should sell 95% of your belongings and move into a tiny cabin on wheels.  Heck, we wouldn’t do it even if we could!  We just want to let you know about this fun new look that can be a nice change of pace now and then.  Minimalism isn’t limited to bracelets, we have a lot of beautiful earrings, rings and necklaces that also fill the bill. Minimalist items galore. Now isn’t that fun!

Got the Holiday Blues?

Rose Gold Lapis Diamond Ring

We’ve got the cure!  Have you ever seen blue look more beautiful than it does in this  Rose Gold Lapis Diamond Ring from Doves’ Viola Collection. The center stone is an amalgam of lapis topped with white mother of pearl and crowned with light amethyst.  A checkerboard cut perfectly highlights its shining depths and layers of color. The 18K rose gold and diamond setting brings out the luster of the center stone.  With this ring, no one will care what else you’re wearing.  Really, you might as well be naked. But that might get chilly.

Turn It Up!

No, we don’t mean the thermostat, for a change!  This 18K Rose Gold Ring from Alor will warm things up for any of your special ladies. A simple way to say “I Love You” to anyone from your significant other to your favorite niece. Embracing the Bezel, Embracing the Stone

Think of a bezel as a metal collar that snugly holds a stone or other object in place.  Sometimes the bezel rises slightly above the edges of the stone. Sometimes it is flush with the stone, and sometimes it is folded down over the edges of a stone.  Watches commonly have bezels that hold their crystals in place.  Bezels are smooth, secure settings that serve a variety of purposes.

Bezels are one of the most protective settings available.  Also called a “rub-over” setting when applied to diamonds, a bezel setting helps keep the diamond in place and avoids snagging the prongs of a regular setting on clothing or hard edges.

This also makes a bezel setting suitable for holding more delicate stones, like opals or mother of pearl.  In fact, if you have a stone that is slightly chipped, you may be able to reset it in a bezel and no one will ever know!

Honora puts the bezel setting to beautiful use in this White and Black Pearl and White Topaz Ring. A white, baroque coin freshwater pearl snuggles in amiable companionship with black mother of pearl and a sparkling white topaz in three sterling silver bezel settings. Yes, black mother of pearl, with a faceted cut.  A luscious, creamy baroque pearl and a stunning white topaz.  The eye doesn’t know where to go first, and the pure simplicity of the silver setting is all that is needed for this enchanting trio.

Sleek and modern, a bezel setting is also a very contemporary look. This Flex Forte Bezel Diamond Dust Bangle is exactly what we’re talking about. In 18 karat white gold with round diamonds it is always the right bracelet to wear. Or better still, stack it with the Flex Forte Thin Bezel Bangle for a dynamic duo!

Marco Bicego certainly knows how to fine tune a bezel to his own advantage. His Aquamarine Lunaria Ring practically revels in its 18 karat yellow gold bezel setting.  The etched finish of the setting highlights the color of the aquamarine stone like the sun breaking through the mist on an early morning beach. There couldn’t be a better way to set this stone.

One final note – don’t think that all bezels have to be simple circles, they can be any shape and quite elaborate also! These George Press Coin Cufflinks are a perfect example of the bezel as an art form. Here, George Press wraps two Roman Empire bronze coins circa 100-400 A.D. in a romantic treasure chest of opulent 18 karat green gold bezel. Shiver me timbers!

Practical and beautiful, the bezel is a jeweler’s tool to be used for a purpose, in a decorative way, or both!  Take a look through our designer’s gallery and see how many bezels you can spot, then tell us your favorite on Facebook!

Topaz and Citrine-the Bounty of November’s Birthstones

When you think of November what comes to mind?  The color of the leaves?  The bounty of the harvest? Giving thanks, and the last warm rays of the sun before winter truly sets in?

All these things are reflected in November’s birthstones, the traditional golden topaz and its less expensive, but no less beautiful, alternative, citrine. Citrine has been called a gift from the sun and Topaz was believed to be a tribute to the Egyptian Sun God, Ra, and the Greek Sun God, Jupiter.  You can imagine ancient man clinging to this warm hope as long desolate winters approached.

But the past is past, and modern man has come far enough to appreciate topaz in all its incarnations. Like sapphires, topaz is available in a rainbow of vibrant hues, and citrines range in color from lemon yellow to reddish brown, and even beyond.

