A Royal Anniversary

It is an anniversary fit for royalty as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip celebrate their 72nd anniversary on November 20th. Royal weddings have been a fan-favorite event for decades. We often get so distracted by tiaras and crowns on the heads of royals that we forget to notice the other jewels they have on, such as their incredible engagement rings. Being part of a royal family means incredible family heirlooms and access to the world’s most premier jewelers, so these engagement rings are to die for. These royal engagement rings have sentimental value, colored stones, simplistic styles, massive carat counts and more.

The Queen has plenty of jewels at her disposal, but there’s one piece of jewelry that she rarely takes off: her three-carat round diamond engagement ring. Though he was born a royal, Philip’s family was not particularly wealthy. When it came time to propose his mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, gave her son a tiara that was originally given to her as a wedding present so he could dismantle it and craft it into a ring.

If you are looking for a royalty-inspired engagement ring for your queen, this classic design by Verragio would be a perfect choice. Made in 18 karat white gold, it features 0.30ct of round brilliant-cut diamonds to enhance a round diamond center. Better start asking your grandmothers for some loose stones off a tiara or two!

When Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton the world could not help but gush over the sapphire and diamond ring that belonged to the late Princess Diana.

You’ll be grinning like a newly engaged princess with your very own diamond and sapphire ring. Created by one of our favorite designers Gregg Ruth, this antique style ring is made with 18karat white gold delicately featuring 0.28cts of diamonds F/G in color VS2 in clarity and 0.79cts of sapphire.

After Prince Andrew proposed to Sarah Ferguson with a ruby, it created a demand for ruby engagement rings across England. It is said that he chose the unique stone to match his future bride’s fiery red hair.

Why not do the same with a favorite red head in your life? This remarkable diamond and ruby eternity band by Christopher Designs will definitely match anyone’s fiery personality – or red hair.

Everyone’s latest royal obsession, Meghan Markle, adores her engagement ring which features a cushion cut diamond, flanked by side diamond’s from Princess Diana’a collection. Prince Harry has said he chose stone’s from his late mother’s collection to “make sure she is with them on this crazy journey.” Awww.

Happiest of anniversaries to our favorite monarch who has shown the world what love can still look like after over seven decades together.

The saying is that “diamonds last forever,” and according to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, true love does too.

Show the Love with some Great Bracelets this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day gifts come in all shapes and sizes – from the extravagant engagement to a home cooked meal or homemade craft. However, the ultimate tried-and-true gift to show your forever love and admiration will always be fine jewelry. No matter how cute that popsicle stick picture frame might be.

Our friends at Forbes magazine just came out with their list of luxury bracelets for Valentine’s Day. We figured we would do you one better and put together a George Press version for a local twist on the Forbes favorites.

Forget about chocolates and candies. This year give her a stunning bracelet that really hits the sweet spot. This bracelet by Marco Bicego is made of mixed gemstones and 18karat yellow gold. All of these colors give you a look that is eye candy encapsulated.

To put a fun spin on the ultimate day of romance, you can opt for bracelets on the less formal side. This Deakin & Francis skull bracelet is definitely not a traditional choice, but just imagine the card inscription possibilities! The phrase “until death do us part” now takes on a whole new meaning once she opens this gift box.

Another unique choice is this can’t-be-missed octopus bracelet. It will add some fun and excitement to any outfit…in eight tentacles flat. It is made with 18karat gold, and will definitely bring a smile to any recipient’s face. However, perhaps do not give it to her over a plate of calamari.

If you have something more big and bold in mind this Valentine’s Day, either of these exquisite bracelets will make it a holiday to remember. You can show her how she sets your heart on fire with this stunning lady’s rose bracelet. Made with 18karat gold, it features 13.28cts of oval rubies and 1.67cts of round brilliant diamonds.

If you would rather play it cool, this incredible bracelet brings a whole new meaning to “cool as ice.” This bracelet perfectly showcases 9cts of oval blue sapphires, 2.10ctw of baguette diamonds and 0.53cts of round brilliant diamonds. With all of that sparkle, your Valentine will have a hard time playing it cool once she feasts her eyes on this work of art.

