Glamourous Looks at the Grammys

This past Sunday our favorite singers and songwriters were celebrated at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The night was filled with amazing performances from artists such as Demi Lovato, Lizzo, and Ariana Grande. But before the actual show itself, there was the incredible red carpet fashion to enjoy and we simply loved it!

There were several particularly stunning looks – and of course some even more stunning jewelry. The style reporters were all abuzz over Ariana Grande’s TWO red carpet looks. We loved that with each glam gown she kept the accessories simple and classic, complete with coordinating satin opera gloves. Very classy indeed.

Fierce Fashion at the ACMs

Earlier this month the Las Vegas strip was sparkling with country music’s biggest stars at the Academy of Country Music Awards held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Some people may think of jeans and cowboy boots when it comes to country music, but these singers and songwriters definitely know how to work a red carpet, and the fashion was fierce. While some stars sported dresses or pantsuits in pale, spring pastels, others rocked all-black ensembles with lace accents. As always we were most focused on the accessories.

Miranda Lambert was rocking some great geometric earrings that coordinated perfectly with her bright green dress and colorful clutch. The newlywed’s NYPD husband didn’t look too bad either!

These great lady’s two tone diamond earrings will fill you with newlywed glee. Made with 18karat gold the pair features 0.66cts of round brilliant G/H Si1 diamonds, bright green dress optional.

Oscar Worthy Accessories

While the rest of us lounged in our finest sweatpants and slippers, our favorite celebrities were dressed to the nines in their snazziest wardrobe looks of the entire season for this year’s Oscars late last month. Over the top glamour is a must on this night. As are incredible accessories to finish off the red carpet looks. The dresses may always seem to rule the red carpet, but quite a few of the stars dazzled in some serious jewels that deserve a second, and third, and fourth glance.

One of the biggest jewelry trends of the night was big, beautiful statement necklaces. Of course everyone could not stop talking about Lady Gaga wearing the iconic Tiffany Yellow Diamond.

From eye-catching statement necklaces to carefully coordinated pieces, there was no better place for celebrities to bring their style A game. And bring it they did.

2019 Golden Globes Red Carpet

Red carpet gowns are always known to make bold fashion statements. Following last year’s black tones in support of the Time’s Up movement, Sunday’s dresses turned back to technicolor and brought an extra level of fun to the most boisterous ceremony of the awards season. We saw colors from all across the rainbow, complimented with incredible jewelry that we could not help but gaze at.

Sandra Oh had quite an exciting night as both a host and an award winner. During the broadcast she donned several beautiful looks. However we were particularly taken with her gorgeous ensemble on the red carpet. Her beautifully upswept hair gave her gown a more romantic look, and allowed us to take a peek at those lovely earrings she wore before the celebrations began.

A similar pair of Tiffany earrings by Schlumberger will give you a grin as big as Sandra Oh’s – without having to change your gown countless times! This timeless piece is made from 18karat gold. Schlumberger’s designs were coveted and collected by the world’s most fashionable women, including Jacqueline Kennedy and legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland. Today, they continue to be worn by women of unimpeachable taste.

Michelle Yeoh was the talk of the red carpet when she flashed a very special piece of jewelry that she wore in Crazy Rich Asians: the enormous emerald ring. And this lucky starlet did not borrow the bauble from the film’s wardrobe department – it is actually hers in real life! Lucky girl.

But Ms. Yeoh shouldn’t be the only one with an impressive emerald ring in her jewelry box. Henry Dunay created this amazing ring with a standout design. It features 3.60cts of diamonds and vivid emerald and sapphire cabochons that will turn heads and get people talking. Do not be surprised if a big movie’s wardrobe department soon calls you for styling tips!

Kristin Cavallari was one of the pre-show red carpet commentators, so you know her fashion game had to be top notch on Sunday, and it definitely was.

The designer and former reality star looked incredible in her detailed dress. Our favorite part was of course her pink drop earrings. If you love them as much as we do, check out these beauties made by Doves.

This exquisite pair of rose gold drop earrings feature rose quartz and 0.64cts of black and white diamonds. With these framing your gorgeous face, you too will be on top of your fashion game. Flesh colored dress not required.

Last year’s Golden Globes red carpet made a bold political statement with the black dress initiative. This year had a tough act to follow, no matter how much tulle, spanx and hairspray our favorite stars had at their disposal. Nevertheless, the 2019 red carpet was full of looks that did not disappoint with a variety of colors and accessories for all of us to enjoy. With such an explosion of color and sparkle, it was quite the kick off to awards season. Is it time for the next red carpet event yet?!

Being Thankful for Our Favorite November Babies

Sandwiched between the festivities of Halloween and the excitement of Christmas, the month of November is sometimes overlooked. But do not worry November babies, we definitely did not forget about you! And what is even better is that you have not one, but two spectacular birthstones to help you brighten up your birthday celebrations this month.

The November birthstones – topaz and citrine – are both known for their calming energies, bringing warmth and fortune to those who wear them. Topaz is a soothing stone that has been said to calm tempers, cure madness and eliminate nightmares (which may come in handy this time of year!).

Through much of history, all yellow gems were considered topaz and all topaz was thought to be yellow. But lucky for you, topaz is actually available in many colors.

Marco Bicego has almost an entire collection dedicated to blue topaz. The Jaipur Collection includes bracelets, necklaces and earrings in a variety of price points and styles. With so many options to choose from, there is no doubt that you will find the perfect piece – or pieces – of jewelry to wear on a celebratory birthday night out.

A clever gift for your favorite November baby that is harder to shop for could be this Philip Stein Horizon white topaz bracelet. Made with sterling silver, this piece provides natural frequencies around you to help you focus and relax.

If you are looking for something a little more personal for a November birthday gift, this customizable initial pendant by Doves could be perfect. Made with 18 karat rose gold, white topaz and diamonds, this piece can be customized with whatever initial you would like to create a treasured gift for a loved one (or yourself!).

November’s second birthstone, citrine, takes its name from the citron fruit because of the stone’s lemon-inspired shades which range from pale yellow to brownish orange. Citrine is sometimes known as the “healing quartz” for its ability to comfort, soothe and calm. It can release negative feelings, spark imagination and manifest fresh beginnings. It’s even called the “merchant’s stone” for its tendency to attract wealth and prosperity.

And lucky for you, Marco Bicego’s Jaipur Collection gives you a wealth of options and styles for citrine jewelry as well. These pieces really play off the golden coloring of the citrine stone to give you beautiful looks that are perfect for the tones of the autumn season.

You can take your pick of drop earrings, stud earrings, or stackable rings.

And if for some reason you cannot decide between topaz and citrine, do not worry! The Jaipur Collection has you covered once again…perhaps it should be called the topaz and citrine collection instead…

Both pairs of these double drop French wire earrings are made with 18 karat yellow gold. All you need to decide is which stone you would like to be more prominent: the yellow citrine or blue topaz. Decisions, decisions! You cannot go wrong either way.

Happiest of birthdays to our favorite November babies. While sometimes it may feel like your month is forgotten, we promise to always celebrate you with fantastic new jewelry to help you look your best both on your special day and all the days thereafter.

Party Like a Rockstar at the American Music Awards

Who knew that a Tuesday night could be so stylish? Well, our favorite rock stars sure did! On October 9th musicians, actors and stars of all kinds celebrated one of music’s biggest nights, the 2018 American Music Awards. Every year the AMAs bring the red carpet glamour and fashion, and this year was no different. Glitter, sequins and metallics were everywhere! Between the entrances and the evening’s entertainment, this particular Tuesday was a lot more exciting than your standard weeknight on the couch.

Everyone could not stop talking about Taylor Swift’s metallic mini-dress and coordinating boots.

We personally loved how with such a bold outfit, she kept her accessories very clean and simple. Her geometric earrings really tied it all together.

A similar but rounder option are these black cable hook earrings by Alor. The pair is made with 18karat white gold and diamonds giving your look just that extra bit of edge…without head to toe metallic.

metallic fashion

One of our favorite country starlets, Carrie Underwood picked a starburst embellished velvet gown, perfectly complimented by her leaf-like earrings.

Well, we can’t think of a better time to embrace foliage-inspired accessories than the fall season. Delicate yet intricate, this sterling silver and 18karat rose gold Hera Palmera leaf pendant features 0.40cts of diamonds and is the perfect piece to layer over your new long sleeve top for these chillier days.

fall fashion

Tracee Ellis Ross, the host of this year’s AMAs definitely brought her fashion game, and kicked off the night in a cool-girl take on a the traditional “business suit” with a stand-out necklace.

If you are looking to take your business look up a notch, this incredible pearl and diamond necklace is just the ticket. The delicate Buccellati six strand choker style pearl necklace features 18karat white gold and a 0.72ct diamond clasp. Now that is what we like to call glamming up the board room!

Dua Lipa, a New Artist of the Year nominee wowed in white with her elegant dress.

The sweetheart neckline cut of her gown made it an ideal spot to show off a flattering necklace. This simple yet sophisticated necklace by Alor is a unique look that will have everyone inquiring. The twisted grey cable overlaps and meets with two diamond studded stations at the base.

The American Music Awards celebrates the music that is voted on by fans, and as usual our favorite artists did not disappoint. With red carpet looks that included fun surprises like mega metallic mini-dresses, over the top florals, and killer suiting, 2018 will definitely go down as a highlight.

And do not worry, we made sure to take copious notes on the best accessories for over the top ensembles, so the next time you plan on wearing a gown that cannot be missed we will have the perfect jewelry on hand just for you.

A Big Night for Television and Fashion at the 70th Emmy Awards

Many consider the Emmy Awards the biggest night in television, with millions of people tuning in to the broadcast each year. This past Monday marked the Emmy’s 70th year. A-listers of the small screen were dressed to the nines after a weekend full of pre-parties. The looks were full of color along with a touch of fun but ultimately incredibly glamorous.

Between the great one-liners, celebrity cameos and glamour galore, there was certainly no end to the must-see moments from the show. Some of our favorites included the amazing accessories some of our favorite stars selected to complete their looks. The sparkle factor was definitely huge this year!

Mandy Moore had an incredible look for this year’s Emmys. Her bracelet alone made us stop in our tracks! If you are in the market for a show-stopping bangle, these two options could be just what you are after.

