Great Looks at the Golden Globes

Last weekend our favorite stars of both the big and small screen gathered together to celebrate the 2020 Golden Globes. They hit the red carpet in looks that ranged from simple and sincere to bold and beautiful. The night was full of spectacular style moments, from classic glamorous gowns, to a risqué naked dress, or spiffy tuxedo – and great accessories to boot!

One thing that we did notice is the dominance of blue and green jewelry all along the red carpet. We especially enjoyed seeing our favorite starlets branch out from diamonds. We had to stop ourselves from giving them a round of applause from the comfort of our couch!

Wedding Anniversary Eternity Bands

Wedding ceremonies are a joyous event, bringing family and friends together to celebrate the union of two people in love. However, it is the years that follow this special day – the wedding anniversaries – that really call for celebration.

Eternity bands, aptly named for the one that you will love forever, are always a great choice for an anniversary gift. There are several George Press original designs available to give you plenty of options to choose from.

Was your wedding color pink or green? Either of these sets of bands would be absolutely stunning. Both feature one platinum eternity band set with 6.84cts of shimmering emerald cut diamonds, complimented by either two 18karat yellow gold channel rings, set with 3.74cts of square peridot, or two rose gold channel rings, set with 4.19cts of sapphires. You simply cannot go wrong with either option.

If you are looking for some eternity bands with a little less color but a lot more sparkle, this set of three diamond bands could be ideal. The design is just a touch unexpected, giving it that little bit of mystery that made you fall in love all those years ago.

These eternity bands layer on the love with one platinum band set with 3.94cts of round brilliant diamonds, surrounded by two 18karat yellow gold bands, each set with 3.06cts of both fine white and champagne round diamonds. After all, who doesn’t love champagne on their wedding anniversary? We just happen to love it best in diamond form. As will she.

Another option could be a single eternity band vs a set. By choosing this option you can pick a style that compliments her original wedding band for an updated – and upgraded – look. Fortunately we have several styles of single eternity bands as well.

This vibrant platinum band features 7.85cts of dazzling emerald cut diamonds.

Another emerald cut option is this beautiful band with 6.84cts of diamonds.

If round cut diamonds is more your style, this eternity band is simply breathtaking. A true symbol of your love, this band features 6.21cts of diamonds.

For something more subtle, look no further than this classic eternity band with 0.43cts of diamonds.

As you celebrate your upcoming anniversary, a new eternity band can serve as a beautiful reminder of how your love has no end. These rings, each the shape of a circle, symbolize eternity and how strong ones love can be for another. From all of us at George Press, best wishes for a wonderful anniversary!

Graduation Gift Guide

It is graduation season! Cue the pomp and circumstance and get those caps and gowns ready. Whether it is high school or college, graduations are milestones in any person’s life. It often marks the beginning of a new chapter full of both excitement and anticipation, and is a time of celebration. When searching for the perfect gift look for one that will send them into their next journey with an extra sense of pride…such as a wonderful piece of jewelry that can be treasured for a lifetime.

For our favorite high school graduates, they are about to embark on adulthood. As they head off to college, a gift that he or she can hold close to their hearts would be ideal.

A classic necklace would be a great way to start off a new graduate’s jewelry wardrobe. By keeping the look simple and timeless, she will be able to wear her new favorite piece for years to come. Either of these two pendant necklaces would be a great choice. Both are expertly crafted to be the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, from jeans to a cocktail dress.

If you are shopping for a son, grandson or nephew, a bold new watch could be a great start to his jewelry collection. Any of the Swiss Army watches we carry would be a great choice, especially ones from the original collection. It was Victorinox Swiss Army’s first timepiece design, established in 1989, and it is just as precise and stylish now as it was then.

Our favorite college graduates are at an incredible time in their life. It is the turning point when a young person truly becomes independent, joining the workforce and starting their careers. To start them off right, a great gift will help them feel confident during all those interviews.

For a young woman, consider beautiful pearl jewelry. It is the perfect accessory for both professional and fancy attire. This gorgeous pair of earrings by Alor is sophisticated and a little unexpected.

Another choice could be this more understated pair of earrings by Marco Bicego. A part of the Delicati collection, this style represents a “delicate” tribute to the joy of traveling and was inspired by Marco’s favorite collections.

If she isn’t one for earrings, this cable necklace featuring 18 karat rose gold would look beautiful with a freshly pressed suit.

An elegant and professional watch is also a great gift option for any college graduate. Philip Stein watches are in a category all of their own. The design incorporates well-being benefits with an iconic, luxurious look. Each piece is made with the brand’s special Natural Frequency Technology to help the wearer feel and look his or her best from the inside out.

Graduate school is an accomplishment a bit unlike the others. These degrees tend to be a challenging commitment, and is an accomplishment a person should be enormously proud of. Reward your loved one’s hard work with something befitting of a professional.

A diamond bracelet is a beautiful way to celebrate all of her hard work and dedication, and is a piece she will treasure forever. After all, an incredible accomplishment deserves an incredible gift.

This diamond and sapphire bracelet features 9cts of oval blue sapphires, 2.10cts of baguette diamonds, and 0.53cts of round brilliant diamonds.

A classic – but less historical – option are these handsome 18karat white and yellow gold Florentine cufflinks set with 0.13cts of round diamonds.

Graduation is an important time for all families. It ends one chapter, and simultaneously begins another. Congratulations to all of the graduates out there. We wish each of you the best of luck in your next adventure!

Show the Love with some Great Bracelets this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day gifts come in all shapes and sizes – from the extravagant engagement to a home cooked meal or homemade craft. However, the ultimate tried-and-true gift to show your forever love and admiration will always be fine jewelry. No matter how cute that popsicle stick picture frame might be.

Our friends at Forbes magazine just came out with their list of luxury bracelets for Valentine’s Day. We figured we would do you one better and put together a George Press version for a local twist on the Forbes favorites.

Forget about chocolates and candies. This year give her a stunning bracelet that really hits the sweet spot. This bracelet by Marco Bicego is made of mixed gemstones and 18karat yellow gold. All of these colors give you a look that is eye candy encapsulated.

To put a fun spin on the ultimate day of romance, you can opt for bracelets on the less formal side. This Deakin & Francis skull bracelet is definitely not a traditional choice, but just imagine the card inscription possibilities! The phrase “until death do us part” now takes on a whole new meaning once she opens this gift box.

Another unique choice is this can’t-be-missed octopus bracelet. It will add some fun and excitement to any outfit…in eight tentacles flat. It is made with 18karat gold, and will definitely bring a smile to any recipient’s face. However, perhaps do not give it to her over a plate of calamari.

If you have something more big and bold in mind this Valentine’s Day, either of these exquisite bracelets will make it a holiday to remember. You can show her how she sets your heart on fire with this stunning lady’s rose bracelet. Made with 18karat gold, it features 13.28cts of oval rubies and 1.67cts of round brilliant diamonds.

If you would rather play it cool, this incredible bracelet brings a whole new meaning to “cool as ice.” This bracelet perfectly showcases 9cts of oval blue sapphires, 2.10ctw of baguette diamonds and 0.53cts of round brilliant diamonds. With all of that sparkle, your Valentine will have a hard time playing it cool once she feasts her eyes on this work of art.

Why not forgo the traditional flowers and get her a floral inspired bracelet instead? This lady’s white 18karat diamond and blue sapphire bracelet will definitely last a lot longer than any bouquet from your favorite florist.

Another option would be this lovely pearl bangle. It is made with 18karat yellow gold with an open design featuring a round South Sea pearl on one end and a yellow flower with a diamond center on the other. The bangle is simple enough to wear every day, but can easily transition to a nighttime look with complimenting accessories.