Why not forgo the traditional flowers and get her a floral inspired bracelet instead? This lady’s white 18karat diamond and blue sapphire bracelet will definitely last a lot longer than any bouquet from your favorite florist.

Another option would be this lovely pearl bangle. It is made with 18karat yellow gold with an open design featuring a round South Sea pearl on one end and a yellow flower with a diamond center on the other. The bangle is simple enough to wear every day, but can easily transition to a nighttime look with complimenting accessories.

You will make her heart soar with either of these delicate butterfly bracelets. There are several symbolic meanings for butterflies across cultures. A perfect one for Valentine’s Day (from Chinese culture) is that two butterflies flying together symbolizes love.

Both of these lovely bracelets are made with 14karat gold and are available with either a mother of pearl or turquoise butterfly.

An unexpected bracelet is a great way to get your beloved’s heart racing this Valentine’s Day. From floral inspired pieces, to more geometric looks, and the tried and true tennis bracelets. At George Press we have some truly exceptional designs. Come in and visit us so we can help you pick out the perfect gift from our store and onto the wrist of your loved ones. Happy Valentine’s Day!

2019 Engagement Ring Trends

It is that time of year once again: the holiday proposals. And we are right smack in the middle of it. Christmas Eve through Valentine’s Day is an incredibly popular time to get engaged. With all of this love in the air it is time to dive right in to the top engagement ring trends for 2019.

Whatever statement you want your brand-new bauble to make, it should definitely say “I love you!” and be a true reflection of your personal style. It may seem overwhelming at first, but we are here to help you find the perfect style that you will love.

Pear shaped diamonds are resurfacing as a popular trend, and for good reason; its faceted cut and feminine curves make it one of the most elegant and flattering shapes for the hand. When paired with delicate diamond halos it can highlight the stone’s shape and intensify its sparkle.

Even within this particular cut there are a variety of styles. One stand-out is this exquisite ring by Steven Kretchmer. The elegant platinum helix style is unique for a pear shaped stone to maximize the brilliance.

A more “traditional” look is this delicate 18karat white gold setting, with a 0.80cts diamond halo.

If you are unsure about using a pear shaped diamond as the center stone, consider placing them on the sides instead. In this sparkler the pear shaped diamonds flank a lovely oval stone for a stunning look. These romantic and round inspired brilliant cut diamonds are close in sparkle and feel to a traditional round diamond. This helps the engagement ring stand out.

engagement rings on trend

Baguette diamonds will be the stone of choice for accents in 2019 engagement rings. Their rectangular shape is what sets them apart from classic diamond cuts, but they still add an element of elegance to the ring.

This amazing ring by Tacori features 0.68cts of baguettes and round diamonds that embellish the princess cut center stone, giving it a uniquely stunning feel.

The Bypass ring is also a style that we will see more of this engagement season. Originally popular in the Victorian era, this style was usually given as an engagement ring because it symbolized two souls coming together as one (aww). Today bypass rings have become popular because they offer a great mix of minimalist and negative spacing that you don’t get with traditional rings.

One of our favorite ring designers Steven Kretchmer, has a few different bypass styles that you can choose from.

Micro pave bands are a great trend that we are loving. Many couples are moving towards having a very thin micro-pave diamond band on their engagement ring and for their wedding band as well. This ultra-thin look highlights the beauty and size of the center stone.

trends for engagement rings

Multi-stone rings are having a real moment. You can use a variety of cuts to create different silhouettes on a standard band. And stacking three – or even five! – stones side by side gives an engagement ring some serious stature.

Check out this five stone ring featuring 1.26cts of emerald cut diamonds, D in color, VS1 in clarity, framed with four trapezoid diamonds in the mounting. Simply breathtaking.

what are the trends for engagement ring

Whether you are seriously shopping, secretly adding rings to your Pinterest board, or dropping hints to your partner, there is never a wrong time to look at engagement rings, and 2019 is already shaping up to be a fun one with dreamy designs that will want you to day “I do.”