From their Classique collection, Alor’s stainless grey cable and diamond bangle is an eye-catcher and has just enough edge to it that when paired with the right outfit, can easily transition from day to night.

If you want something with a lot more sparkle the custom George Press bangle definitely delivers! The stunning design features three overlapping rows of 18karat white gold and 2.21cts of exquisite diamonds.

Many people could not take their eyes off of Rachel Brosnahan’s incredible hombre gown. For us, it was the earrings. With her hair swept up her earrings became quite the stand-out accessory.

You can give your lobes some love too with these diamond chandelier earrings. This simply breathtaking pair is made with 18karat yellow gold and 10.56cts of beautiful diamonds. When you wear them out on the town, follow Rachel’s lead. Wear your hair up and keep your neckline bare so you can really showcase these incredible earrings.

Penelope Cruz had a look that we just loved. We could not help but be drawn to the breathtaking necklace she was wearing.

In fact, we carry almost the exact same necklace in our store! With this around your neck, you will feel like a celebrity in no time. Designed by Gregg Ruth as part of the Asher Cut Collection, this beyond amazing piece of jewelry is made with 18karat white gold and 6.60cts of twinkling diamonds.

If you have your heart set on an Emmy look similar to Sydney Sweeney’s we have something that will make you go all “a flutter.”

Another custom George Press piece, the Heart Rivera necklace is a classic look with over 4.20cts of diamonds.

If playful jewelry is more your style, Samira Wiley definitely looked like she was having fun with her look on Monday night.

You can be grinning ear to ear too with these carefree earrings framing your smile. These Lady’s Rose 18karat tassel earrings are made with diamonds and pearls and will make you so happy you will feel if you won your very own Emmy.

Speaking of being happy and carefree, do you remember the days of bingeing on episodes of Felicity? As soon as we saw Kerri Russel that is all we could think about. Well, that and her amazing earrings.

Channel your still-strong love for Felicity and transport yourself back to 1999(ish) with these spectacular earrings by Doves. These lovelies are made with 18karat rose gold with over 2.30cts of white and cognac diamonds. You will radiate elegance the moment you put them on. After all, Felicity…we mean Keri Russel isn’t the only one that has grown up.

No matter which of your favorite celebrities you were hoping to see rock the red carpet, or which show you were rooting for to sweep the Emmys this year, it was without a doubt a great show that we could not wait to rehash on Tuesday morning. It was TV’s biggest party of 2018 and we definitely enjoyed being one of the guests. From the comfort of our couches and sweatpants of course.

Fashion’s Playground at the Teen Choice Awards

The grown-ups may have the Oscars and Golden Globes, but celebrities of all ages take fashion very seriously, with this year’s Teen Choice Awards being no exception. The red carpet may not have been full of ball gowns and tuxedos, but the who’s who of the young Hollywood starlets did not disappoint.

The night was full of eye-catching looks from sparkling shorts to glamorous glittering jumpsuits. Without a doubt, it was a night full of color and these bold outfit choices also included some jewelry looks that we could not get enough of.

Meghan Trainor accessorized her stunning midnight blue two-piece with simpler accessories to keep her look balanced. The next time you step out in a dramatic ensemble, make sure you follow Meghan’s lead and keep your jewelry simple for a polished look.

Two great options for earrings – especially if you decide to wear your hair up – are these two pairs, both by Doves. The white tones will really pop if worn with a darker and/or bolder color.

Both of these beauties are made with 18karat yellow gold, featuring mother of pearl and exquisite diamonds. You cannot go wrong with either option.

Another dramatic yet simple accessory for a bolder look is this amazing fashion ring by one of our favorite designers, Alor. Meghan kept her look balanced with one ring on each hand. If are looking for something special for your right hand (or left!), this lady’s Alor white gold ring is simple, yet eye catching. It is made with a white stainless steel and 18karat white gold cable from Alor’s Classique collection, featuring 0.08cts of round diamonds.

One of today’s hottest singers, Bebe Rexha also choice a colorful two piece outfit with accessories more on the sparkly side (which we love).

With her accessories, Bebe really embraced the layered look. And while the color of her ensemble is bold, she kept it monotone which helped her jewelry stand out.

If you tend to favor the layered look as well, this necklace by Honora could be a great option. It is made with 5.5-6MM potato white freshwater cultured pearl and onyx, set in sterling silver. The classic color combination makes it ideal with any outfit, and at 60” in length you can really play with how to wear it, giving you endless options.

red carpet styling

For a similar look, but with less layers, Honora has two other pearl necklaces at a shorter, 36” length. Both are made with sterling silver and feature 9-10MM baroque freshwater cultured pearls.

Storm Reid, an up and coming actress, kept her look a little more on the casual side. We couldn’t help but notice her bracelet, which reminded us of another of Alor’s classic pieces, the cable cuff bracelet.

Also part of the Classique collection, the Lady’s Alor stainless cable cuff bracelets come in a variety of colors to match whatever outfit or mood you are in.

This year’s Teen Choice Awards was a night filled with fashion fun. Our favorite young stars gave us some really great looks from head to painted toes. Whether it be on the big screen or the silver screen, we cannot see what these starlets have in store for us next.

Cool Looks for Hot Days

As summer temperatures go up, the number of layers you wear goes down, giving you less options to finish off your daily look. But, with the help of some fun new pieces of jewelry you can give your favorite tank tops and sundresses an instant refresh without the major closet overhaul.

Summer is a great time to embrace color, something that one of our favorite designers Belle Etoile is well known for. In fact, some of their collections are obvious nods to these summer months – such as Under the Sea and Sunflower.

The Sea Turtle collection is also quite sweet. You can take your pick between bangles, earrings, or a necklace. With all of the beautiful colors, it will have you thinking of the beach in no time!

summer fashion

Everyone loves beach days in the summertime (or at any time if you are like us!), so why not dress as if you have sand between your toes all summer long?! These new pieces from Honora are the color of the sea and can be mixed and matched to go with a variety of outfits no matter what social event you have to look forward to, from a beach bonfire to a lazy brunch in town and everywhere in between.

The bracelets, earrings, and necklace are all made with sterling silver white pearls, featuring aquamarine stones to complete each look beautifully.

During these humid summer months many ladies find it easier – and cooler – to wear their hair swept up. And what else compliments an updo than a stylish pair of earrings?

These delicate little numbers would look amazing with your summertime tan and chic bun. Made by Marco Bicego, these two strand earrings are made with 18karat yellow gold and jaipur mixed blue topaz stones.

summer style

If you are looking to move away from blue tones for something a little hotter, you will definitely love these ruby earrings. Made with 18karat white gold, and featuring round rubies and diamonds, these show stoppers will make sure the thermometer isn’t the only thing around that is hot!

beach season

Ever since summertime equaled time off from school, most of us have always looked forward to these months. The days last longer and the smiles, sunscreen and laughter never seem to end. All our worries seem to lessen – if even just a tiny bit – as we slip into a favorite pair of flip flops. And now, with the help of some of these new “beach inspired” jewelry looks, hopefully that lighter summertime feeling can be enjoyed all year round.

Your 2018 Graduation Gift Guide

The month of May is officially upon us. We (finally) have summer break in our sights, but before that comes graduation and all of its glory. As our favorite students adorn their cap and gowns and enjoy the traditions of pomp and circumstance, they are filled with the same hope and excitement for the future as all of the graduates before them.

Perhaps the future holds an adventure to a new place like a college campus, or the start of their adult life with a new job. In fact, the word “commencement” means a beginning or a start. And what better way to start the next chapter of their lives with a new piece of jewelry to mark the occasion?

For the soon-to-be college freshmen, a sturdy watch will help them ensure they are always on time for their classes. At George Press we carry an extensive line of Swiss Army watches, and can help you find the prefect one.

A classic choice is the Swiss Army Chrono Classic XLS. This well-known and well-liked watch is made with quality materials that captivates onlookers.

Another option is the Victorinox Swiss Army Night Vision watch. It is intuitive, efficient, practical and tough. Just like your favorite new graduate. And it also has luminous hands and hour markers, so he can still keep tabs on the time, no matter how late into the night he may be studying.

For her, the Swiss Army Officers watch is clean and timeless done in a signature yellow gold with stainless steel. It will look great on her as she sits in the front of the class eager to learn and take on the world.

If you are looking for a watch that is a little more playful vs formal, this Valentina diamond and sapphire watch by Bertolucci could be ideal. Made with stainless steel, it is finished with 0.61carats of diamonds and 0.07carats of pink sapphires.

For the graduates starting off a new career (and the ever important interview process), it is important that they dress for the job that they want.

A great new pair of cufflinks is an ideal gift for the guy that wants to climb the corporate ladder while looking his best. We have a variety of styles from playful to formal.

If you are looking for something with a bit of an edge these Deakin & Francis skull cufflinks would be ideal. Available in two different styles, both are made with sterling silver with one version featuring diamonds for eyes. These could be a great look during a medical school interview!

Another cufflink option also by Deakin & Francis are these lovely mother of pearl cufflinks. Also made with sterling silver, these beauties could be the perfect finishing touch to a brand new suit.

For her, a great pair of gorgeous yet understated earrings would be a lovely graduation gift. The Jaipur collection by Marco Bicego can take her from the interview to the board room and everywhere in between. Each pair is made with 18karat yellow gold and feature garnet, citrine or amethyst gemstones.

If you like the idea of giving your recent graduate a necklace to celebrate her accomplishments, this pearl and diamond pendant will not disappoint. From the Lunaria collection, this 18karat black mother of pearl and diamond necklace features two beautiful connected paves at the center with a yellow gold chain.

A graduation is such an important time in a person’s life. It makes the end of a familiar chapter, and kicks-off the start of an exciting new one. We wish the graduates in your life all of the best. We know that they will achieve great things – and if it is done while wearing a piece of jewelry from George Press they will look fabulous doing it!

Bridesmaid Bling

Planning a wedding is no small feat. With so many details to oversee many couples find themselves not only leaning on each other throughout the planning process, but their beloved bridal party as well. Odds are these nearest and dearest friends will lend a hand on more than one occasion such as pitching in for the bridal shower, organizing a bachelorette getaway and volunteering their time for bridesmaid dress fittings. Giving your bridesmaids a thank-you gift is not required, but it never goes unappreciated as a thoughtful token of your gratitude.