You will make her heart soar with either of these delicate butterfly bracelets. There are several symbolic meanings for butterflies across cultures. A perfect one for Valentine’s Day (from Chinese culture) is that two butterflies flying together symbolizes love.

Both of these lovely bracelets are made with 14karat gold and are available with either a mother of pearl or turquoise butterfly.

An unexpected bracelet is a great way to get your beloved’s heart racing this Valentine’s Day. From floral inspired pieces, to more geometric looks, and the tried and true tennis bracelets. At George Press we have some truly exceptional designs. Come in and visit us so we can help you pick out the perfect gift from our store and onto the wrist of your loved ones. Happy Valentine’s Day!

2019 Golden Globes Red Carpet

Red carpet gowns are always known to make bold fashion statements. Following last year’s black tones in support of the Time’s Up movement, Sunday’s dresses turned back to technicolor and brought an extra level of fun to the most boisterous ceremony of the awards season. We saw colors from all across the rainbow, complimented with incredible jewelry that we could not help but gaze at.

Lady Gaga who has worn dresses made of raw meat in the past, chose a more elegant option this year complete with matching blue hair and an incredible diamond necklace.

A handful of others such as Elizabeth Moss, Taraji P. Henson, and Isla Fisher, also added some sparkle to their necklines to bring an extra level of glamour to their red carpet looks.

Do you tend to favor the look of old Hollywood? If so, this alluring antique style diamond necklace will make you feel like Audrey Hepburn in no time. Made with 18karat white gold, this “oldie but goodie” features 1.24cts of round brilliant diamonds.

Another style with an even higher sparkle factor is this diamond Riviera necklace. Forget about those pesky camera flashes from the paparazzi, because this beauty will light up any room all on its own! With 18karat white gold and 23.33cts of diamonds, this necklace will make you will feel like a celebrity.

Perhaps your personal star power prefers a breathtaking necklace with a more geometric feel to it. Our friends at Gregg Ruth have beautifully combined symmetry and elegance to create an exquisite necklace that can rival any red carpet look. This incredible work of art is from the Asher Cut collection, featuring 6.60cts of sparkling diamonds.

Sandra Oh had quite an exciting night as both a host and an award winner. During the broadcast she donned several beautiful looks. However we were particularly taken with her gorgeous ensemble on the red carpet. Her beautifully upswept hair gave her gown a more romantic look, and allowed us to take a peek at those lovely earrings she wore before the celebrations began.

A similar pair of Tiffany earrings by Schlumberger will give you a grin as big as Sandra Oh’s – without having to change your gown countless times! This timeless piece is made from 18karat gold. Schlumberger’s designs were coveted and collected by the world’s most fashionable women, including Jacqueline Kennedy and legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland. Today, they continue to be worn by women of unimpeachable taste.

Michelle Yeoh was the talk of the red carpet when she flashed a very special piece of jewelry that she wore in Crazy Rich Asians: the enormous emerald ring. And this lucky starlet did not borrow the bauble from the film’s wardrobe department – it is actually hers in real life! Lucky girl.

But Ms. Yeoh shouldn’t be the only one with an impressive emerald ring in her jewelry box. Henry Dunay created this amazing ring with a standout design. It features 3.60cts of diamonds and vivid emerald and sapphire cabochons that will turn heads and get people talking. Do not be surprised if a big movie’s wardrobe department soon calls you for styling tips!

Kristin Cavallari was one of the pre-show red carpet commentators, so you know her fashion game had to be top notch on Sunday, and it definitely was.

The designer and former reality star looked incredible in her detailed dress. Our favorite part was of course her pink drop earrings. If you love them as much as we do, check out these beauties made by Doves.

This exquisite pair of rose gold drop earrings feature rose quartz and 0.64cts of black and white diamonds. With these framing your gorgeous face, you too will be on top of your fashion game. Flesh colored dress not required.

Last year’s Golden Globes red carpet made a bold political statement with the black dress initiative. This year had a tough act to follow, no matter how much tulle, spanx and hairspray our favorite stars had at their disposal. Nevertheless, the 2019 red carpet was full of looks that did not disappoint with a variety of colors and accessories for all of us to enjoy. With such an explosion of color and sparkle, it was quite the kick off to awards season. Is it time for the next red carpet event yet?!

A 2019 Preview

The New Year is almost upon us and with it brings the renewed sense of excitement and anticipation for what 2019 might bring. We may not be able to predict the future, but we can predict a few new jewelry looks that you will adore.

Our friends at Marco Bicego have been hard at work putting together a brand new collection for you to feast your eyes on. The Africa collection is full of pieces consisting of bold spheres of various shapes and sizes. Each look is bold, yet remarkably light and fluid.

The newest items in this collection were inspired by tribal jewelry and the soft dunes of the Sahara. Available in sapphire, emerald and ruby, each has been hand engraved by Italian artisans using 18 karat gold and carefully selected stones for a touch of color.

No matter what your personal style, or the type of look you are after, you will find the perfect necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings amongst the newest pieces in this collection.

If you still do not have that perfect accessory for your New Year’s Eve ensemble, this gorgeous necklace also by Marco Bicego just might inspire you. Adorned around your neck, the Africa Constellation large pendant necklace is a subtle nod to the famous ball dropping in Times Square…without the crowds or frigid temperatures.

This incredible necklace is inspired by the glistening effect of the Savanna night sky. Made with 18 karat yellow gold, it features hand-engraved boules with multi-sized diamonds, meticulously placed to brilliantly sparkle.

Were you lucky enough to receive all the jewelry on your wish list this year? That is great to hear! What is even better is that we can do any adjustments you might need on these fantastic new pieces. Perhaps you were gifted an incredible new watch or bracelet, but it does not quite fit. We can expertly readjust it so it feels like it was made just for you. If you were surprised with a breathtaking heirloom ring that was the ideal size for your grandmother, but is too loose on you, please come and see us. We will happily resize it so you can start off the New Year with your newest accessories fitted perfectly.

We hope that all of you had an incredible holiday season filled with endless love and laughter, and all of us at George Press wish you nothing but the best for the start of 2019. May it be filled endless hopes and possibilities, and incredible new jewelry!

Fall Into Fall With Opal

While September 22nd may have officially been the first day of fall this year, many of us try and hold onto summer for as long as we can…or at least until October. Well, October is officially here so dust off your favorite autumn decorations and dig around in your closet for a comfy pair of boots. For some of us there is a lot more to celebrate than the return of pumpkin spice everything: October birthdays!

And what better way to celebrate one of your favorite birthday girls (or yourself) with some fantastic new jewelry. If you are looking for some ideas, opal is always a gorgeous choice and also happens to be the birthstone for October.

Opal’s shifting play of kaleidoscopic colors is unlike any other gem. Because of this, the Romans thought it was the most precious and powerful stone of all. In fact, the name opal is thought to be derived from the Sanskrit upala, meaning “precious stone,” and later the Greek derivative “Opallios,” meaning “to see a change of color.”

Although experts divide gem opals into many different categories, there are five main types: white or light opal, black opal, fire opal, boulder opal and crystal or water opal.

Opals have a very long history and there are many myths pertaining to the stone. Do you have a favorite blondie in your life? In medieval times, all blond maidens wanted a necklace made of opals, as this was considered an absolute guarantee to prevent their hair from fading or darkening.

Every maiden will be guaranteed a great hair day with these little lovelies on her ears. This mesmerizing pair is made with 14karat yellow gold featuring opals surrounded by over 0.60cts of diamonds.