London Calling

There won’t be any huddling around a cave fire when you’re wearing this Doves’ White Gold Lapis Diamond Ring. The gorgeous London Blue center topaz doesn’t feel the cold at all.  Set in 18 karat white gold and outlined in diamonds, this ring is positively aristocratic. Think Lara in her billowing white furs sledding to the winter palace with Dr. Zhivago – you’ll be perfectly warm.

Winter White

Or chill out with Phillip Stein’s Horizon White Topaz Bracelet in sterling silver. According to Phillip Stein, this collection utilizes natural frequency technology to help you focus and relax.  It also looks fantastic.  Picture it on your wrist, smooth, sleek and oh so calm. We’re relaxing just thinking about it….

The Finer Things in Life

These earrings make us think of Regency-style jewelry, though rendered in modern technique and materials. Natural Arizona turquoise is blended with white mother of pearl and white topaz to create an opalescent, shimmering drop earring accented by 1.18cts of gracefully swathed diamonds. A flood of images is called to mind; Caribbean waters, beaded gowns, Greek vases, and the treasures of a mermaid’s trove.  We want them all, don’t you?

Hearth and Home

Exotic colored topazes are wonderful to be sure, but George Press doesn’t hesitate to remind us of the allure of traditional golden topaz.  His Topaz and Diamond Ring warms our feet by the fire. Classic scrolls embrace a honey-colored topaz, offset with fine black and white round, brilliant diamonds in 18 karat gold.  The effect is luxe and stately, like a classical soprano trilling arias beside a grand piano or 50-year-old scotch in a Baccarat crystal glass.  If you can only have one topaz, then this is the one to have.

Fortunately, you can have as many of these as you wish. If topaz is your birthstone, it’s practically your obligation to explore! Set off for London, the North Pole and the Caribbean, then come home and rest your weary limbs by the fire as you remember your adventures. It certainly beats bringing in the sheaves!

Fantasies in Black and White – Classic Jewelry and Halloween Costumes!

Is there anything more classic than black and white?  Yin and Yang, day and night, naughty and nice?  It’s amazing how these black and white jewelry selections can help bring your Halloween costume fantasies to life!

   Snow White

Maybe today you feel as innocent as the day you were born.  Butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth.  Everything is rainbows and unicorns. Let your inner light shine on the hoi polloi.  We can make it happen.

This Lady’s Contemporary White Gold Fashion Ring from Alor is just what you need. Refreshing and bright, it radiates your inner glow out into the world. In 18 karat white gold with round diamonds, it is Glinda the good witch coming down in her bubble to save the day. Life around you will just be better, you’re an angel!

The Dark Side

Now for something black and mysterious. Perfect for those who favor spooky Halloween costumes; witches, vampiresses, brides of Frankenstein and sultry seductresses of every sort. Feast your eyes on Alor’s Lady’s Black Ribbon Bangle Bracelet. Reminiscent of wrought iron in New Orleans’s French Quarter or hand-drawn embellishments in old manuscripts, this bracelet tantalizes with its old world flavor.

On the other hand, since gothic inspiration is so very today, it could also be described as strikingly modern and youthful. Pair this black ribbon cable in stainless steel and white gold with a chic black sheath and your sophistication factor will rise by a mile.

The Good, The Bad and The Beautiful

Of course, to take black and white to its fullest potential, nothing is more successful than pairing the two.  This Black Sterling Silver Stingray Cuff with Pearls from Honora can do just the trick. You wouldn’t describe this bracelet as delicate or subtle.  No, it’s bold, confident and powerful!  Manifest that image just by slipping it on.  Wonder Woman’s cuffs were also known as the Bracelets of Submission.  What will you call yours?

Black Sterling Silver Stingray Cuff

Portrait of a Lady

Beaded flapper dresses from the Roaring 20’s and the daughters of Downton Abbey, a splash of art deco flair from this Honora Square Onyx and Pearl Bracelet sets just the right tone. Accepting a tipped hat from a doorman with an ever so gracious nod, it’s lunch in the city and an intimate supper with elegant friends.  We love the look and the way the soft warmth of the pearls plays off the crisp sparkle of square onyx and sterling silver. Gold highlights make this wearable with so many other pieces.  Truly the best of both worlds.