The great thing is that there is no “right or wrong” bridesmaid gift. You can get as creative as you want. However, it is always a good idea to gift them something multifunctional and timeless – such as a new piece of jewelry. After all, who wouldn’t love to receive a pretty new pair of earrings, a bracelet or a necklace? Plus, it will take the guesswork out of how they should accessorize their dress on the wedding day.

Alor has a great line of bracelets that would be perfect for a wedding day – and any day thereafter. Featured on CBS’ The Talk, these Love Affirmation bangles will show your girls how close you hold them to your heart.

Available in yellow gold, rose gold or black & silver, each feature an 18karat yellow gold charm, engraved with the word LOVE and a 0.01karat diamond. With three styles to choose from you can take your pick depending on the color of their bridesmaid dress.

2 3 4

If you like the idea of giving your girls each a different gift with the same theme, Honora has a wide variety of pearl earrings that could work well with anyone’s individual style. Plus, the members of your wedding party will appreciate the extra time you took to select the specific pair for each of them.

You can keep the look consistent by selecting different pairs within the same color family, such as these beauties all with black, white and/or grey tones. All are timeless looks, featuring freshwater cultured pearls set in sterling silver.

6-11No matter what style of jewelry you choose for your bridesmaids, your wedding party’s been with you since the beginning – and a lot of times this even means at the beginning of the relationship with your fiancé. Taking the time to pick out a thoughtful gift as a token of appreciation and a sweet memento of your wedding is always the right move.

Congratulations and best wishes on your wedding day. It will be a night you and your bridal party will always remember.

Springtime Florals for Spring Weddings

Half a dozen (or so) nor’easters later, spring has finally sprung! With so much warmer weather fun to look forward to, we cannot wait to kick it all off with spring weddings. Spring is a time of transformation with the promise of rebirth and renewal, love and hope abundant in the warm, sweet air.  After the dark and gloomy winter months, springtime welcomes color back into our lives with the beautiful greens of new leaves appearing on trees, the soft pastels of blooming flowers, and bright yellows of warm spring days. Whether you are attending a spring wedding as a guest, an attendant…or the guest of honor, it is a great season full of endless options to compliment your ceremony and reception looks.

Nothing says spring more than flowers, and weddings are known for their gorgeous arrangements from the bouquets and boutonnieres to the table settings. But how about some floral jewelry??

Tulips are a well-known spring flower favorite, making this gorgeous diamond and pink sapphire necklace the ideal accessory for that upcoming garden wedding you’ve been looking forward to.

Another diamond and sapphire floral necklace option is this stunning piece by Gregg Ruth. This beauty will fit right in at the upcoming black tie wedding you RSVP’ed to. It will dazzle on the dance floor with 18 karats of white gold, 0.34cts of diamonds and 2.43cts of rich blue sapphires.

If you love the ideal of floral-inspired jewelry, but would rather finish off your spring wedding look with a pair of beautiful earrings, here are four very different – but equally lovely – options.

Do you have an upcoming wedding where you must dress to impress? Perhaps as the mother of the bride or groom? These diamond drop floral earrings are nothing short of spectacular. You will never think of floral details the same way again once these beauties are hanging from your ears.

Made with 18karat white gold, the pair features 7.28cts of sparkling diamonds for an exquisitely stunning look. Our designers and gemologists at George Press created this piece exclusively for us – for you.

These enchanting pink sapphire and freshwater pearl earrings would be perfect for an afternoon wedding. Made with 14 karat yellow gold, the pair features 0.70cts of pink sapphires framed by freshwater pearls.

Another classic option for an afternoon affair are these mother of pearl and jade Tiffany earrings (does anything spell classy more than vintage Tiffany’s?) with stone inlayed 18karat yellow gold.

For a little more color and sparkle, you may want to try these beryl and diamond flower earrings on for size. These little numbers pack a big punch with 3.75cts of pear shaped yellow beryls and 0.24cts of round diamonds.

Another sweet floral option, that definitely does not lack in sparkle are these adorable earrings. Simple and sophisticated, they are made with 18karat yellow gold with 0.90cts of round diamonds.

As we leave March behind us – she definitely came in like a lion and out like a lamb this year – and look towards April and the spring we cannot wait to put our snow boots away, thaw out, and welcome in this warmer weather. There is so much to look forward to as we embrace the new season. And if the sight of new buds on trees or flowers poking up from the ground doesn’t make you smile, we know that the spring weddings you have this year – with some great new floral jewelry – definitely will.

Always remember, as Robin Williams once said: “Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s Party!’” so make sure you do…with some superb George Press jewelry on of course.

Celebrating National Jewels

Precious stones are one of nature’s ways of showing how incredibly beautiful it can be. Since the beginning of time people have been adorning themselves with gems and jewels to stand out and wow an audience. From necklaces to pendants and bracelets, precious stones have always been a favorite way for people to express themselves.

However, when we think of these precious stones, images of diamonds, rubies and emeralds always tend to come to mind. Well diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but there are so many gemstones that are rarer – and even more valuable.

National Jewel Day was March 13th, but don’t worry, you can still brush up on your precious stone knowledge, and perhaps treat yourself to something new to celebrate.

Here are a few options to consider:

Opal is a fairly common gemstone but Black Opals are a beautiful rarity. These stones are streaked with a rainbow of colors that radiate much brighter than opals of lighter or milky body tones. This vibrant “play of color” and the stone’s rareness are why this precious stone has such a high value.

It may be a different stone, but black pearls have a special kind of beauty all their own. These stones are also able to showcase multiple colors that may be less noticeable on the same stone with a lighter tone. Most commonly, black pearls have a gorgeous violet to green iridescence that makes them especially captivating.

Honora’s black mother of pearl earrings, necklace and ring all fully exhibit this beauty. Both the earrings and necklace are made with freshwater pearls as well for a stunning contrast.

Garnet is found in almost every color of the rainbow including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, pink and colorless. However it is the Blue Garnet that remains the rarest and most fascinating. What makes this stone so captivating is its unique ability to change color. In daylight, the gem is a soft blue-green but changes to a vivid purple under incandescent light. Now that is a piece of jewelry that can really take you from daytime to date night!

You will look absolutely stunning on your next big date night with these incredible garnet earrings. This riveting pair is made with 14 karat yellow gold with countless glimmering oval garnets.

Winning the title of rarest precious stone is Jadeite. While easily confused with jade, only jadite is considered a rare gem. Jadeite’s value is judged by the combination of the intensity of its green color and high degree of transparency.  At Christie’s in 1997, a jadeite necklace called the “Doubly Fortunate” set the highest price for a piece of jadeite jewelry sold at auction, selling for $9.3 million.

You can set some beauty records of your own with these agate and diamond earrings by Doves. The rich, green color is a nice nod to jadeite and will add some color to your look, complimented by 0.50 carats of black and white diamonds.

The term precious typically means something of great value, which in terms of gems is easiest to measure monetarily. However, every stone has a special quality about it, all its own – similar to the person wearing it. These gems may be considered the most precious, but we are George Press know that nothing can hold a candle to a piece’s sentimental value.

In honor National Jewel Day from this past month, come on by to celebrate and share your new knowledge with us!

Beautiful Jewels and a Rainbow of Colors at the 2018 Oscars

The most coveted event of the 2018 awards season has finally arrived: The Oscars! This red carpet is like the grand ball for stars in their designer gowns. We could not wait to see what our favorite stars were going to come up with, from the fancy shoes to of course the glittering jewels.

After the sea of black gowns at this year’s Golden Globes, we weren’t sure what to expect. Thankfully, the Oscar’s red carpet treated us to gowns in all colors of the rainbow, and the glittering gems were like the magical pots of gold at the end. Every single look was worthy of a second glance – or more depending on the details.

Gal Gadot, the star of Wonder Woman, looked absolutely wonderful with this 27-carat aquamarine drop necklace with over 1,000 diamonds(!). It definitely made quite the statement and was hard to miss!

(Image by Valerie Macon/AFP/Getty, from US)

If you are looking for your very own necklace that could rival any superhero’s ensemble, look no further than this incredible George Press diamond Riviera necklace. Who needs special powers when this beauty can light up a room? Featuring 23.33cts of diamonds it definitely has the ability to bring people to their knees.

If you are after something a little more understated, take a cue from Zoey Deutch. Her simple, yet equally lovely earrings were the ideal accessory to her detailed gown.

(Image by Kevin Mazur/WireImage, from US)

Perhaps you have a top with a lot of beadwork in your closet that you love, but never know what to wear with it. Well, these Marco Bicego Siviglia sapphire earrings are just the finishing touch you are looking for. These spectacular little numbers are hand engraved with 18 karat gold featuring vibrant pink sapphires, for just the right pop of color.

Helen Miren definitely got the memo about bringing some color to the red carpet, and she glammed it up even more with a breathtaking blue sapphire necklace and coordinating earrings. The simple and flattering lines of her gown really showcased these pieces in all of their glimmering glory.

We all have a simple dress – or two – in our closet. Well, why not be like Helen and step it up a bit? You will never look at that dress the same way once you pair it with these Gregg Ruth diamond and sapphire chandelier earrings. The sparkle of the 0.74cts of diamonds can transform it in the blink of an eye… but why stop there? Helen didn’t.

Make her (and her stylist) proud by also wearing this antique diamond and sapphire necklace. You will absolutely fall in love with this exquisite piece, and with 11.63cts of round diamonds and 4.50cts of sapphire, who could blame you? Your reinvigorated dress definitely won’t!

Another well-known star of the silver screen, who kept her look clean and classic was Jane Fonda. Her perfectly styled hair and simple neckline gave her drop earrings just enough room to shine. They weren’t overpowering, but you couldn’t help but notice them all at the same time. It was the perfect balance.

(Image by Kevin Mazur/Getty; from PopSugar)

These George Press one of a kind drop diamond earrings can give you that same effect. These stunners will captivate anyone and everyone with 4.81cts of fine white, champagne and cognac diamonds.

If perhaps you want something with a touch more drama, these George Press decorative diamond drop earrings may be just right. Another one-of-a-kind piece, these earrings pump up the sparkle with 5.84cts of fine white, cognac and champagne round diamonds.