We have had the honor and pleasure of being a part of thousands of happy engagements. Please stop in and see us soon. We would love to help you start off 2019 with a happy engagement of your very own.

A 2019 Preview

The New Year is almost upon us and with it brings the renewed sense of excitement and anticipation for what 2019 might bring. We may not be able to predict the future, but we can predict a few new jewelry looks that you will adore.

Our friends at Marco Bicego have been hard at work putting together a brand new collection for you to feast your eyes on. The Africa collection is full of pieces consisting of bold spheres of various shapes and sizes. Each look is bold, yet remarkably light and fluid.

The newest items in this collection were inspired by tribal jewelry and the soft dunes of the Sahara. Available in sapphire, emerald and ruby, each has been hand engraved by Italian artisans using 18 karat gold and carefully selected stones for a touch of color.

No matter what your personal style, or the type of look you are after, you will find the perfect necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings amongst the newest pieces in this collection.

If you still do not have that perfect accessory for your New Year’s Eve ensemble, this gorgeous necklace also by Marco Bicego just might inspire you. Adorned around your neck, the Africa Constellation large pendant necklace is a subtle nod to the famous ball dropping in Times Square…without the crowds or frigid temperatures.

This incredible necklace is inspired by the glistening effect of the Savanna night sky. Made with 18 karat yellow gold, it features hand-engraved boules with multi-sized diamonds, meticulously placed to brilliantly sparkle.

Were you lucky enough to receive all the jewelry on your wish list this year? That is great to hear! What is even better is that we can do any adjustments you might need on these fantastic new pieces. Perhaps you were gifted an incredible new watch or bracelet, but it does not quite fit. We can expertly readjust it so it feels like it was made just for you. If you were surprised with a breathtaking heirloom ring that was the ideal size for your grandmother, but is too loose on you, please come and see us. We will happily resize it so you can start off the New Year with your newest accessories fitted perfectly.

We hope that all of you had an incredible holiday season filled with endless love and laughter, and all of us at George Press wish you nothing but the best for the start of 2019. May it be filled endless hopes and possibilities, and incredible new jewelry!

Cool Looks for Hot Days

As summer temperatures go up, the number of layers you wear goes down, giving you less options to finish off your daily look. But, with the help of some fun new pieces of jewelry you can give your favorite tank tops and sundresses an instant refresh without the major closet overhaul.

Summer is a great time to embrace color, something that one of our favorite designers Belle Etoile is well known for. In fact, some of their collections are obvious nods to these summer months – such as Under the Sea and Sunflower.

The Sea Turtle collection is also quite sweet. You can take your pick between bangles, earrings, or a necklace. With all of the beautiful colors, it will have you thinking of the beach in no time!

summer fashion

Everyone loves beach days in the summertime (or at any time if you are like us!), so why not dress as if you have sand between your toes all summer long?! These new pieces from Honora are the color of the sea and can be mixed and matched to go with a variety of outfits no matter what social event you have to look forward to, from a beach bonfire to a lazy brunch in town and everywhere in between.

The bracelets, earrings, and necklace are all made with sterling silver white pearls, featuring aquamarine stones to complete each look beautifully.

During these humid summer months many ladies find it easier – and cooler – to wear their hair swept up. And what else compliments an updo than a stylish pair of earrings?

These delicate little numbers would look amazing with your summertime tan and chic bun. Made by Marco Bicego, these two strand earrings are made with 18karat yellow gold and jaipur mixed blue topaz stones.

If you are looking to move away from blue tones for something a little hotter, you will definitely love these ruby earrings. Made with 18karat white gold, and featuring round rubies and diamonds, these show stoppers will make sure the thermometer isn’t the only thing around that is hot!

beach season

Ever since summertime equaled time off from school, most of us have always looked forward to these months. The days last longer and the smiles, sunscreen and laughter never seem to end. All our worries seem to lessen – if even just a tiny bit – as we slip into a favorite pair of flip flops. And now, with the help of some of these new “beach inspired” jewelry looks, hopefully that lighter summertime feeling can be enjoyed all year round.