Opal has always been associated with love and passion, as well as desire. Not a bad way to celebrate an October birthday, right?! It is a seductive stone that intensifies emotional states and releases inhibitions. Wearing an opal is said to bring about loyalty and faithfulness.

She will definitely feel the birthday love with this gorgeous necklace. This beautiful piece is made with 14karat yellow gold, with glimmering sapphires and 1.48cts of diamonds surrounding a spectacular opal stone. It is the perfect way to say both “I Love You” and “Happy Birthday.”

Whether you choose to celebrate October as the start of fall, the birthday for someone special, or both, you cannot go wrong with opal jewelry. Its rainbow of color make it the perfect accessory to compliment any outfit or coordinating jewelry.

Springtime Florals for Spring Weddings

Half a dozen (or so) nor’easters later, spring has finally sprung! With so much warmer weather fun to look forward to, we cannot wait to kick it all off with spring weddings. Spring is a time of transformation with the promise of rebirth and renewal, love and hope abundant in the warm, sweet air.  After the dark and gloomy winter months, springtime welcomes color back into our lives with the beautiful greens of new leaves appearing on trees, the soft pastels of blooming flowers, and bright yellows of warm spring days. Whether you are attending a spring wedding as a guest, an attendant…or the guest of honor, it is a great season full of endless options to compliment your ceremony and reception looks.

Nothing says spring more than flowers, and weddings are known for their gorgeous arrangements from the bouquets and boutonnieres to the table settings. But how about some floral jewelry??

Tulips are a well-known spring flower favorite, making this gorgeous diamond and pink sapphire necklace the ideal accessory for that upcoming garden wedding you’ve been looking forward to.

Another diamond and sapphire floral necklace option is this stunning piece by Gregg Ruth. This beauty will fit right in at the upcoming black tie wedding you RSVP’ed to. It will dazzle on the dance floor with 18 karats of white gold, 0.34cts of diamonds and 2.43cts of rich blue sapphires.

If you love the ideal of floral-inspired jewelry, but would rather finish off your spring wedding look with a pair of beautiful earrings, here are four very different – but equally lovely – options.

Do you have an upcoming wedding where you must dress to impress? Perhaps as the mother of the bride or groom? These diamond drop floral earrings are nothing short of spectacular. You will never think of floral details the same way again once these beauties are hanging from your ears.

Made with 18karat white gold, the pair features 7.28cts of sparkling diamonds for an exquisitely stunning look. Our designers and gemologists at George Press created this piece exclusively for us – for you.

These enchanting pink sapphire and freshwater pearl earrings would be perfect for an afternoon wedding. Made with 14 karat yellow gold, the pair features 0.70cts of pink sapphires framed by freshwater pearls.

Another classic option for an afternoon affair are these mother of pearl and jade Tiffany earrings (does anything spell classy more than vintage Tiffany’s?) with stone inlayed 18karat yellow gold.

For a little more color and sparkle, you may want to try these beryl and diamond flower earrings on for size. These little numbers pack a big punch with 3.75cts of pear shaped yellow beryls and 0.24cts of round diamonds.

Another sweet floral option, that definitely does not lack in sparkle are these adorable earrings. Simple and sophisticated, they are made with 18karat yellow gold with 0.90cts of round diamonds.

As we leave March behind us – she definitely came in like a lion and out like a lamb this year – and look towards April and the spring we cannot wait to put our snow boots away, thaw out, and welcome in this warmer weather. There is so much to look forward to as we embrace the new season. And if the sight of new buds on trees or flowers poking up from the ground doesn’t make you smile, we know that the spring weddings you have this year – with some great new floral jewelry – definitely will.

Always remember, as Robin Williams once said: “Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s Party!’” so make sure you do…with some superb George Press jewelry on of course.

Beautiful Jewels and a Rainbow of Colors at the 2018 Oscars

The most coveted event of the 2018 awards season has finally arrived: The Oscars! This red carpet is like the grand ball for stars in their designer gowns. We could not wait to see what our favorite stars were going to come up with, from the fancy shoes to of course the glittering jewels.

After the sea of black gowns at this year’s Golden Globes, we weren’t sure what to expect. Thankfully, the Oscar’s red carpet treated us to gowns in all colors of the rainbow, and the glittering gems were like the magical pots of gold at the end. Every single look was worthy of a second glance – or more depending on the details.

Gal Gadot, the star of Wonder Woman, looked absolutely wonderful with this 27-carat aquamarine drop necklace with over 1,000 diamonds(!). It definitely made quite the statement and was hard to miss!

Perhaps you have a top with a lot of beadwork in your closet that you love, but never know what to wear with it. Well, these Marco Bicego Siviglia sapphire earrings are just the finishing touch you are looking for. These spectacular little numbers are hand engraved with 18 karat gold featuring vibrant pink sapphires, for just the right pop of color.

Helen Miren definitely got the memo about bringing some color to the red carpet, and she glammed it up even more with a breathtaking blue sapphire necklace and coordinating earrings. The simple and flattering lines of her gown really showcased these pieces in all of their glimmering glory.

We all have a simple dress – or two – in our closet. Well, why not be like Helen and step it up a bit? You will never look at that dress the same way once you pair it with these Gregg Ruth diamond and sapphire chandelier earrings. The sparkle of the 0.74cts of diamonds can transform it in the blink of an eye… but why stop there? Helen didn’t.

Make her (and her stylist) proud by also wearing this antique diamond and sapphire necklace. You will absolutely fall in love with this exquisite piece, and with 11.63cts of round diamonds and 4.50cts of sapphire, who could blame you? Your reinvigorated dress definitely won’t!

Another well-known star of the silver screen, who kept her look clean and classic was Jane Fonda. Her perfectly styled hair and simple neckline gave her drop earrings just enough room to shine. They weren’t overpowering, but you couldn’t help but notice them all at the same time. It was the perfect balance.

These George Press one of a kind drop diamond earrings can give you that same effect. These stunners will captivate anyone and everyone with 4.81cts of fine white, champagne and cognac diamonds.

If perhaps you want something with a touch more drama, these George Press decorative diamond drop earrings may be just right. Another one-of-a-kind piece, these earrings pump up the sparkle with 5.84cts of fine white, cognac and champagne round diamonds.

As awards season winds down, and we (finally!) head towards spring and warmer weather, each of these red carpet looks gave us a taste of fun and playfulness. Whether the stars brought the rainbow to the Oscars red carpet with their couture, their jewelry, or both, it was as night filled with beautiful and impactful statements – from the outfits to the acceptance speeches.

Must-Have Jewelry Trends that Revive your Favorite Looks

As we (finally!) start to move towards spring trends and embrace a new season, it is time to give our accessories a little spring cleaning and revive some classic looks to make them more distinct and personal. These range from pendant necklaces to layer, gold hoops of all sizes and statement rings that cannot be missed.

Eye-catching pendants are always an unexpected way to add some flair to an outfit, and you can get way more mileage out of your jewelry collection if you know how to layer your pieces. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, or worry about spacing your necklaces out evenly. In fact, some necklaces with pendants will help your chains stay untangled.

To break up a solid colored top, wear necklaces in the same metal. Two beautiful options would be these sapphire and diamond necklaces by Gregg Ruth.

The top pendant is made with 18 karat while gold featuring 0.23cts of diamonds and 1.54cts of sapphires. The equally gorgeous one below is also made in 18 karat white gold with 0.34cts of diamonds and 2.43cts of rich blue sapphires. By pairing these two stunners together, imagine the extra sparkle it would bring to your favorite understated top!