As awards season winds down, and we (finally!) head towards spring and warmer weather, each of these red carpet looks gave us a taste of fun and playfulness. Whether the stars brought the rainbow to the Oscars red carpet with their couture, their jewelry, or both, it was as night filled with beautiful and impactful statements – from the outfits to the acceptance speeches.

Love Is All Around!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Are you looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift?
We’ve got some ideas, just for you!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. It is a time when you can feel the love that is all around. The air smells sweeter that day (probably thanks to all the flowers, chocolate and candy!), and most people’s eyes sparkle a little bit brighter. In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the UK, France and Australia. According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday!

Do you know what would go great with one of those sentimental cards this year? A piece of new jewelry, of course! To keep your love close to her heart, we have several beautiful necklaces from our Shoshana line to choose from.

Either of these Shoshana Open Heart diamond and sapphires necklaces will make her fall in love with you all over again. They come in two styles, with one in 18 karat yellow gold, featuring diamonds and sapphires, or one made with 18 karat rose gold set with 0.62cts of rubies, 0.59cts of pink sapphires and 0.28cts of diamonds. Your love for her will shine through with either option. You cannot go wrong.

For something with a little more sparkle, the Shoshana rose gold and diamond heart pendant will capture her love – and take her breath away. This dazzler is made with 18 karat white and rose gold, set with 0.78cts of fine white and fancy pink round diamonds.

If she would like something a little more playful, you can pull right on her heart strings with a Shoshana Hearts within Heart pendant. This delightful design comes in 18 karat white gold with a colorful array of 1.18cts of pink, yellow and blue round sapphires.

For your more understated Valentine, this sterling silver locket by Monica Rich Kosann could be a great option. Imagine the smile that will spread across her face every time she looks down and sees a special photo beautifully displayed in this necklace, right next to her heart.

The chocolates you plan to give her will taste even sweeter as she admires this elegant sapphire and diamond bypass ring by Shoshana – she won’t even mind if she picks her least favorite filling! The two heart shaped sapphires, set with 0.61cts of diamonds will make her heart (and taste buds) do a happy dance.

All of those sweet nothings you plan on whispering into her ear over the candlelight dinner you have planned will sound extra poetic when these ruby and diamond earrings frame her beautiful face. Featuring heart shaped rubies, these little numbers are made with 18 karat yellow gold, framed by 0.92cts of baguette diamonds.

What about the littlest Valentines in your life? We have some sweet ideas for them, too.

Imagine their face light up when they first see this custom George Press signature heart necklace that you picked out just for them. Made with 14 karat white gold, and set with 0.14cts of diamonds, you will make your little darling feel like the most special girl in the world (and bonus points if you get Mommy a grown-up heart shaped necklace too).

Another adorable and classic choice is an ID bracelet. Each bracelet is made with 14 karat yellow gold with a pink enamel heart, and can be engraved with a message of your choice as unique as your little Valentine. Every time she looks down at it, whether at school or during one of her activities, she will think of you and always remember how much she is loved.

We wish you and your loved ones non-stop love this Valentine’s Day. We hope it is a day filled with smiles and chocolate. No matter how you plan on celebrating, as the wise Katherine Hepburn once said remember that “love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Splashes of Color and Sparkle at the Golden Globes

Welcome to Awards Season! This past Sunday kicked it off with the 75th Golden Globes, and although this red carpet has historically been one worth looking forward to with incredible fashion being the norm, the 2018 ceremony was highly anticipated in a different way.

Most of Hollywood’s stars came together to support the black dress initiative to protest against sexual harassment, and skipped out on all the glamour and risky designs for looks more muted in tone. And while every single dress on this year’s Golden Globes red carpet will go down in history, we are happy to report that there were some amazing jewelry moments that could rival the dresses.

Alison Brie and Viola Davis showed off their low-cut sweetheart necklines with incredible diamond necklaces that did not lack in sparkle. You can do the same with this stunning and delicate antique necklace featuring 9.5cts of diamonds. In fact, with this around your neck no one will even think to notice the rest of your outfit!

Sweetheart necklines weren’t the only ones getting some extra sparkle on the red carpet. Both Kate Hudson and Issa Rae played up their plunging necklines with some dramatic choices.

To channel your inner Kate Hudson this one of a kind diamond necklace by George Press will give you just the right amount of sparkle. Made with 2.83cts of diamonds, you will feel like red carpet royalty as soon as this show-stopper is around your neck.

For some shine with a splash of eye-catching color similar to Issa Rae’s look, Doves has you covered with a white topaz and amazonite necklace. This 18 karat beauty features an oval shaped white topaz over amazonite with round tsavorite garnets outlining the left and right sides of the oval, and wrapped with round diamonds. It is a highly detailed piece that you cannot help but fall in love with.

Speaking of eye-catching color, did you see the incredible emerald earrings Zoe Kravitz wore? They were definitely hard to miss and made many fashionistas stand up and take notice.

(Image by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP and from E Online)

These agate and diamond earrings by Doves will give your outfit the same kind of oomph by adding some unexpected color. The pair feature 18 karate white gold green agate illuminated by 0.50cts of black and white diamonds.

In a sea of muted tones, Mandy Moore also chose to add some color to her look with some fiery jewelry that coordinated perfectly with her dress.

(Image by Getty/Frazer Harrison and from PopSugar)

With a variety of options in our exclusive Shoshana line, you can do the same. For a softer, yet similar look to Mandy Moore’s, you can pair these tourmaline and aqua earrings with this multi stone and diamond bracelet. The exquisite bracelet is made with pink amethyst, green amethyst, citrine and blue topaz, framed by 1.17cts of round diamonds.

Or if you want to take the look up a notch, you can wear these bold and elegant earrings. A statement all in itself, these stunners are made with 18 karat yellow gold with vibrant rubies, pink sapphires, amethysts and diamonds.

Attention all of you hazel-eyed gals out there! You will have a totally new found appreciation for your eye color after you see the piece that Greta Gerwig, one of the big winners of the night, opted to accessorize her one-shoulder gown with. Check out how gorgeous her eyes look. The bright lights of the red carpet transformed her metallic necklace into something magical.

(Image by Getty/Frazer Harrison and from PopSugar)

Marco Bicego can make your hazel eyes look magical as well with a necklace from their Lunaria collection. This one is made with 18 karat yellow gold, and can play off the light in any room just right.

With a very different set of expectations going into this year’s Golden Globes, there is no disputing that the most talked about fashion trend will be the dominance of black dresses. However, in this sea of black there was no denying the incredible jewelry that still sparkled during the red carpet and acceptance speeches. These add-ons made even the most classic black dress a bold look to remember.

Heirlooms: Pieces of Jewelry that Stand the Test of Time

What makes a pieces of jewelry heirlooms? Value, quality and beauty are all important factors to be considered. However, for most, it is the stories behind the pieces. Sometimes they are stories of love, dreams, accomplishments, and perhaps even loss. If you already have a family heirloom, there is no doubt that you treasure it. The piece is most likely associated with fond memories of the person who owned it before you, and you have probably already thought about who in your family you will one day pass it on to.

1(Image source)

An example of a famous heirloom is the engagement ring that Prince William used to propose to Kate Middleton. The diamond and sapphire ring was previously worn by William’s late mother, Princess Diana in 1981.

If you don’t have a family heirloom, there is no reason that you cannot create one. Jewelry makes the perfect choice and if chosen wisely, a quality piece of jewelry can be worn, enjoyed and cherished forever. One tip is to select a piece that is more timeless vs trendy so it can be worn across generations. Some good choices include diamonds, gold or platinum rings, pearls or charms.

If you are inspired by royal style, one option is this Gregg Ruth diamond and sapphire antique cluster ring. Made with 18 karat white gold, this sparkler features 0.28cts of diamonds and 0.79cts of sapphire.

There is something very classic and timeless about pearls. Imagine your daughter or granddaughter – and then her daughter or granddaughter – getting her diploma or walking down the aisle in these incredible mother of pearl earrings by Doves. Surrounded by 0.21cts of diamonds with 18 karats of yellow gold, these simple treasures can forever be a part of countless memories.

A necklace is also a stunning choice for an heirloom. This one by Doves is made with 18 karat white gold featuring a deep rich green agate and almost 0.50cts of sparkling diamonds. An eye-catching piece like this would definitely spark some conversation, to be the part of great stories to tell over and over again.

Another option is to create a custom piece, or even use jewelry that you already own to create multiple heirlooms for your family. Many of our customers prefer to custom design their jewelry, therefore truly creating one-of-a-kind pieces. We love bringing your visions to life.

You can create an entirely new piece, or restyle an heirloom that has become out-of-date. Regardless of what you choose to do, our jewelers will make the process an enjoyable experience you will never forget. All of our custom work is done right in our Livingston store.

The process of creating your custom piece of jewelry is as exciting as the beautiful finished product. We work closely with you to put your ideas and inspiration to paper or computer, then our skilled jewelers can either hand carve a wax model or create a computerized model with CAD technology. Following your approval, one of our highly trained goldsmiths will cast the piece and spend many days hand setting the gems and perfecting the finish.

Every step is more exciting than the last, and each piece is a labor of love. The time and care given to our custom process is reflected in every finished piece for several generations to enjoy.

An heirloom is a classic and beautiful way to create long lasting traditions, or honor the memories of generations past. We look forward to helping you create pieces unique to your family, or to select something new. Regardless of which decision you make, either will serve as a wonderful way to link the past to both the present and the future.

Making the Diamond Grade – The Four Cs to Diamonds

There is something special about purchasing a piece of diamond jewelry. No matter if it is for yourself or someone you love, your first time or your fifteen, there is a certain kind of excitement that cannot be matched. Whether you are in the market for some new earrings, like these George Press original diamond drop earrings with 4.81cts of fine white, champagne and cognac diamonds, or a new necklace in an antique style with 1.24cts of round brilliant diamonds, it is important to make sure that the piece “makes the grade.”

1 2

The Gemological Institute of America instituted their grading system in the early 1950s to provide jewelers and gemologists a universal scale to evaluate specific qualities of diamonds: color, clarity, carat weight, and cut. Aptly named “The Four Cs,” all four factors are important in determining the final cost of a diamond.