February’s Birthstone Amethyst is a Royal Favorite

If the month of February has you wishing for warmer days, this month’s birthstone which is often associated with qualities of peace, courage and stability, is just the right gem for those needing a little extra warmth and strength this time of year. February’s Birthstone amethyst beauty will help make this month fly by in no time!

Amethyst is purple quartz, made from a beautiful blend of violet and red. Once considered more valuable than diamonds, amethyst can be found in every corner of the earth. The ancient Greeks believed that this gemstone held many powers, among them protection against intoxication.  In fact, the word Amethyst comes from the Greek word “amethystos,” meaning sober.

For many years, amethyst was held to be one of the most precious gemstones often favored by royalty who wore this intense violet hue. Amethyst has been found in ruins dating as far back as the ninth century, adorning crowns, scepters, jewelry, and breastplates worn into battle. Even today, a large amethyst is among the closely guarded gemstones in the British Crown Jewels.

It may not be a crown, but these spectacular earrings by Shoshana will definitely make you feel like royalty. Bold and elegant, these cannot-be-missed 14 karat yellow gold earrings feature vibrant rubies, pink sapphires, diamonds and of course amethysts.

Another famous royal who favored amethyst was Cleopatra. In fact, it is said that the signet ring she wore was an amethyst. You can feel like a Greek goddess as well with a stunning amethyst ring of your very own.

On the day you step out with this stunner on your finger, heads will definitely turn in your direction. Made by Bulgari, this ring is made with 8 karat yellow gold with a beautiful amethyst stone in a unique setting.

Another breathtaking option is this ring by Doves. Beautiful amethyst is coupled with pink mother of pearl creating an original and alluring shade of purple, surrounded by 0.34cts of diamonds.

Do you feel like a modern day Cleopatra yet?

If you are still on the hunt for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift, amethyst can be an unexpected yet very appropriate choice. Amethyst is said to be the stone of Saint Valentine, who wore an amethyst engraved with the figure of his assistant, Cupid.

Your favorite valentine will look at you with love in her eyes when she sees these Murano multi-stone earrings by Marco Bicego. Each pair is hand engraved with 18 karat yellow gold to beautifully showcase rhodolite garnet and amethyst gems.

And did we mention there is a matching ring as well?

And speaking of the power of love, if you are celebrating an anniversary this month amethyst is an ideal gem to choose. It is believed that the gift of amethyst strengthens the bond in a love relationship.

Nothing will say “I love you” while giving your anniversary some extra sparkle more elegantly than this multi-stone and diamond bracelet by Shoshana. You can make it an anniversary to remember with this 18 karat while gold bracelet made with pink amethyst, green amethyst, citrine and blue topaz, framed by 1.17cts of round diamonds.

The legends and lore associated with this month’s birthstone are as deep as the color itself. However, whether or not amethyst holds such power, it’s stunning beauty will certainly make anyone celebrating something special this month – or anyone who just loves beautiful jewelry – feel like royalty!

Love Is All Around!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Are you looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?
We’ve got some ideas, just for you!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. It is a time when you can feel the love that is all around. The air smells sweeter that day (probably thanks to all the flowers, chocolate and candy!), and most people’s eyes sparkle a little bit brighter. In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the UK, France and Australia. According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday!

Do you know what would go great with one of those sentimental cards this year? A piece of new jewelry, of course! To keep your love close to her heart, we have several beautiful necklaces from our Shoshana line to choose from.

Either of these Shoshana Open Heart diamond and sapphires necklaces will make her fall in love with you all over again. They come in two styles, with one in 18 karat yellow gold, featuring diamonds and sapphires, or one made with 18 karat rose gold set with 0.62cts of rubies, 0.59cts of pink sapphires and 0.28cts of diamonds. Your love for her will shine through with either option. You cannot go wrong.

For something with a little more sparkle, the Shoshana rose gold and diamond heart pendant will capture her love – and take her breath away. This dazzler is made with 18 karat white and rose gold, set with 0.78cts of fine white and fancy pink round diamonds.