March 17th is right around the corner, and with it the rollicking celebration known as St. Patrick‘s Day.  Now you don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patty’s Day, but sure and begorrah, you better be wearing your green!

We love green stones at this time of year anyway, because they seem so symbolic of spring and regrowth.  Flowers are pushing up their leaves and before you know it , new grass shoots will be covering the lawns. Can’t you just smell the air after a spring shower….mmmmm.
This Marco Bicego Jaipur Color Tourmaline Ring captures that moment perfectly in 18 karat gold with green tourmaline. It’s enough to make us buy dozens of tulips and put them all over the house!

Or maybe you love the stately elegance of lilies? Then you may prefer these Doves Agate and Diamond Earrings in 18 karat white gold featuring green agate.  Look at that beautiful true green. These would look gorgeous with green eyes, blue eyes and brown eyes too! As long as they’re Irish eyes, and they’re smiling!

Finally, stop and admire the allure of this platinum George Press Diamond Eternity Band with 6.84cts of emerald cut diamonds, enveloped by two 18 karat gold channel rings, each set with 3.74cts of square peridot.  It deserves a parade all of its own!

So have fun on St. Patty’s Day, dance a jig if the spirit moves you, but above all wear your green.  Here’s wishing you the luck of the Irish!

Making A Splash!

Do you fancy yourself a secret mermaid? Do you have an affinity for the sea and things beachy, or languid sun-warmed pools? Is your birthday in March? Then it’s no surprise that your birthstone is the dreamiest blue-green shade of beryl known as aquamarine. Literally, “water of the sea”, in olden times aquamarine was said to calm waves and keep sailors safe. It was also thought to keep marriages happy. Of course, that could be said of most gems!

Aquamarine comes straight from the earth in beautiful six-sided prismatic crystals. The largest gem-quality aquamarine crystal ever mined was 19 inches long. How amazing that it survived intact like that! Queen Elizabeth’s “Brazilian Tiara” has a remarkable center aquamarine which was given to her as a coronation gift from the people of Brazil. The Brazilian government also gave an 1,847 carat aquamarine to Eleanor Roosevelt in 1935. It’s great to have friends!

Aquamarine sparkles so brilliantly and has such wonderful color that it is one of the most popular gems, with jewelers and customers alike. A lot of modern designers are incorporating aquamarine into their lines. Ivanka Trump knows how to get aquamarine to do her bidding. From her Patras Collection, this Horizontal Ring is a pool of beauty in 18 karat white gold with micro pave diamonds.

Likewise, these Patras Aquamarine Drop Earrings in 18 karat white gold with diamonds are so in vogue right now, they could be right from the red carpet. That center blue is a little bit of heaven tethered to the earth by diamond cords.

Marco Bicego Aquamarine and Gold Lunaria Necklace

Marco Bicego also takes the plunge with his aquamarine and 18 karat yellow gold Lunaria line. This brings out the sunny-side of aquamarine and is perfect for day-to-evening wear.

So versatile, so scrumptious. Lots of women choose to wear aquamarine regardless of their birth month. But March ladies, you wear it with entitlement! That’s your birthright! Let others be jealous of your secret mermaid status. We won’t tell anyone.

Fashion at Your Fingertips!

Let’s face it ladies, we put lots of time and money into looking our best.  Not the least of which goes to our favorite weekly therapy, manicures!  The trends for nail polish are strong this fall with loads of unexpected twists.  So play up your beautiful nails with these equally gorgeous pieces from the always fashionable George Press!

Embrace your dark side with fall’s hippest trend.  Dark nail colors of wine, black and especially blue are rocking the runways.  Blue has never been more popular, in all it’s incarnations of midnight, metallic, cobalt and sapphire. This London Blue Topaz and Diamond Ring from Ivanka Trump plays up the mood perfectly with an edgy shade of blue that will showcase your sense of style.

Nail art also continues to be a front runner, with thin stripes, chevrons and small squares taking pride of place.  A particularly fetching design is to outline the nail with contrasting top and bottom stripes.  If you really want to wow them, top it off with this George Press Custom Topaz and Diamond Ring in 18 karat gold with fine white and black round brilliant diamonds.