The color of a diamond refers to the relative amount of yellow, brown or gray body color that a stone possesses. The G.I.A. scale starts at “D” and goes through “Z”, with “D” being void of any body color, and “Z” having a light yellow, brown or gray color.

Source: https://thediamond4cs.com/diamond-color/

All of the diamonds used in our highly regarded Gregg Ruth line are F/G in color, such as these incredible diamond drop earrings made with 19 karat white gold and 1.43cts of diamonds, or this equally brilliant matching necklace featuring 1.06cts of sparking diamonds.

4 5

Diamond clarity relates to the existence and visual appearance of internal characteristics called inclusions, and surface defects called blemishes. Practically all diamonds contain naturally occurring inclusions. The number, size, color, relative location, orientation, and visibility can affect the relative clarity of a diamond. The grade is assigned based on the overall appearance of the stone using ten times magnification, based on six categories and eleven grades. The higher the clarity grade, the more valuable diamond.

Minor inclusions or blemishes are actually useful, as they can be used as unique identifying marks like fingerprints. As synthetic diamond technology improves and distinguishing between natural and synthetic diamonds becomes more difficult, inclusions or blemishes can be used as proof of natural origin.

A well-known (and often talked about) quality of diamonds is the carat. However, this is a unit of weight not size, with 5 carats equaling one gram. A fun fact is the name comes from the carob seed – a small seed with a typically uniform weight that early gem traders used as counterweights for balancing their scales.

When figuring out your budget, keep in mind that diamond prices jump at the full- and half-carat weights. Diamonds just below these weights cost significantly less, and because carat weight is distributed across the entirety of the diamond, small size differences are almost impossible to detect. Regardless of what carat size you have in mind, we have a variety of choices to fit almost any budget such as the Shoshana diamond necklace set with 6.04cts of round diamonds for a special night out, or this Marco Bicego drop Siviglia necklace with 18 karat yellow gold and 0.10cts of diamonds for every day.

7 8

Diamonds are renowned for their ability to transmit light and sparkle so intensely. We often think of a diamond’s cut as the shape (round, heart, oval, marquise, pear), but a diamond’s cut grade is really about how well a diamond’s facets interact with light. Of all the diamond 4Cs, the cut is the most complex and technically difficult to analyze. A diamond’s cut has three primary effects on appearance: the brightness (internal and external white light reflected from a diamond), the fire (the scattering of white light into all the colors of the rainbow), and scintillation (the amount of sparkle a diamond produces, and the pattern of light and dark areas caused by reflections within the diamond).

When shopping for your next piece of diamond jewelry, keep in mind that the quality of a diamond’s cut makes all the difference in how the stone appears. A poorly cut flawless stone, can look dead and lifeless, whereas an ideally proportioned diamond of much lower color and clarity will appear radiant and dazzling.

At George Press we take the time to educate our customers on every vital aspect of diamonds to demystify the process. We take the utmost pride in our diamond selection and customer support when it comes to picking out the perfect piece. Our expert Graduate Gemologists and jewelry experts continuously stay up to date with any current technology and are recognized and accredited by all major professional and gemological associations. We always do whatever we can to make sure that you are both happy and 100% comfortable with your selection.

Non-Stop Glamour at the 2017 Country Music Awards

Country music may be well known for its honest storytelling, but at the 2017 Country Music Awards, these singers and songwriters were all about the glam. From shimmering sequins and beads to creative cut outs, it was a red carpet for the books. We of course could not wait to check out what pieces of jewelry the stars chose to complement their stunning gowns, and they did not disappoint.

It seems that as always, unique pieces are glamour’s best friend. This year, it seemed that many stars decided to forgo traditional diamond pieces for other more unexpected stones, and it definitely caught our attention. Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, Brittany Snow, Karen Fairchild; many of the stars and fan favorites from yesterday and today took some risks with their pieces and we liked it. While more understated than other awards shows, it was still hard to spot a country crooner (or their +1) that wasn’t sparkling.

Country music royalty, Reba McEntire kept it edgy with darker colored gems.

You can give your glamorous side an unexpected twist as well with these Shoshana black onyx and diamond earrings. These 18 karat white gold beauties feature faceted black onyx heads with 0.20cts of round diamonds.

Why not channel your own inner superstar with this Honora Black Mother of Pearl Doublet Drop earrings and matching cocktail ring. Both are set in sterling silver and will take you from daytime to date night in no time.

Jessie James Decker also must have gotten the message about the beauty of darker stones for the evening, and you can too with another piece by Honora.

These earrings will give your trusted pearl jewelry some extra style “oomph” with these 7-10MM black, white and gray freshwater cultured pearls. Be sure to wear you hear back just like Mrs. Decker to really showcase their unexpected beauty.

Despite what seemed to be the night’s overall trend of more understated darker stones, Kimberly Williams-Paisley preferred to keep her jewelry more classic with this stunning necklace.

You will feel like you are walking your very own red carpet when wearing this one of a kind piece by George Press. Our delicate, original platinum necklace features 2.83cts of sparkling diamonds and is the perfect excuse for you to get dressed up for a big celebration – star-studded awards show optional! 233-300x300

And speaking of George Press original pieces, while everyone was talking about Pink’s incredible performance during the show, we couldn’t help but oogle her daughter’s look earlier in the evening. What outfit doesn’t go great with a tiara after all?! Maybe it is time for that custom piece you’ve always dreamed about…
(Image credit: PurePeople; Credit: Laura Farr/AdMedia via Zuma Press/Bestimage)

From the incredible parade of fashion down the red carpet, to the evening’s amazing and emotional performances, this year’s Country Music Awards was definitely one to remember. We loved the new spin that many of our favorite stars put on various jewelry pieces. They may sing about heartache, but all our hearts did that night was soar!

38 is Great!

Have you ever noticed that when celebrating anniversaries we tend to pay extra attention to the classic benchmark years that usually end in a 0 or a 5? But what about those years in between? They surely count for just as much. In fact, we think that any excuse is a great one to celebrate a happy occasion! And if you happen to be celebrating your 38th wedding anniversary this month we are here to give you some extra gift inspiration, because you can never revel in the love for your partner too much or too often.

The number 38 is actually very special. Numerologists believe that teamwork, companionship, coexistence, diplomacy, intuition, spirituality, charisma, creative self-expression, tolerance, and inspiration are all aspects of the number 38. It doesn’t seem like such a “regular” number anymore, does it? Thirty-eight is now quite fitting for some additional anniversary celebrations.

If you are looking for a special way to really honor the number 38, this Pave Diamond Bangle by Doves is a great choice. This delicate 18 karat gold pave pendant has the perfect amount of diamonds: 0.38cts.

Another 0.38ct option is this Gabriel & Co Diamond Wedding band. This 14 karat white gold ring will be the perfect addition to her current wedding band set.

If you are looking to go the more traditional route, the gemstone gift for this special year is beryl. The most well-known varieties of this stone are emerald and aquamarine. Pure beryl is colorless, however a wide range of impurities cause a diverse amount of colors and many varieties. Other popular gem varieties of beryl are the pink morganite, yellow heliodor, golden beryl, and an extremely rare deep red variety of beryl, known as red beryl or bixbite.

No matter what your wedding colors might have been there is a variety of beryl to help you celebrate – or you can simply include them all with this attention-getting Shoshana Multi-stone and Diamond necklace.

This stunning 18 karat piece features semi faceted blue aquas, pink morganites, yellow beryls, round sapphires, round green garnets and 2.8cts of fine white, black and cognac diamonds. With this beauty around your neck, it will definitely bring the number 38’s nod to creative self-expression to life!

Or, if blue happened to be one of your wedding colors and you are looking for something more subtle, this Marco Bicego necklace is a great option. This 18 karat gold piece features a stunning dark aquamarine stone, one of the most popular varieties of beryl. This simple piece will make her feel as beautiful as she did on your wedding day.

And speaking of beauty, if the way that you look at her after all these years still makes her blush, these pink morganite earrings will perfectly match the color you bring to cheeks. These elegant 18 karat rose gold earrings designed by Shoshana feature 4.30cts of pear shaped morganites and 0.15cts of round diamonds.

Despite being a “non-benchmark” year, your 38th anniversary is definitely still something to celebrate, and we hope that we were able to give you some unexpected gift inspiration. Whether you choose to go the traditional route with one of our pieces featuring a variety of beryl, or by being a little cheeky and playing up the number 38, we wish you and your loved one a very happy anniversary. We hope that your next 38 years are filled with even more love, laughter and adventure than the first.

Topaz & Citrine: Two Ways to Celebrate November

It may be getting chilly outside, but those celebrating birthdays in November will feel sunny and bright thanks to topaz and citrine, this month’s birthstones. While both of these stones can look similar – and have been mistaken for one another – they are each unique in their own special way (perhaps you know of some November-born twins that can relate…?).

Topaz has an exceptionally wide color range that includes brown, and various tones and saturations of blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. The orange topaz, also known as Precious Topaz, is the traditional November birthstone. Regardless of whether you are drawn to the warm or cool tones, topaz is a lustrous and brilliant gem. With so many color options to choose from, why limit yourself on your birthday?

Perhaps you would like an original piece by us to celebrate. This George Press Topaz and Diamond ring features a topaz stone, framed by 0.58cts of both fine white and black round brilliant diamonds.

Another gorgeous option is a White Gold London Blue Diamond ring by Doves. This piece showcases 18K white gold with a London blue topaz gem, outlined in diamonds.

No matter which topaz ring you choose, either will look stunning on your hand as you sip some birthday champagne.

November’s other birthstone, citrine, is a variety of quartz ranging in colors of yellow, yellow-brown, orange, dark orange-brown, reddish-brown. Its name comes from the Greek word “citron,” because of its similar color to citrus fruit.

This beautiful necklace by Marco Bicego will look delicious around your neck paired with these Murano Citrine earrings. Both by the same renowned designer, the necklace and earrings are made with 18 karat yellow gold showcasing a dazzling citrine stone.

CB1801-QG01-300x300 OB1135-QG01-Y-web-300x300

In ancient cultures citrine was called the “stone of the mind.” Healers believed it had the power to promote clarity of thought, open your mind and increase someone’s psychic power. With that kind of reputation perhaps you should pick up a pair of these cufflinks by Alor for your husband to wear the next time he picks his lotto numbers – bonus points if he is celebrating a November birthday!