If she would like something a little more playful, you can pull right on her heart strings with a Shoshana Hearts within Heart pendant. This delightful design comes in 18 karat white gold with a colorful array of 1.18cts of pink, yellow and blue round sapphires.

For your more understated Valentine, this sterling silver locket by Monica Rich Kosann could be a great option. Imagine the smile that will spread across her face every time she looks down and sees a special photo beautifully displayed in this necklace, right next to her heart.

The chocolates you plan to give her will taste even sweeter as she admires this elegant sapphire and diamond bypass ring by Shoshana – she won’t even mind if she picks her least favorite filling! The two heart shaped sapphires, set with 0.61cts of diamonds will make her heart (and taste buds) do a happy dance.

All of those sweet nothings you plan on whispering into her ear over the candlelight dinner you have planned will sound extra poetic when these ruby and diamond earrings frame her beautiful face. Featuring heart shaped rubies, these little numbers are made with 18 karat yellow gold, framed by 0.92cts of baguette diamonds.

What about the littlest Valentines in your life? We have some sweet ideas for them, too.

Imagine their face light up when they first see this custom George Press signature heart necklace that you picked out just for them. Made with 14 karat white gold, and set with 0.14cts of diamonds, you will make your little darling feel like the most special girl in the world (and bonus points if you get Mommy a grown-up heart shaped necklace too).

Another adorable and classic choice is an ID bracelet. Each bracelet is made with 14 karat yellow gold with a pink enamel heart, and can be engraved with a message of your choice as unique as your little Valentine. Every time she looks down at it, whether at school or during one of her activities, she will think of you and always remember how much she is loved.

We wish you and your loved ones non-stop love this Valentine’s Day. We hope it is a day filled with smiles and chocolate. No matter how you plan on celebrating, as the wise Katherine Hepburn once said remember that “love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A New Year, A New You, A New Engagement

The start of a new year is always a magical time. Once the clock strikes midnight on December 31st and a new year is ushered in, the air is buzzing with new hopes, dreams and exciting aspirations (thanks to that extra cocktail or two…). For the love birds out there, it can also mean the start of a new chapter: an engagement!

According to Brides Magazine, “engagement season” tends to run from November through February. If you are waiting for the moment to say “YES!” – or are busy planning the perfect way to ask – if 2018 is your engagement year, now’s the time to check out the up and coming trends.

Oval shaped diamonds are becoming a popular alternative to both round and emerald shapes. The elongated shape lends itself to a vintage vibe and can vary from stone to stone to give you a ring truly all your own.

Some options would be an oval center stone surrounded by either pear shaped or round diamonds for some extra sparkle.

While the oval cut is a trend on the more classic side, pear-cut rings are totally modern and fashion-forward for 2018. This option is perfect for the trendsetting bride who wants a standout ring to match her everyday style.

An exciting and unexpected choice could be this diamond engagement helix ring by Steven Kretchmer. This style is unique for a pear shaped stone to maximize its brilliance.

As brides continue to embrace brighter hues for their wedding colors, the same is true for engagements rings too. With so many colored gemstones to choose from, the sky is the limit!

This ruby and diamond ballerina ring will make your fiancé spin with love and delight. Featuring a 2.62ct round Burmese Ruby, this stunner is framed by 3.10cts of baguette diamonds.

If your love runs as deep as the ocean, how about this Shoshana sapphire and diamond bypass ring. This unique setting is made with 18 karat white gold featuring two (how perfect for an engagement ring?) heart shaped sapphires set with 0.61cts of diamonds.

Instead of a single stone, more brides are opting for blinged-out bands. They offer just as much sparkle as a big center stone, but are more suitable for those who aren’t comfortable with the height of a solitaire.

You’ll be basking in layers of love with this set of three diamond eternity bands. The set features one platinum eternity band set with 3.94cts of round brilliant diamonds surrounded by two 18 karat yellow bands each set with 3.06cts of both fine white and champagne round diamonds, all designed by George Press.