1 2If you plan on wearing a brighter blouse, go for a pendant that is a little more subtle in color – but is still attention grabbing. Gregg Ruth has some amazing options to choose from. This incredible spiral diamond pendant features 1.96cts of dazzling diamonds and would catch anyone (and everyone’s) eye.

Another possibility with a similar refined look, but in a different shape (and definitely not lacking in sparkle!), is this diamond pendant from the Gregg Ruth Asher Collection. This incredible necklace features 0.73cts of diamonds.

Also, don’t be afraid to mix masculine with more feminine pieces. A chunky chain can make your more delicate accessories pop even more. And what could be more delicate than some adorable baby footprints? Or maybe a pawprint?

6 Both necklaces, designed by Monica Rich Kosann, come on a 30” diamond-cut chain and feature white sapphires.

How many gold hoops do you think you have packed away in your jewelry box? One….two…ten?!  No matter how many or few you may have, this is the season to bring them out of hiding and make a statement. If you are looking to add some new ones to your collection, Alor has some great choices to fit any style or budget.

This classic pair is made with 18 karat yellow gold and puts a small twist on the classic gold hoop.

Or for a look that is a little bolder, this pair of hoops features 0.10cts of diamonds.

If you are loving the layered look, you don’t have to stop at your necklaces. By wearing these little numbers you will immediately add a whole new level to your style with one pair of earrings – and some subtle sparkle as well with 0.16cts of diamonds.

A few weeks ago we looked into the history, legends and lore of cocktail rings. Well, this season it is time to up the ante a little more with statement rings meant to stack. Go ahead and throw a hand party and invite all of your favorite rings of different shapes and sizes. Just be sure to keep the rest of your look simple so your hands can really steal the spotlight (and don’t forget about that manicure!). If your ring guest list is looking a little lean, we have some great choices to bring some new life to the party.

This Masai yellow and white gold five strand ring has a stackable look all its own. It is made with five strands of interwoven 18 karat white and yellow gold and gives you the look of multiple rings all in one!

10 If you are yearning for something a little “extra,” this beauty by Marco Bicego could be just what you had in mind. This unique Goa ring is made with seven rows of 18 karat yellow gold, and 0.41cts of diamonds.

If you want something a little more unexpected and with a little more edge, this white gold ring by Alor strikes the perfect balance. A part of the Classique collection, this stainless steel fashion ring is made with 18 karate white gold cable, featuring 0.08cts of round diamonds.

Everyone has their favorite go-to pieces, despite how many you may have in your drawer or jewelry box. While always reaching for your tried and true pieces makes things easier, hopefully these tips on reviving those classic looks – with maybe some new pieces thrown in – will give all your must have jewelry a fresher look.

February’s Birthstone Amethyst is a Royal Favorite

If the month of February has you wishing for warmer days, this month’s birthstone which is often associated with qualities of peace, courage and stability, is just the right gem for those needing a little extra warmth and strength this time of year. February’s Birthstone amethyst beauty will help make this month fly by in no time!

Amethyst is purple quartz, made from a beautiful blend of violet and red. Once considered more valuable than diamonds, amethyst can be found in every corner of the earth. The ancient Greeks believed that this gemstone held many powers, among them protection against intoxication.  In fact, the word Amethyst comes from the Greek word “amethystos,” meaning sober.

For many years, amethyst was held to be one of the most precious gemstones often favored by royalty who wore this intense violet hue. Amethyst has been found in ruins dating as far back as the ninth century, adorning crowns, scepters, jewelry, and breastplates worn into battle. Even today, a large amethyst is among the closely guarded gemstones in the British Crown Jewels.

It may not be a crown, but these spectacular earrings by Shoshana will definitely make you feel like royalty. Bold and elegant, these cannot-be-missed 14 karat yellow gold earrings feature vibrant rubies, pink sapphires, diamonds and of course amethysts.

Another famous royal who favored amethyst was Cleopatra. In fact, it is said that the signet ring she wore was an amethyst. You can feel like a Greek goddess as well with a stunning amethyst ring of your very own.

On the day you step out with this stunner on your finger, heads will definitely turn in your direction. Made by Bulgari, this ring is made with 8 karat yellow gold with a beautiful amethyst stone in a unique setting.

Another breathtaking option is this ring by Doves. Beautiful amethyst is coupled with pink mother of pearl creating an original and alluring shade of purple, surrounded by 0.34cts of diamonds.

Do you feel like a modern day Cleopatra yet?

If you are still on the hunt for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift, amethyst can be an unexpected yet very appropriate choice. Amethyst is said to be the stone of Saint Valentine, who wore an amethyst engraved with the figure of his assistant, Cupid.

Your favorite valentine will look at you with love in her eyes when she sees these Murano multi-stone earrings by Marco Bicego. Each pair is hand engraved with 18 karat yellow gold to beautifully showcase rhodolite garnet and amethyst gems.

And did we mention there is a matching ring as well?

And speaking of the power of love, if you are celebrating an anniversary this month amethyst is an ideal gem to choose. It is believed that the gift of amethyst strengthens the bond in a love relationship.

Nothing will say “I love you” while giving your anniversary some extra sparkle more elegantly than this multi-stone and diamond bracelet by Shoshana. You can make it an anniversary to remember with this 18 karat while gold bracelet made with pink amethyst, green amethyst, citrine and blue topaz, framed by 1.17cts of round diamonds.

The legends and lore associated with this month’s birthstone are as deep as the color itself. However, whether or not amethyst holds such power, it’s stunning beauty will certainly make anyone celebrating something special this month – or anyone who just loves beautiful jewelry – feel like royalty!

Love Is All Around!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Are you looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?
We’ve got some ideas, just for you!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. It is a time when you can feel the love that is all around. The air smells sweeter that day (probably thanks to all the flowers, chocolate and candy!), and most people’s eyes sparkle a little bit brighter. In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the UK, France and Australia. According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday!

Do you know what would go great with one of those sentimental cards this year? A piece of new jewelry, of course! To keep your love close to her heart, we have several beautiful necklaces from our Shoshana line to choose from.

Either of these Shoshana Open Heart diamond and sapphires necklaces will make her fall in love with you all over again. They come in two styles, with one in 18 karat yellow gold, featuring diamonds and sapphires, or one made with 18 karat rose gold set with 0.62cts of rubies, 0.59cts of pink sapphires and 0.28cts of diamonds. Your love for her will shine through with either option. You cannot go wrong.

For something with a little more sparkle, the Shoshana rose gold and diamond heart pendant will capture her love – and take her breath away. This dazzler is made with 18 karat white and rose gold, set with 0.78cts of fine white and fancy pink round diamonds.

If she would like something a little more playful, you can pull right on her heart strings with a Shoshana Hearts within Heart pendant. This delightful design comes in 18 karat white gold with a colorful array of 1.18cts of pink, yellow and blue round sapphires.

For your more understated Valentine, this sterling silver locket by Monica Rich Kosann could be a great option. Imagine the smile that will spread across her face every time she looks down and sees a special photo beautifully displayed in this necklace, right next to her heart.

The chocolates you plan to give her will taste even sweeter as she admires this elegant sapphire and diamond bypass ring by Shoshana – she won’t even mind if she picks her least favorite filling! The two heart shaped sapphires, set with 0.61cts of diamonds will make her heart (and taste buds) do a happy dance.

All of those sweet nothings you plan on whispering into her ear over the candlelight dinner you have planned will sound extra poetic when these ruby and diamond earrings frame her beautiful face. Featuring heart shaped rubies, these little numbers are made with 18 karat yellow gold, framed by 0.92cts of baguette diamonds.