Both pairs of these lucky cufflinks are made with 20mm stainless steel cable surrounding a citrine stone.

Regardless of whether you choose topaz or citrine to celebrate November, both stones are fairly abundant and affordably priced, even in large sizes, which means everyone can find a way to fit topaz and citrine into their budget.

Playing Dress Up for Halloween Like a Grown Up

Halloween is one of the oldest holidays with origins going back thousands of years, and is a time of celebration and superstition. It straddles the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, and it is a holiday that people of all ages look forward to.

There has always been something special and magical about Halloween. It gives everyone the chance to feel young again with a certain feeling of excitement in the air that is unique to this fun-filled holiday.

When you were little you probably loved to play dress-up. Maybe you were a princess, or perhaps a super-hero. If not, maybe a rockstar or the “it” Disney character at the time. Those costumes are probably long gone by now (or perhaps passed down to other children in your life), but with Halloween right around the corner, who says that you can’t get in on the fun too?

If you loved the princess Rapunzel when you were little (or still today!), you probably have a soft spot for her loveable pet chameleon, Pascal.

If so, you will love the chameleon pendant, bracelet and ring from Belle Etoile Jewelry. Each are hand-painted green and multi-colored Italian enamels with olive, amethyst, aquamarine and ruby stones set into rhodium-plated, nickel allergy-free, 925 sterling silver.

image3 image4 image5

Pair these pieces with an extra-long wig – and poof! – you are Rapunzel all grown up.

Or perhaps one year you dressed up as Wonder Woman. With a unique bangle from Alor you can channel your inner Amazonian princess with your very own version of Wonder Woman’s golden lasso.

This imported 18 karat yellow gold and and rose gold cable bangle with stainless steel would make all the other members of the Justine League jealous.

Spooky superstitions tend to carry more weight on this night. Did you know that the reason we light up our jack-o-lanterns on to Halloween is to evil spirits and demons at bay? (And to make a clear path to the candy of course). Everyone around you will light up when they see this stunning necklace from Marco Bicego’s Jaipur Collection. This 18 karat yellow gold necklace features gorgeous multicolored gemstones that will be sure to chase away any darkness that tries to cross your path.

When Halloween first began hundreds of years ago it was for the celebration of the New Year, after all of the crops were harvested and stored for the winter. It marked the end of the “season of the sun” and the beginning of “the season of darkness and cold.” In fact, that is where the traditional Halloween colors come from: orange and black. The orange represents the autumn harvest season, while the black represents the mark the “death” of summer.

If you are feeling extra festive this Halloween season you can celebrate both with these ghost-stopping and breathtaking Shoshana Mexican Fire Opal and Diamond drop earrings. Aptly featuring the orange and black colors these 18 karat gold Shoshana earrings feature diversely shaped Mexican fire Opals, and are accented by four black natural horns, two ruby beads, and 2.41cts of round diamonds.

Regardless of what you plan to dress up as, or how much candy you are looking forward to handing out (or keeping for yourself!), best wishes to all for a safe and Happy Halloween.

Dress for Success – with Sapphires!

Right below diamonds, the most precious gemstones are the “Big 3” – emeralds, rubies and sapphires. Of course there are other rarities that qualify for this list, but those 3 are the ones most widely known to be precious, and most frequently displayed in Crown Jewels and other prestigious collections of valuable jewels.

If gems had personalities, the big 3 would probably be something like this: Rubies would be fiery and passionate, perhaps a little narcissistic (deservedly so) and not inclined to worry about the little things. Emeralds would be exotic and eclectic, interested in adventure and the arts, a bit sulky on occasion and unapologetic about it. Sapphires, on the other hand, would be smart and sophisticated, perennially neat and tidy, well-dressed at all times, confident and just a bit aloof. Perfect in all ways for those who are looking to dress for success.

Good news for those born in September – sapphires, a variety of the mineral corundum, are readily available in a wide range of colors, from white – often used as a substitute for diamonds – to orange, yellow, green and even black. If they are red they are rubies! The rarest and most expensive color is the pink-orange padparadscha which comes from Sri Lanka. Different colored sapphires can be tailored to different moods, for example, look at these pink ones.

Pretty in Pink

Valentine's Day, Pink Sapphire, Earrings, Flower Earrings

As fresh as a spring morning, these Pink Sapphire and Freshwater Pearl Earrings brim with cheerful spirits. Perfect for day through evening, and featuring 0.70 cts of beautiful pink sapphires, they will reflect the sunny side of your personality.

A Tisket, A Tasket

Talk about neat and tidy, just look at the gorgeous wavy 18 karat white gold setting of this Diamond and Sapphire Ring from Gregg Ruth’s Espris Collection.  Reminiscent of a basket, it blooms with 0.88cts of round diamonds encasing bright blue sapphires. This ring projects a passion for orderliness and enjoyment of beautiful design.

Corundum Compass

North, east, south and west, 1.54cts of brilliant blue sapphires point the way to all four corners of the globe in this Gregg Ruth Sapphire and Diamond Necklace. Set in 18 karat white gold with 0.23cts of diamonds, with this sophisticated charmer, you will have the determination and perseverance to find your way to success.

Wearing the right jewelry can give you a real advantage. For modern women, sapphire is a perfect choice to project the best image. Borrow the look from September and let sapphires work for you all year long!

A Little Something for Back to School

Bittersweet September, summer is ending and children are heading back to school. Their faces range from reluctant to excited, as they look forward to making friends and learning new things. Kindergarteners are especially nervous, surrounded by parents, and even grandparents, as they venture off into new beginnings.

School is probably the most important thing they can do in their early lives. It is, essentially, their job. Going back to school, a new grade, a new teacher, new classmates, is a big deal for children. Now is the time to show them that you agree. Wish them well and acknowledge the importance of their duties with a little gift. Something they can look at during the day and know how much you love and care about them.

Shining Star

Children's Diamond Star of David Pendant

She’s your shining star, isn’t she? Let everyone know how important she is to you with this Children’s Diamond Star of David Pendant. Shimmering in 14 karat white gold embedded with .45cts of brilliant diamonds, this necklace will leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that your child is a special treasure. A personage, if you will. Not that teachers should show her special attention… well maybe not all the time. Just most of the time, right?

What’s in a Name?

Children's ID Pink Heart Bracelet

You’ve written her name on her backpack, her shoes, her coat, her books, basically on just about everything she brings to school.  Now it’s time to write it one more place, and this Children’s ID Pink Heart Bracelet is just the spot. What little girl wouldn’t feel delighted to wear this charming identity bracelet on her first day of school? What a special memory! What a wonderful keepsake!  You’re already feeling the love, why not show it to the rest of the world? Cuter than cute, she will feel like a princess for sure. And that’s a wonderful feeling!

Warding Off the Evil Eye

George Press Jewelers introduces Children's Jewelry Evil Eye Mother of Pearl Children’s Bracelet

Are you superstitious? Do you believe in the evil eye? If so, you have lots of company. Expressions for “evil eye” can be found in many languages including Hebrew, Turkish, Italian, Farsi, Spanish, French and German, to name a few! Maybe you’re not sure? Well, why not hedge your bets and opt for some 14 karat yellow gold “protection” with mother of pearl evil eye charms. We can’t prove it will help, but it probably can’t hurt! In any event, it’s a charming symbol of parents’ desires to protect their children. (And it can’t hurt.)

Helicopter Necklace

Did your child experience something special this summer? A new pet? A camp BFF? Did she go somewhere special? Give her a chance to show and tell with this Scroll Gate Locket from Monica Rich Kosann. Set in sterling silver with white sapphires, this locket accommodates two parents, I mean pictures. Or parents. (Wink, wink.)

Whatever route you choose, it will let them know that this day is as special to you as it is to them. Give them a hug they can feel all day, every day.

Labor Day – A Last Hurrah for Summer!

September 4th signals the end of summer with a celebration of America’s workforce – Labor Day. Although the very first Labor Day actually took place on a Tuesday in 1882, the first Monday in September has been its official designation since 1884. It is a historically significant recognition of the labor movement, and honors the contributions workers have made to our country’s success.

Now some of us will be hitting the sales that seem to spring up for every occasion these days. But many of us will be saying goodbye to summer with a bon voyage celebration of some sort. Festive parties, picnics and parades, decked in red, white and blue. Or one last chance to wear white without wondering if it’s okay. (It is.)

On that note we have chosen some pieces that capture this party perfect mood. Pieces that say summer is forever, because sometimes denial is the only way to go.

Bring Your Own Sunshine

This perennially cheerful Yellow Cable Bracelet from Alor is just the ticket for Labor Day, and beyond. Sunny and golden, with a nautical tinge, from the Classique collection, it is just that, classic. Yellow cable, 18 karat white gold and diamonds combine to light up the room like a radiant nimbus. Don’t put up a tent in case of rain, just wear this!

White After Labor Day

Wearing white after Labor Day is supposed to be okay now. Not a fashion faux pas at all. Or so they say. But some of us will continue to be uncomfortable in our flowy white dresses after September is underway. Thankfully, Marco Bicego has sent us an elegant solution to this quandary.

George Press Jewelers features Marco Bicego's Yellow Gold Mother of Pearl Earrings

These Yellow Gold Mother of Pearl Earrings from the Lunaria collection are just the trick! Set in 18 karat yellow gold, luminescent mother of pearl drops glow equally by day or night. As perfect with a chic suit in the fall, a silk holiday dress in winter, or jeans in the spring, as they are with your Labor Day finest. You will be drawn back to these soft, smooth earrings again and again.

A Summer Place

Did you make precious memories this summer? We hope so! What better place to store them, than in this Lacy Locket Necklace from Monica Rich Kosann. In 18 karat yellow gold, this elegant locket holds three photos and has diamond accents. Keep your special treasures close at hand and heart. Summers are fleeting, but lockets are forever!