Whether you select a ring that is “on-trend” or decide to create an original piece, for over 35 years George Press has helped thousands of couples say “Will you marry me?” We understand the importance of finding that one-of-a-kind piece for a day you will remember forever. An exceptional moment deserves an exceptional ring.

Come in and visit George Press today for all of your engagement and wedding band needs. We can help you find that special piece for that special someone. And let us be the first to wish you a happy engagement in the New Year!

Red Rubies for July Babies!

Birthstones are a bit muddled up these days. Most months claim to have several birthstones, based on horoscopes, ancient practices, tradition, mysticism etc. July is no exception. It lays claim to no less than six different birthstones; ruby, carnelian, turquoise, onyx, sardonyx and sapphire. Confused? So are we. They aren’t even the same color! We tend to be more traditional, and more than that, we see no reason to set aside July’s best known, irresistible birthstone, the ruby!

Rubies have been known as the king of gems. They have a history of being prized by royalty, and in larger sizes, are rarer than diamonds, sapphires and emeralds. So, large rubies of good quality can be worth more than any comparably-sized gemstone.

Like sapphires, rubies are a red variety of the mineral corundum. Every other color corundum is called a sapphire. Upper Burma and Thailand are well-known sources of quality rubies. The most desirable Burmese rubies are described as “Pigeon’s Blood” for their intense red color. Interestingly, the term comes not from the color of blood, but for the iris color in the eye of a white pigeon. Rubies from Thailand tend to have more of a dark brownish-red color.

Colors can range from pinkish, purple, orangey and brown-toned reds. Value depends on origin, color, size and clarity. Most rubies are cut in their original country, as high-value rough ruby can be subject to strict governmental control. So custom cut and recut stones typically have even more value. But more than that, few stones have the color, the passion and fire of a beautiful ruby!

Born for the Fourth of July!

Just look at the fireworks of color going off on this Diamond and Ruby Bracelet from the George Press Estate Collection. Set in 18 karat yellow gold, this magnificent bracelet also contains 1.20 cts of diamonds. Get your blue and white outfit ready, because this is all the red you will ever need for patriotic celebrations. Of course, that doesn’t mean it isn’t just as gorgeous on every other special occasion! This is the kind of bracelet that can become a woman’s trademark. If you can also claim it as your birthstone, so much the better!

 Prima Ballerina!

This Burmese Ruby and Diamond Ballerina Ring is so-called because of the way the 3.10 cts of diamond baguettes form a “tutu” around the 2.62 cts round Burmese Ruby. Think about the elements that define a ruby’s value-origin, color, size and clarity and then look at this ring through new eyes. Simply breathtaking!

Fire and Ice

The perfect combination, red hot rubies and ice cold diamonds, are beautifully proportioned in this Diamond and Ruby Oval Link Bracelet. Set in precious platinum, this Bracelet features 3.92 cts of round diamonds and 3.00 cts of square rubies. What a great design to showcase the contrast of these fine gemstones. This bracelet is a sparkler that lasts all year long!

There you have it, the case is made for our choice of July birthstone. The appeal of passionate, fiery rubies cannot be denied. You will have to excuse us, July ladies, if we also offer rubies to our customers who aren’t “July-born.” We could never be so cruel as to deny them these rose-red precious delights. After all, all of our customers are royalty in our eyes!

Link Jewelry You Won’t Want to Miss!

At George Press we take our duty to study jewelry fashion seriously.  No matter how grueling it is to look at page after page of gorgeous link jewelry, to watch stunning models strut the catwalk and only look at their ears, necks, wrists and fingers, to visit jewelry shows in exotic locales – we will buckle down and do it!  Why? You may ask?  Because we are professionals. Um, and because no sacrifice is too much for our customers.  That’s why we feel it is our fashion duty to inform you about a hot new trend in the jewelry world – “link jewelry.”

Last months’s runway shows in fashion capitals like London, Paris, Milan and New York strongly emphasized the use of link jewelry and accessories in a variety of materials, from fabric to precious metals. Yves St. Laurent, Alexander Wang, Dior and Balenciaga were among the many designers touting this simple, fresh style.