What about the littlest Valentines in your life? We have some sweet ideas for them, too.

Imagine their face light up when they first see this custom George Press signature heart necklace that you picked out just for them. Made with 14 karat white gold, and set with 0.14cts of diamonds, you will make your little darling feel like the most special girl in the world (and bonus points if you get Mommy a grown-up heart shaped necklace too).

Another adorable and classic choice is an ID bracelet. Each bracelet is made with 14 karat yellow gold with a pink enamel heart, and can be engraved with a message of your choice as unique as your little Valentine. Every time she looks down at it, whether at school or during one of her activities, she will think of you and always remember how much she is loved.

We wish you and your loved ones non-stop love this Valentine’s Day. We hope it is a day filled with smiles and chocolate. No matter how you plan on celebrating, as the wise Katherine Hepburn once said remember that “love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Splashes of Color and Sparkle at the Golden Globes

Welcome to Awards Season! This past Sunday kicked it off with the 75th Golden Globes, and although this red carpet has historically been one worth looking forward to with incredible fashion being the norm, the 2018 ceremony was highly anticipated in a different way.

Most of Hollywood’s stars came together to support the black dress initiative to protest against sexual harassment, and skipped out on all the glamour and risky designs for looks more muted in tone. And while every single dress on this year’s Golden Globes red carpet will go down in history, we are happy to report that there were some amazing jewelry moments that could rival the dresses.

Alison Brie and Viola Davis showed off their low-cut sweetheart necklines with incredible diamond necklaces that did not lack in sparkle. You can do the same with this stunning and delicate antique necklace featuring 9.5cts of diamonds. In fact, with this around your neck no one will even think to notice the rest of your outfit!

Sweetheart necklines weren’t the only ones getting some extra sparkle on the red carpet. Both Kate Hudson and Issa Rae played up their plunging necklines with some dramatic choices.

To channel your inner Kate Hudson this one of a kind diamond necklace by George Press will give you just the right amount of sparkle. Made with 2.83cts of diamonds, you will feel like red carpet royalty as soon as this show-stopper is around your neck.

For some shine with a splash of eye-catching color similar to Issa Rae’s look, Doves has you covered with a white topaz and amazonite necklace. This 18 karat beauty features an oval shaped white topaz over amazonite with round tsavorite garnets outlining the left and right sides of the oval, and wrapped with round diamonds. It is a highly detailed piece that you cannot help but fall in love with.

Speaking of eye-catching color, did you see the incredible emerald earrings Zoe Kravitz wore? They were definitely hard to miss and made many fashionistas stand up and take notice.

(Image by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP and from E Online)

These agate and diamond earrings by Doves will give your outfit the same kind of oomph by adding some unexpected color. The pair feature 18 karate white gold green agate illuminated by 0.50cts of black and white diamonds.

In a sea of muted tones, Mandy Moore also chose to add some color to her look with some fiery jewelry that coordinated perfectly with her dress.

(Image by Getty/Frazer Harrison and from PopSugar)

With a variety of options in our exclusive Shoshana line, you can do the same. For a softer, yet similar look to Mandy Moore’s, you can pair these tourmaline and aqua earrings with this multi stone and diamond bracelet. The exquisite bracelet is made with pink amethyst, green amethyst, citrine and blue topaz, framed by 1.17cts of round diamonds.

Or if you want to take the look up a notch, you can wear these bold and elegant earrings. A statement all in itself, these stunners are made with 18 karat yellow gold with vibrant rubies, pink sapphires, amethysts and diamonds.

Attention all of you hazel-eyed gals out there! You will have a totally new found appreciation for your eye color after you see the piece that Greta Gerwig, one of the big winners of the night, opted to accessorize her one-shoulder gown with. Check out how gorgeous her eyes look. The bright lights of the red carpet transformed her metallic necklace into something magical.

(Image by Getty/Frazer Harrison and from PopSugar)

Marco Bicego can make your hazel eyes look magical as well with a necklace from their Lunaria collection. This one is made with 18 karat yellow gold, and can play off the light in any room just right.

With a very different set of expectations going into this year’s Golden Globes, there is no disputing that the most talked about fashion trend will be the dominance of black dresses. However, in this sea of black there was no denying the incredible jewelry that still sparkled during the red carpet and acceptance speeches. These add-ons made even the most classic black dress a bold look to remember.

A New Year, A New You, A New Engagement

The start of a new year is always a magical time. Once the clock strikes midnight on December 31st and a new year is ushered in, the air is buzzing with new hopes, dreams and exciting aspirations (thanks to that extra cocktail or two…). For the love birds out there, it can also mean the start of a new chapter: an engagement!

According to Brides Magazine, “engagement season” tends to run from November through February. If you are waiting for the moment to say “YES!” – or are busy planning the perfect way to ask – if 2018 is your engagement year, now’s the time to check out the up and coming trends.

Oval shaped diamonds are becoming a popular alternative to both round and emerald shapes. The elongated shape lends itself to a vintage vibe and can vary from stone to stone to give you a ring truly all your own.

Some options would be an oval center stone surrounded by either pear shaped or round diamonds for some extra sparkle.

While the oval cut is a trend on the more classic side, pear-cut rings are totally modern and fashion-forward for 2018. This option is perfect for the trendsetting bride who wants a standout ring to match her everyday style.

An exciting and unexpected choice could be this diamond engagement helix ring by Steven Kretchmer. This style is unique for a pear shaped stone to maximize its brilliance.

As brides continue to embrace brighter hues for their wedding colors, the same is true for engagements rings too. With so many colored gemstones to choose from, the sky is the limit!

This ruby and diamond ballerina ring will make your fiancé spin with love and delight. Featuring a 2.62ct round Burmese Ruby, this stunner is framed by 3.10cts of baguette diamonds.

If your love runs as deep as the ocean, how about this Shoshana sapphire and diamond bypass ring. This unique setting is made with 18 karat white gold featuring two (how perfect for an engagement ring?) heart shaped sapphires set with 0.61cts of diamonds.

Instead of a single stone, more brides are opting for blinged-out bands. They offer just as much sparkle as a big center stone, but are more suitable for those who aren’t comfortable with the height of a solitaire.

You’ll be basking in layers of love with this set of three diamond eternity bands. The set features one platinum eternity band set with 3.94cts of round brilliant diamonds surrounded by two 18 karat yellow bands each set with 3.06cts of both fine white and champagne round diamonds, all designed by George Press.

Whether you select a ring that is “on-trend” or decide to create an original piece, for over 35 years George Press has helped thousands of couples say “Will you marry me?” We understand the importance of finding that one-of-a-kind piece for a day you will remember forever. An exceptional moment deserves an exceptional ring.

Come in and visit George Press today for all of your engagement and wedding band needs. We can help you find that special piece for that special someone. And let us be the first to wish you a happy engagement in the New Year!

Heirlooms: Pieces of Jewelry that Stand the Test of Time

What makes a pieces of jewelry heirlooms? Value, quality and beauty are all important factors to be considered. However, for most, it is the stories behind the pieces. Sometimes they are stories of love, dreams, accomplishments, and perhaps even loss. If you already have a family heirloom, there is no doubt that you treasure it. The piece is most likely associated with fond memories of the person who owned it before you, and you have probably already thought about who in your family you will one day pass it on to.

1(Image source)

An example of a famous heirloom is the engagement ring that Prince William used to propose to Kate Middleton. The diamond and sapphire ring was previously worn by William’s late mother, Princess Diana in 1981.