The Squeaky Wheel

Its Labor Day, and boy have you labored! Whether you’ve been employed outside the home or working away as a mother or wife, the “fun” just never stops. Whatever we put our minds and bodies to, it’s surely work of some sort. Business demands, hostessing, running after little ones, chauffeuring, organizing, etc., etc., an ice cream cone just isn’t gonna cut it this year. We want more! Unionize and negotiate your demands. Start high. We suggest beginning with this amazing Asher Diamond Bangle from Gregg Ruth! With 3.28cts of Asher cut diamonds set in 18 karat white gold, it will meet all your requirements. After all, to the squeaky wheel goes the grease!

The End of Summer Blues

White Gold Blue Topaz Earrings

If you were going to write a blues song about the end of summer, how would it go? BAH da da da  DUM…went down to the seashore, Chablis in my hand, sat down in a lounge chair…spilled it all in the sand!!! So sad. Yes, the end of summer is a sad, sad, time. But take comfort. You’re not the only one that’s blue, we are all just barely keeping our tears to ourselves.

We say, wear your blues proudly! Yes, summer is over, but we will find solace in the rest of the year. We can also find solace in these White Gold Blue Topaz Earrings from Dove’s London Blue Collection. Sultry, smoky London Blue adds sophistication and poise to these square drop earrings outlined in diamonds. You will hold your head high in these, as you master your emotions and raise a farewell toast to Summer 2017.

Labor Day, a celebration of American workers that just happens to come at a very poignant time of year. It’s a mix of pride, patriotism and emotion, as we return to business as usual. Take comfort in knowing that eventually the year will wind its way around to summer again. Cheers!

Emeralds – May’s Spring Green Birthstone

Spring is here and all around us vivid colors are replacing the browns and greys of winter. It’s safe to say that the most predominant color is bright, bold green. So, what better birthstone for this time than the magnificent, precious emerald!

emerald birthstone

Emerald is a variety of the mineral Beryl. It presents in all different shades of green with the deeper shades being more valuable. If the color is too light, it may be classified as a green beryl. The green color is caused by trace amounts of chromium or vanadium.

Clarity is the second most important feature of emeralds, with a high degree of transparency being more desirable, because emeralds tend to have inclusions and fissures. These imperfections are sometimes referred to as “Jardin,” “garden” in French because they resemble garden moss. Emerald is one of four precious gemstones, the others being diamonds, sapphires and rubies.

Columbia is the largest producer of emeralds, and a rare type of emerald with dark spokes caused by inclusions, called “trapiche,” is also found there. The second largest producer is Zambia. Lesser quantities of emeralds have also been found in many other countries, including the United States, where they have been discovered in Connecticut, the Carolinas, Nevada and Montana.

Emeralds were mined in ancient Egypt, and Cleopatra was a particular fan of the gemstone, laying claim to all the emerald mines in her country. Spanish conquistadors also coveted the stones, bringing many back from South America.  Emeralds are said to be a symbol of new beginnings, loyalty and peace. The ancient Romans dedicated emeralds to Venus, known as the goddess of love and beauty.

Elizabeth Taylor had a famous set of emeralds and diamonds, a gift from her husband, Richard Burton, which has been valued at about 100 million dollars. Angelina Jolie favors them also, and has 115-carat double drop emerald earrings and a 65-carat emerald ring.

Various royals also have famous emerald pieces, including a German emerald and diamond tiara, an Indian necklace, and a Belgian necklace.  Several pieces in the British Crown Jewels also are emerald-centered, including the Grand Duchess Vladimir Emerald Tiara, named for the aunt of Tsar Nicolas II and subsequently acquired by Queen Mary in 1921. Queen Mary was also given the Delhi Durbar Emerald Necklace, a gift from the Maharaja of Patiala, India.

Obviously, emeralds were, and are, prized by many important people throughout history. Their brilliant green color is captivating. Spring is also lovely, with its bright green grass and leaves. But you can’t wear lawn clippings! So, bring a bit of emerald green into your life that you can wear all year round, and have a little piece of spring to calm your soul.

The Joys of Custom Jewelry

George Press loves to create. Whether he finds inspiration in a particular gem or a design that no one else makes, he has the talent to produce gorgeous pieces of custom-designed fine jewelry that aren’t available anywhere else. A graduate of the Pratt Institute, he has won the Best of Essex Award of Best Custom Jeweler numerous times. George has the skills and ability to bring his dreams to reality. Aren’t we lucky to have such wonderful talent available to us!

Tropical Treasure

Let’s take a look at some of George’s recent pieces and see if we can guess what the inspiration was behind them.  One of our favorites is this George Press South Sea Pearl and Diamond Ring.

George Press South Sea Pearl and Diamond Ring

The inspiration here is obvious, it has to be that glowing golden orb of a south sea pearl.  It’s unblemished sheen reflected by the 18 karat yellow gold envelope that has taken the place of its mother shell.  The finish to this fantasy?  A sprinkling of diamonds frosting the edges. Can you think of a more perfect setting for this gift from the sea?

Heavenly Necklace

Here’s another piece to consider.  In this case, it would appear that the setting design is the inspiration.  Part celestial body, like a sun or a star, and part compass, it sets the course for a journey to the depths of your imagination.  Hand-crafted in precious platinum with 2.83cts of sparkling diamonds, imagine how this looks against a woman’s velvety skin.  The different diamond cuts add intrigue and flair.  This is not a necklace you can get in any jewelry store, it’s only the best, from George Press.

All Things Classical

Whimsical yet serious, this ring is a musical masterpiece of design and fine arts materials. Looking at it, one would think that George was inspired by a fine piece of classical music, like Chopin’s Spring Waltz or Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The classical scrolls of the setting bring to mind the artistry of carved moldings from great estates, and the gentle, generous curves are Rubenesque in nature.  Above all that, sitting like a queen on a throne is a beautifully cut topaz framed in black diamonds and accented by white ones.

This was fun, but as you know, we are only guessing as to what goes on in the mind of George Press.  If you really want to know, you’ll have to come in and ask!  While you’re here, take a look at our selection of custom jewelry and see if one of the pieces speaks to you.  Or talk to George about designing your own bespoke piece, then he can tell everyone how you inspired him!

Moonlight Shines Over La La Land – Oscars Jewelry Lights Up the Night

Celebrities are not known for their subtlety, generally speaking, and this year’s Oscars were no exception.  Ruth Negga showed up with a ruby “crown” and earrings to complement her red Valentino gown. Charlize Theron wore diamond Chopard doorknockers on her ears, (they would have crushed a lesser woman.) Even Jennifer Aniston amped it up with 100ct emerald cut graduated diamond earrings worth $9.5 million.

Alas, most of us were not invited to the Oscars this year.  We, unfortunately, had a previous engagement and could not attend. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t occasionally have “Oscars” in our own lives. Maybe it’s an important gallery opening or corporate event.  Or maybe it’s a special wedding, your own – or someone you love very much.  There are always excuses to glam things up a bit and we are here to help!

Bling Around the Collar

As we’ve been saying, colored stones are making a strong comeback and so are collar length diamond necklaces.  This Antique Diamond and Sapphire Necklace combines the best of both worlds, in a charming vintage setting that is also the height of fashion. You can’t beat 11.63cts of round diamonds and 4.50cts of beautiful blue sapphires set in platinum for star power!

Oscars jewelry resembles George Press Antique Diamond and Sapphire Necklace

Or, for the diamond purist, how about this Asher Fancy Link Diamond Necklace from Gregg Ruth? This 18 karat white gold necklace features 6.60cts of sparkling diamonds for your wearing pleasure.  Stunning, just stunning!

The Asher Fancy Link Diamond Necklace from Gregg Ruth resembles jewelry from the Oscars

Bangles and Cuffs

Bangles and cuffs continued to rock the red carpet too. Priyanka Chopka wore elegant platinum and diamond cuffs on each wrist and the effect was sensational with her sleeveless, geometric dress. Halle Berry stacked diamond bangles with her own sleeveless, body-hugging gown.  The nicest thing about this look is that it can be worn with so many different types of outfits.  Stack diamond bangles with your jeans and a favorite shirt, wear them to the office or on an evening out.  You never have to take them off!  We have so many different diamond bangles to choose from.  You can create your own unique combinations.

A Flex Forte Bezel Diamond Dust Bangle makes a great starter in 18K white gold with round diamonds.

Or this Doves 18K White Gold Diamond Bangle. Or both!

If you want a more cuff-like look, try this George Press Three Row Overlapping Diamond Bangle in 18K white gold with 2.21cts of shimmering diamonds.  Imagine how gorgeous it would look to put one on each wrist! Mind…Blown!

This George Press Three Row Overlapping Diamond Bangle is a custom piece from George Press Jewelers that looks like jewelry from the Oscars

Of course, there were plenty of spectacular earrings at the Oscars too, long danglers and ear climbers and all of the trends we have been discussing here in our blog.  We hope you’ve had the opportunity to wear some of these looks. Remember, you are the star of your own life.  Whether it’s a rom-com, a drama or an adventure movie, live it to the fullest and celebrate each and every day!

Everything’s Coming Up Rose Gold!

Rose gold (one of the year’s most popular trends) is showing especially strong for spring. It makes sense when you think about spring’s traditional pastel color palette.  Not to mention the influx of pink clothing, accessories and home items being offered by designers.  We also think people are embracing the warm, romantic tone of rose gold and the way it flatters every skin tone.

Have you added some rose gold items to your jewelry wardrobe lately?  You may be surprised how much you enjoy it.  This Lady’s Alor Rose Gold Ring has a lot going for it. Its squared shape and carved 18 karat rose gold are fresh and wonderful, like cherry blossoms opening on bare winter branches.

So beautiful you can’t even bear to cut it, but leave it as the crown jewel of your garden for everyone to enjoy.

Beautiful Dilemma

When is a rose not a rose? When it’s this enchanting Diamond and Pearl Bypass Bangle, of course.  Cream and Pink South Sea Tahitian Pearls vie for top honors in this Lady’s Rose Gold Bypass Bangle, set with round diamonds.  It reminds us of that old fairy tale about two beautiful sisters, Snow White and Rose Red. Which would you choose?

Precious Palmera Frond

From Hera, this Palmera Diamond Leaf Pendant in sterling silver and rose gold with diamonds, is perfect for spring and summer. The lacy two-tone leaf is highlighted by “veins” of rose gold set with 0.40cts of diamonds.  This necklace is a tribute to nature at its finest and is sure to capture the eye with its subtle uniqueness.