What is the difference between link jewelry and chains?   A chain is typically made up of links.  But in link jewelry, the focus is on the links themselves, which are usually larger, looser, and sometimes feature unusual accents or differences in the sizes, shapes or colors of the links.

Hera Agora Drop Earrings

Hera Agora Drop Earrings

Hera Agora Drop Earrings

Take, for example, these Hera Agora Drop Earrings. In 18 karat rose gold and sterling silver, these earrings feature 0.21cts of diamonds displayed in twisted, diamond‐shaped links in three different colors and sizes. Hera offers similar patterns in a pendant, necklace and coordinating bracelet. Placed on your ears, these scintillating link drops will command attention.

Marco Bicego Positano Diamond Earrings

Marco Bicgeo Positano Diamond Earrings

Marco Bicgeo Positano Diamond Earrings

Marco Bicego comes through with a different perspective on the link earring with his positively stunning Positano collection. Here he circles the links up into a “button” earring and finishes them with 0.28cts of pave diamonds. Innovation with a classic twist, these earrings have a pedigree that will take them well into your future.

Alor Diamond Chain

Alor Diamond Chain

Alor Diamond Chain

With this Alor Diamond Chain, the difference between “link” and “chain” gets a little fuzzier, but we just love this necklace and we would be remiss if we didn’t at least point it out to you. In 18 karat white gold, this 18 inch necklace features diamonds and a link chain cut to sparkle and shine!

Diamond and Ruby Bracelet

Finally, take link jewelry to its ultimate destination with this platinum oval link bracelet featuring 3.00cts of square rubies and 3.92cts of round diamonds. With link jewelry like this, your every gesture will become notable. People will notice, they may even gossip. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Well that’s another tough job done. We’d stay and chat but we have to get back to trying on the engagement rings and looking at ourselves in hand mirrors. After all, jewelers work from sun to sun, but a fashionista’s work is never done.

September Sapphires — Follow the Rainbow!

When we think of sapphires we almost always think of blue.  That’s not surprising when you consider that blue is the most popular color in the world.  But we are doing ourselves a disservice!

September’s birthstone comes in a range of wonderful colors, including pink, orange, yellow, green, white, purple and lavender.

Sapphires are a gemstone of the mineral corundum, which, when red, is called a  ruby. Although cornflower blue or Kashmir sapphires are highly prized, the rarest form of sapphire is actually the orange-pink Padparadschah, typically found in Sri Lanka. Padparadschah loosely translates to “lotus flower” in Sanskrit.

Sapphires can vary in density, so they are measured by carat weight and by size. Hue, tone and saturation are the three qualities used in evaluating color. These pink George Press Sapphire Bands are a beautiful hue! Shown here encasing a lustrous 6.84 carat Diamond Eternity Band, they are available together or separately from George Press Custom Jewelry.

Many magical functions have been historically attributed to sapphires.   Ancient civilizations believed that sapphires protected against the “evil eye”, envy, poisoning and sore throats.  Yellow sapphires are supposed to help overcome shyness.  These beautiful Shoshana Diamond and Sapphire Daisy Earrings certainly have a magical quality. No one wearing these charming blooms could ever be described as shy!

Sapphires have been popular in engagement rings for centuries.  They are said to symbolize romance, sincerity and fidelity.  Popular with royalty, it is said that deep blue sapphires may have been the source of the color known as “royal blue.”  Napoleon Bonaparte gave Empress Josephine a sapphire and diamond engagement ring.  Princess Catherine, formerly Kate Middleton, currently wears the sapphire engagement ring that Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana.

Today’s celebrities have also followed this example, with Penelope Cruz, Elizabeth Hurley and Jenny McCarthy flaunting sapphireengagement rings. Jenny’s is a 10 carat yellow sapphire!  If you’re more of a traditionalist, this beautiful Gregg Ruth Diamond and Sapphire Antique Cluster Ring recalls Princess Diana’s treasured ring in a most elegant way.