If you don’t have a family heirloom, there is no reason that you cannot create one. Jewelry makes the perfect choice and if chosen wisely, a quality piece of jewelry can be worn, enjoyed and cherished forever. One tip is to select a piece that is more timeless vs trendy so it can be worn across generations. Some good choices include diamonds, gold or platinum rings, pearls or charms.

If you are inspired by royal style, one option is this Gregg Ruth diamond and sapphire antique cluster ring. Made with 18 karat white gold, this sparkler features 0.28cts of diamonds and 0.79cts of sapphire.

There is something very classic and timeless about pearls. Imagine your daughter or granddaughter – and then her daughter or granddaughter – getting her diploma or walking down the aisle in these incredible mother of pearl earrings by Doves. Surrounded by 0.21cts of diamonds with 18 karats of yellow gold, these simple treasures can forever be a part of countless memories.

A necklace is also a stunning choice for an heirloom. This one by Doves is made with 18 karat white gold featuring a deep rich green agate and almost 0.50cts of sparkling diamonds. An eye-catching piece like this would definitely spark some conversation, to be the part of great stories to tell over and over again.

Another option is to create a custom piece, or even use jewelry that you already own to create multiple heirlooms for your family. Many of our customers prefer to custom design their jewelry, therefore truly creating one-of-a-kind pieces. We love bringing your visions to life.

You can create an entirely new piece, or restyle an heirloom that has become out-of-date. Regardless of what you choose to do, our jewelers will make the process an enjoyable experience you will never forget. All of our custom work is done right in our Livingston store.

The process of creating your custom piece of jewelry is as exciting as the beautiful finished product. We work closely with you to put your ideas and inspiration to paper or computer, then our skilled jewelers can either hand carve a wax model or create a computerized model with CAD technology. Following your approval, one of our highly trained goldsmiths will cast the piece and spend many days hand setting the gems and perfecting the finish.

Every step is more exciting than the last, and each piece is a labor of love. The time and care given to our custom process is reflected in every finished piece for several generations to enjoy.

An heirloom is a classic and beautiful way to create long lasting traditions, or honor the memories of generations past. We look forward to helping you create pieces unique to your family, or to select something new. Regardless of which decision you make, either will serve as a wonderful way to link the past to both the present and the future.

Water resistant up to 100 feet, this timepiece is finished with 0.61 carats of diamonds and 0.07 carats of pink sapphires.

And speaking of bright ideas, colored gems are always a good gift choice. Whether it’s a birthstone or simply a signature hue, colored jewelry always makes a statement, firing up any wardrobe. According to Forbes, vibrant colored jewels have also been rock stars at auction lately, meaning today’s glittering gift could be tomorrow’s brilliant investment.

A few possibilities to consider are the Doves pieces from their London Blue collection. The bracelet is an 18K gold white gold bangle with a triangle of diamonds facing the topaz, while the earrings feature topazes surrounded by white diamonds. Whether you’re looking for a bracelet or earrings, these pieces feature a topaz stone that’s as “blue as the Union Jack” and is sure to delight the lucky recipient.

Jewelry Fit for Emmy Award Winners!

Old fashioned glamour was in the air at the 2017 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 17th.  The prestigious awards drew crowds of celebrities and star watchers at its 69th annual show.  While sparing an occasional glance at the gorgeous ensembles, as usual, our eyes were fixed firmly on the jewelry, looking to spot new fashion trends and old faithfuls that are still going strong.

There was no denying that dangling diamond earrings remain a mainstay of the luxe fashion league.  It was hard to spot a celebrity that wasn’t wearing them in one form or another.  Nicole Kidman, Priyanka Chopra, Zoe Kravitz, Jessica Biel, Allison Janney, Elisabeth Moss, Thandie Newton, and Evan Rachel Wood all had diamonds on their ears, most of them long and dangly.

Best Actress Material

These George Press custom-made Diamond Drop Floral Earrings would be right at home in such a sparkle show.  With 7.28cts of shimmering diamonds set in 18 karat white gold, you would be one-of-a-kind to say the least. The intricate design, mix of styles and sheer magnitude of these diamond beauties would have your critics rolling in the aisles looking for superlatives capable of describing how truly magnificent you are.  That Best Actress award is all yours, for sure.

There’s No Denying

Try as you might there’s no denying that cuffs are still going strong. This year’s Emmys brought out the glam side of cuffs, as actresses like Nicole Kidman, Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Viola Davis and Julie Bowen wore their best and brightest. Again, diamonds were in the majority, but Julie Bowen of the hit television series, Modern Family, elected to wear a multi-rowed pearl cuff. We think the perfect combination is reflected in this Antique Pearl and Diamond Bracelet featuring 5.39cts of diamonds. Seriously, nominees, your bracelet is here! If only Julie Bowen had known.

Over the Rainbow

We’ve been inching towards it little by little, but after this year’s Emmys it’s safe to say that colored stones are HUGE!  Emeralds, rubies, sapphires, you name it.  Color was out in force.  From Jane Fonda who threw her emerald and diamond encrusted necklace on backwards, to Emmy Rossum, whose emeralds were large, glowing and just amazing.  Pink, purple and red stones were also popular, (Debra Messing, Carrie Coon and Ellie Kemper), and even turquoise had its moments.

We love diamonds, don’t get us wrong, but there is something so Hollywood Regency dreamy about colored stones that they just make us swoon.  We don’t even have a favorite, we love them all. Take, for example, these stunning Diamond and Sapphire Chandelier Earrings from Gregg Ruth. In 18 karat white gold with blue sapphires and diamonds, you are transported to the elegance of classic Turner movies.  You’re Ginger Rogers swirling around the dance floor with Fred Astaire, or Elizabeth Taylor, or whatever fantasy is your guilty pleasure.  Life is too short not to fill it with color! And diamonds too!

Gregg Ruth Diamond and Sapphire Chandelier Earrings are similar to those at the 2017 Grammy AwardsBeautiful jewelry, all of it! These winning trends are written in the stars. What roles are you hoping to play? Read the scripts, pick out a great agent and get the right accessories, then get ready to claim your awards!

Emeralds – May’s Spring Green Birthstone

Spring is here and all around us vivid colors are replacing the browns and greys of winter. It’s safe to say that the most predominant color is bright, bold green. So, what better birthstone for this time than the magnificent, precious emerald!

emerald birthstone

Emerald is a variety of the mineral Beryl. It presents in all different shades of green with the deeper shades being more valuable. If the color is too light, it may be classified as a green beryl. The green color is caused by trace amounts of chromium or vanadium.

Clarity is the second most important feature of emeralds, with a high degree of transparency being more desirable, because emeralds tend to have inclusions and fissures. These imperfections are sometimes referred to as “Jardin,” “garden” in French because they resemble garden moss. Emerald is one of four precious gemstones, the others being diamonds, sapphires and rubies.

Columbia is the largest producer of emeralds, and a rare type of emerald with dark spokes caused by inclusions, called “trapiche,” is also found there. The second largest producer is Zambia. Lesser quantities of emeralds have also been found in many other countries, including the United States, where they have been discovered in Connecticut, the Carolinas, Nevada and Montana.

Emeralds were mined in ancient Egypt, and Cleopatra was a particular fan of the gemstone, laying claim to all the emerald mines in her country. Spanish conquistadors also coveted the stones, bringing many back from South America.  Emeralds are said to be a symbol of new beginnings, loyalty and peace. The ancient Romans dedicated emeralds to Venus, known as the goddess of love and beauty.

Elizabeth Taylor had a famous set of emeralds and diamonds, a gift from her husband, Richard Burton, which has been valued at about 100 million dollars. Angelina Jolie favors them also, and has 115-carat double drop emerald earrings and a 65-carat emerald ring.

Various royals also have famous emerald pieces, including a German emerald and diamond tiara, an Indian necklace, and a Belgian necklace.  Several pieces in the British Crown Jewels also are emerald-centered, including the Grand Duchess Vladimir Emerald Tiara, named for the aunt of Tsar Nicolas II and subsequently acquired by Queen Mary in 1921. Queen Mary was also given the Delhi Durbar Emerald Necklace, a gift from the Maharaja of Patiala, India.

Obviously, emeralds were, and are, prized by many important people throughout history. Their brilliant green color is captivating. Spring is also lovely, with its bright green grass and leaves. But you can’t wear lawn clippings! So, bring a bit of emerald green into your life that you can wear all year round, and have a little piece of spring to calm your soul.

Moonlight Shines Over La La Land – Oscars Jewelry Lights Up the Night

Celebrities are not known for their subtlety, generally speaking, and this year’s Oscars were no exception.  Ruth Negga showed up with a ruby “crown” and earrings to complement her red Valentino gown. Charlize Theron wore diamond Chopard doorknockers on her ears, (they would have crushed a lesser woman.) Even Jennifer Aniston amped it up with 100ct emerald cut graduated diamond earrings worth $9.5 million.

Alas, most of us were not invited to the Oscars this year.  We, unfortunately, had a previous engagement and could not attend. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t occasionally have “Oscars” in our own lives. Maybe it’s an important gallery opening or corporate event.  Or maybe it’s a special wedding, your own – or someone you love very much.  There are always excuses to glam things up a bit and we are here to help!

Bling Around the Collar

As we’ve been saying, colored stones are making a strong comeback and so are collar length diamond necklaces.  This Antique Diamond and Sapphire Necklace combines the best of both worlds, in a charming vintage setting that is also the height of fashion. You can’t beat 11.63cts of round diamonds and 4.50cts of beautiful blue sapphires set in platinum for star power!

Or, for the diamond purist, how about this Asher Fancy Link Diamond Necklace from Gregg Ruth? This 18 karat white gold necklace features 6.60cts of sparkling diamonds for your wearing pleasure.  Stunning, just stunning!

Bangles and Cuffs

Bangles and cuffs continued to rock the red carpet too. Priyanka Chopka wore elegant platinum and diamond cuffs on each wrist and the effect was sensational with her sleeveless, geometric dress. Halle Berry stacked diamond bangles with her own sleeveless, body-hugging gown.  The nicest thing about this look is that it can be worn with so many different types of outfits.  Stack diamond bangles with your jeans and a favorite shirt, wear them to the office or on an evening out.  You never have to take them off!  We have so many different diamond bangles to choose from.  You can create your own unique combinations.

A Flex Forte Bezel Diamond Dust Bangle makes a great starter in 18K white gold with round diamonds.

Add another, like this Lady’s Alor Stainless Bracelet …

Or this Doves 18K White Gold Diamond Bangle. Or both!

If you want a more cuff-like look, try this George Press Three Row Overlapping Diamond Bangle in 18K white gold with 2.21cts of shimmering diamonds.  Imagine how gorgeous it would look to put one on each wrist! Mind…Blown!

This George Press Three Row Overlapping Diamond Bangle is a custom piece from George Press Jewelers that looks like jewelry from the Oscars

Of course, there were plenty of spectacular earrings at the Oscars too, long danglers and ear climbers and all of the trends we have been discussing here in our blog.  We hope you’ve had the opportunity to wear some of these looks. Remember, you are the star of your own life.  Whether it’s a rom-com, a drama or an adventure movie, live it to the fullest and celebrate each and every day!

Making a Statement, Without Saying a Word

The President has a Press Secretary, celebrities have agents, but unless you’re famous, you probably have to speak for yourself.  You can make a statement in many different ways.  The way you dress, eat, drive, work and speak all make statements about the type of person you are, so does your jewelry. That’s why the term “statement piece” is used to refer to pieces of jewelry that go above and beyond the usual.  Statement pieces can be glamorous or they can be funky and unique, but they always say something about the wearer.

Glamorous statement pieces are a topic of conversation at events like awards ceremonies, the Met Gala and wherever the elite flock and gather. It’s easy to see why.  There is something fascinating about the ultimate luxury of these pieces.  The sheer carat count of precious gems and the fanciful settings captivate us.  The jewelry sets the wearer apart from the hoi polloi, almost as if to say, “Look what I get to wear….” Showoffs!  Don’t fall for that nonsense.  Glamorous statement pieces can be yours and we at George Press are here to prove it.

Glamour Girl

Right now we have in our estate collection this Antique Diamond and Sapphire Necklace with beautiful Victorian styling. 11.63cts of round diamonds and 4.50cts of gorgeous sapphire are set in a stunning display of platinum artistry.  Designed to truly flatter the neckline, this necklace certainly makes a statement.  We can hear it saying “She has such amazing taste, such appreciation for beauty. Doesn’t this necklace look divine on her? She’s gorgeous!”

For the Bold at Heart

This Diamond and Ruby Bracelet has also been quite chatty lately. It’s saying “Put me on your wrist and let me show the world what confident, classic beauty looks like.  Rubies aren’t shy and neither am I!”  This bracelet needs to be on a bold, bright woman who doesn’t mind when her bracelet sends brilliant flashes of ruby light across the room.  One who isn’t intimidated by ardent admirers.  A woman who can hold her own in any situation.  Are you that woman?

Quirk Factor

Of course glamour isn’t the only way to go when it comes to statement jewelry. Maybe you pride yourself on being different? From unusual to downright quirky, there is a whole host of statement pieces that can demonstrate what eclectic, nontraditional, yet aesthetically appealing taste you have!

For example, we just love these Amethyst Earrings from Doves.  The color is confectionary and results from pairing amethyst with pink mother of pearl.  The unusually shaped settings are outlined in diamonds for a chic, elegant, yet highly individualistic look that speaks volumes.  We know what its siren call is saying to us.  What enticing phrases are you hearing?

Sun Child

Maybe you’re a child of the sun and you prefer the gleam of warm, yellow gold?  You’re not alone!  No one knows the appeal of burnished golden light like Marco Bicego.  He has the perfect statement necklace for those who are drawn to gold and warm gems.  Simple, elegant, undeniable!  No one will ignore your Gold and Citrine Graduated Collar Necklace from the Lunaria Collection.  It stands out like a beacon, a lighthouse in the fog.  Ships on lonely seas will be drawn to it like an isle of tropical sunshine. It’s saying, “Come to me, I’m warm and welcoming. Bask in my luminescence, you will never want to leave.”

Lunaria Gold and Cirtine Graduated Collar Necklace

There are all kinds of statements you can make with a great piece of jewelry.  How you wear it, what you wear it with, and even where you wear it can change the message.  Don’t be afraid to get creative and have some fun with it.  Yes, your jewelry can speak volumes for you, but make sure it says what you want it to say!

Your Lifetime Collection – Exploring Estate Jewelry

The Estate Jewelry Collection at George Press Jewelers holds a treasure trove of opportunities.  A chance to find something unique – like rare gemstones, exclusive designer pieces that are no longer being made, examples of superlative craftsmanship and great values. These are the pieces that round out a Lifetime Collection and define its nature.

George Press Jewelers carefully evaluates each and every piece in its estate collection for these factors before deciding whether to present them to its clientele. Jewelry can always be reduced to its essentials, gold, diamonds, gemstones.  There has to be a reason to keep it in its original form.  So when you browse through the estate collection and find yourself drawn to a piece, ask yourself why George Press decided it was worthy of your attention.

Buccellati Pearl and Diamond Necklace

Buccellati Pearl and Diamond Necklace

This necklace is more than pearls and stones, it is a piece of history. George Press knows that the whole is worth a lot more than the sum of its parts, and has elected to present it to you as the beautiful treasure it is. Necklaces like this are continuing to grace the necks of celebrities, just ask Olivia Wilde! That’s because true beauty never goes out of style.

Burmese Ruby and Diamond Ballerina Ring

Burmese Ruby and Diamond Ballerina Ring

Isn’t Ballerina Ring just the perfect name for this delightful concoction?  A “tutu” of 3.10cts of baguette diamonds is enchanting enough, but place a glowing 2.62ct Burmese Ruby in the center and the effect becomes magical.  Per carat, high quality Burmese rubies have been the most expensive gems in the world. Due to trade bans, Burmese rubies are not currently available for import.  George Press is lucky enough to be able to offer this wonderful example in its estate collection. You won’t find this ring at the mall!

Bulgari Cabochon Garnet Ring

Bulgari Cabochon Garnet Ring

The Bulgari story is quite fascinating. Greek jeweler, Sotirios Boulgaris opened his first jewelry store in the mid 1880’s. In 1884, he founded a jewelry business in Rome. His current flagship store still operates in the Via Condotti, opened in 1905 with the help of his two sons Constantino and Giorgio. Constantino Bulgari and his wife, Laura, hid three Jewish women in their Roman home during World War II and in 2003, they were awarded the title of Righteous among the Nations at Yad Veshem in Jerusalem. Later generations of Bulgaris opened locations in Geneva, New York, Monte-Carlo and Paris. The business was subsequently acquired by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA.

This retro Bulgari Ring in 18 karat yellow gold with a cabochon garnet displays many of the characteristics for which Bulgari is known. Rounded forms and generous displays of colored stones in unique formats.  Look how seamlessly the cabochon garnet fits into the rounded sides of the setting. Truly a work of art from a high end design house.

Sapphire and Diamond Knot Earrings

Sapphire and Diamond Knot Earrings

Looking to put a splash of color into your Lifetime Collection? These Sapphire and Diamond Knot Earrings may be just what you’re looking for!

A mix of 18 karat white, yellow and rose gold showcase pink and yellow sapphires and 0.45cts of round diamonds.  Mixed metals is one of the hottest trends going right now, and these beautifully colored stones really lend pizzazz to these timeless knots. Talk about value, these vibrant earrings are just waiting to be scooped up by some eager treasure hunter!

Remember, the George Press Estate Collection has a reputation for carrying high- caliber quality pieces that tell their own stories.  Whether it’s hard-to-find gemstones, a priceless pedigree or exacting craftsmanship, these pieces are desirable in their own right and often fly out of the store in a short time period.  Take the opportunity to add some depth and character to your lifetime collection by investing in one of these timeless treasures.

Just Heavenly, Celestial Inspired Jewelry’s Starring Role

Designers take inspiration from everywhere, nature, technology, art, and lately, designers have been looking to the skies and coming back with stars in their eyes. Celestial inspired jewelry is a growing trend, whether literally or figuratively created.

For the literal minded, we offer two pendants from Monica Rich Kosan.  The first is a telescope.  Adventurers everywhere, delight!  Put your explorer’s heart on display and charm everyone with your desire to discover new worlds. You won’t have to look far to express your taste for new experiences.

Monica Rich Kosan also offers this dream moon pendant for the dreamer in all of us.  Accented with white sapphires, it is a sliver of Luna, herself. You will pull the tides in either direction as you wane and ebb, wane and ebb in your own moonlit glow.  Shed your light on those around you and you’ll be catching dreams in no time at all.

Meanwhile, in a galaxy not far away, Gregg Ruth has created a Spiral Diamond Pendant that will enchant and delight you.  In 18 karat white gold with 1.96cts of sparkling diamonds, it’s effect will mesmerize the onlooker. Following the spiral to its center has a hypnotic effect. Imagine what you can do with such power!  It makes the Milky Way look positively dreary by comparison. Bling Galaxy is where it’s at!

04-32-S386-11Now for a more Monet-like turn to celestial inspiration.  Impressionistic and impressive, this Two Tone Bangle Bracelet from Alor takes flight with two tone stainless steel and 18 karat white gold sprinkled with round diamonds. Is that Orion’s Belt in the middle?  He’s been looking for it everywhere.  Of course, men can never find things.  But if yours finds this gorgeous bracelet for you, you’ll have to take that back now, won’t you?!

Finally, a long day’s journey into glamorous evening ends with this Alor Freshwater Pearl Bracelet. Gleaming white freshwater pearls are strung like moons along a trail of black stainless steel and 18 karat white gold. Your star struck amor will seek you everywhere, as you tease him by leaving a trail of stardust in your wake.  Bad girl! But oh so good girl, too. Two sides to every woman, yin and yang, all bound together in this spiral fantasy.

Everyone wants to leave their earthbound self behind sometimes.  Take to the skies and fly like a bird, like a plane, like…oh never mind, you get it. So twinkle twinkle little starlet and get with the space program. Sprinkle a little stardust in your wardrobe with a piece of heavenly celestial jewelry and reach for the stars.  When you grab one, say hi for us!

September Sapphires — Follow the Rainbow!

When we think of sapphires we almost always think of blue.  That’s not surprising when you consider that blue is the most popular color in the world.  But we are doing ourselves a disservice!

September’s birthstone comes in a range of wonderful colors, including pink, orange, yellow, green, white, purple and lavender.

Sapphires are a gemstone of the mineral corundum, which, when red, is called a  ruby. Although cornflower blue or Kashmir sapphires are highly prized, the rarest form of sapphire is actually the orange-pink Padparadschah, typically found in Sri Lanka. Padparadschah loosely translates to “lotus flower” in Sanskrit.

Sapphires can vary in density, so they are measured by carat weight and by size. Hue, tone and saturation are the three qualities used in evaluating color. These pink George Press Sapphire Bands are a beautiful hue! Shown here encasing a lustrous 6.84 carat Diamond Eternity Band, they are available together or separately from George Press Custom Jewelry.

Many magical functions have been historically attributed to sapphires.   Ancient civilizations believed that sapphires protected against the “evil eye”, envy, poisoning and sore throats.  Yellow sapphires are supposed to help overcome shyness.  These beautiful Shoshana Diamond and Sapphire Daisy Earrings certainly have a magical quality. No one wearing these charming blooms could ever be described as shy!

Sapphires have been popular in engagement rings for centuries.  They are said to symbolize romance, sincerity and fidelity.  Popular with royalty, it is said that deep blue sapphires may have been the source of the color known as “royal blue.”  Napoleon Bonaparte gave Empress Josephine a sapphire and diamond engagement ring.  Princess Catherine, formerly Kate Middleton, currently wears the sapphire engagement ring that Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana.

Today’s celebrities have also followed this example, with Penelope Cruz, Elizabeth Hurley and Jenny McCarthy flaunting sapphireengagement rings. Jenny’s is a 10 carat yellow sapphire!  If you’re more of a traditionalist, this beautiful Gregg Ruth Diamond and Sapphire Antique Cluster Ring recalls Princess Diana’s treasured ring in a most elegant way.

Sapphires are also the traditional gift for 45th anniversaries.  But there’s no reason to wait that long anymore!  This Shoshana 18 karat white gold Hearts within Heart Pendant with  1.18cts of pink, yellow and blue sapphires makes a lovely gift for an anniversary or any other special occasion.