Sweet and Innocent

Last, but not least, this Doves Customizable Initial Pendant in 18K rose gold with white topaz and diamonds is an instant charmer.  With the cozy chic feeling of a cottage climber rose, it’s a sweet and innocent throwback to soft, summer breezes and the lure of country meadows waiting to be explored.  Personalized charms, like lockets, are on the verge of making a big comeback, with sentimentality on the rise. We love the smooth, seed-like shape of it and the way it falls from the chain in a string of diamond water drops.

Doves Rose Gold Custom Pendant

Spring is just around the corner, believe it or not. It’s time to tend to your own personal garden and get ready to bloom! Plant some seeds, add water and a little rose gold, and get ready for first prize at the Flower Show. And when they award you the Rose Gold Trowel, don’t forget to mention us!

Great Jewelry Stands Tall at the SAG Awards

In keeping with this season of celebrity prominence, the 2017 SAG (Screen Actors Guild Awards) took place last week at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.  In typical fashion, we at George Press took a good long look…at their jewelry!  Say what you want about awards shows, whether you find them glamorous, fascinating or annoying, they are usually great harbingers for the season’s upcoming fashions, both clothing and jewelry.

We were not disappointed.  The jewelry this year was nothing short of flamboyant.  If we were bird watching, we would have been seeing eagles, flamingos, toucans and more! We did spot some consistent trends and a couple of new ones we’d like to applaud.

Bringing Back “Suite” Jewels

First shout out goes to Amy Adams! Amy was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead in “Arrival.”  Unfortunately, she didn’t win.  But she wins our award for breaking the unwritten rule of nothing matches anymore.  Amy shone in a suite of Cartier jewels, bracelet, earrings and choker featuring blooms of aquamarines, sapphires and diamonds.  The effect was breathtaking and it matched!  All of it!  Fresh blue color, exquisite form, we thought it had the most impact on the runway, and we hope it earmarks an upcoming trend.

We have exciting matching jewelry at George Press, too.  For example, Ivanka Trump also matches in blue with her Patras Aquamarine collection.  Elongated aquamarines set in 18K white gold and diamonds are sophisticated and oh so beautiful.  One makes an impact by itself, but both pieces together have a powerful presence.  Why wear only a little of something you love, when you can wear your heart on your sleeve?

White Collar Jobs

As we said, we do love our diamonds though, and again we were not disappointed.  Kudos to Viola Davis on her outstanding “fringed” diamond collar necklace. It was a shining star in the crowd. We also cheered Kirsten Dunst and Dascha Polanco for layering diamond collar necklaces. Kirsten combined an elaborate fringed diamond necklace with a simple strand of beautiful stones, while Dascha wore three, a tassel, a necklace of diamond “florets” and a strand of larger diamonds.

We think this George Press Diamond Necklace would make a great fashion find for some lucky ingenue. Whether worn alone or in a layering scenario, this 18k white gold scalloped necklace features 2.06 cts of diamonds in an enchanting feminine setting, custom designed and created by George Press.

SAG Awards

Here’s to the Ears!

Of course, the ubiquitous statement earring was, by definition, everywhere, at the SAGS.  Sophia Vergara won the category for boldest with her blazing diamond “wing” earrings, closely followed by Sarah Paulson in diamond wreath earrings.  Diamond drop earrings were also much in evidence, thanks Natalie Portman and Ellie Kemper, and diamonds in general sparkled on notables like Evan Rachel Wood, Amanda Peet and Sophia Bush.

Make a statement yourself with earrings like these Gregg Ruth Diamond Drops with 1.43cts of diamonds set in 18K white gold.

Gregg Ruth Diamond Drop Earrings

Or better yet, steal the category with these custom-made George Press Diamond Drop Floral Earrings. Forget about a SAG trophy, these 18K white gold drop earrings with 7.28cts of sparkling diamonds will be all the trophy you need!

We wonder how many of you watched the SAG awards this year.  Did you notice any of the celebrities’ jewels?  How about the fashions?  Nicole Kidman’s green bird dress, yea? Or nay? Drop us a line on Facebook and let us know what you were thinking during the show.  We’d love to hear from you!

To Choker or Not to Choker – That Is the Question

When it comes to chokers, people are strongly divided.  Some love them, some hate them, but no matter how you feel, you can’t deny that they are hot, hot, hot, right now. Chokers are one of the few necklaces that should be selected with some thought.  First and foremost, consider your comfort.  A choker should fit just right.  Too loose and it will slide down your neck.  Too tight, and the discomfort will drive you nuts.  Look for one that has flexible styling, such as chain links or ties that can be adjusted to your needs. A well-fitting choker should rest about one inch above your collar bone.

Consider also the shape of your neck.  Is it short? Then opt for thinner chokers.  Is it long? Then go as wide as you like, or even stack one or two thinner chokers with a wider one. Chokers can also be a woman’s best friend for camouflaging lines on the neck or small scars.

Although chokers have been trickling onto the fashion landscape for a while now, if you watched the Golden Globe awards on January 8, 2017, you saw chokers being born into the full glamour spotlight on the red carpet.

Boho Chic

Michelle Williams (nominated for Best Supporting Actress for “Manchester By the Sea”) wore a simple black strand tied choker style around her neck.  A little too simple, if you ask us.  We far prefer this semi-casual choker style offered by Alor in silver, gold, or black stainless steel cable with 18K white gold and round diamonds. It adds just the right Bohemian touch to so many outfits while still looking chic.

The Big, the Bold, and the Bling!

Diamond chokers were also a big hit at the Golden Globes. Reese Witherspoon (2006 Best Actress- “Walk the Line”) rocked a yellow gold and diamond choker, while Emma Stone (2017 Best Actress- “La La Land”) opted for a gorgeous Victorian style diamond choker with pendant, created by Tiffany & Co. in 1909. We have some wonderful red carpet contenders at George Press that could easily go toe-to-toe with their selections.  For example, this Gregg Ruth Asher Fancy Link Diamond Necklace is breathtaking in 18K White Gold and 6.60cts of sparkling diamonds.

Feminine Flair

Nicole Kidman, (nominated for Best Supporting Actress in “Lion”) selected a two- strand, 48 carat diamond choker necklace to complement her gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown at the Golden Globes. Always the epitome of taste and elegance, Nicole previously wore an antique amethyst and diamond riviere choker to the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 2.  With her love of soft feminine colors and motifs, we think she would find much to appreciate about this Diamond and Pink Sapphire Choker in 18K white gold. Delicate pink sapphire studded flowers dance elegantly around a white gold “vine” with diamond accents. A fitting ornament for a star.

A Choker for Every Woman

Shout out to Ivanka Trump for her stylish Rock Crystal Necklace interpretation of the choker.  Modern as can be in 18K rose gold with a center rock crystal, it is a versatile necklace that dresses up or down and goes from day to evening with ease.  We love the rose gold touch which warms up and highlights the sparkly rock crystal.  This look jazzes things up in a subtle way, while still looking cool and effortless.

So don’t fear the choker ladies, it doesn’t have to keep you on a leash.  Master the art of finding the style that suits you best and you’ll be able to enter a new and happy relationship with fun and fashionable chokers!

Stargazing – The 2017 Golden Globe Awards

Take a golden globe, wrap it in a filmstrip, put it on a marble base, and you’ve got the quintessential element for a night of Hollywood stargazing and fashion trend-spotting!

The Golden Globe awards took place on Sunday, January 8, with all the aplomb, speculation and downright gossip these events can muster. Beautiful actresses, handsome leading men, gorgeous gowns, and of course, the best jewelry that money can buy (or that can be loaned gratis to important celebrities!)

This year was no exception. If you ask us, the jewelry outshone the gowns, if not the lovely ladies. Even a casual observer would have noticed several trends either emerging or being confirmed.

Leave the Cuffs on!

One of the more obvious stylings was the presence of big, bold cuffs.  Kristen Wiig wore a polished gold Chanel cuff and Ruth Negga also chose a gold cuff with a large ruby. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ cuff was slathered in diamonds.  But the award goes to Blake Lively and her matching emerald and diamond-bedecked cuffs that added a superhero touch to her black and metallic gown.

Thinking about trying this twice-as-nice trend?  Let us suggest a pair of these Alor Petra Diamond and Brown Stingray Cuffs. 18 karat gold and stainless steel cuffs with brown stingray and colored and white diamonds are sleek and sophisticated, especially when paired.  Imagine these with a beautiful cashmere sweater, or enhancing your slender wrists in a sleeveless dress. Tap them together and let the magic happen!

Stingray Alor Brown

Rings on Her Fingers…

Tracee Ellis Ross of “Blackish” fame fluttered her fingers for the camera all night to flaunt her diamond-laden hands.  Twelve rings, ten fingers, she took it to the extreme!  But she was far from the only celebrity wearing multiple rings, mostly of the diamond variety.  Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore and Janelle Monae were also caught red-handed with bling fingers.

Thinking of giving your wedding ring a little companionship? How about this Karina Cluster Ring from Gregg Ruth? Featuring 1.27cts of diamonds in 18K white gold, this sparkler will attract all the paparazzi!  Feeling like a star?  Go ahead, add another. This White Gold and Stainless Steel Fashion Ring from Alor fills the bill easily!

Lady’s Alor White Gold and Stainless Steel Fashion Ring

The Ears Have It

Some trends are holding firm.  Sienna Miller wore simple pearls, Emma Stone a diamond pendant necklace, and of course, statement earrings are still going strong.  Whether cuffs or chandelier, cascades or studs, large diamond earrings were very much in evidence throughout the night. Natalie Portman, Sophia Vergara, Anna Kendrick, and Lily Collins were just a few to claim this award.  Here at George Press, we have given the diamond earring award to these South Sea Pearl and Diamond Earrings, featuring South Sea pearls and 3.46cts of diamonds set in platinum for a truly opulent experience.

Also tied for first place are these gorgeous 18K Yellow Gold Diamond Satin Earrings from Doves. Contemporary styling gives these dazzlers a fresh twist that is sure to draw attention from fans and rivals alike!

Yellow Gold Diamond Satin Earrings

The Night’s Hottest Trend

Finally, we wouldn’t be your trusted jewelry fashion advisor if we didn’t point out the night’s most newsworthy trend.  That’s right, the choker stole the show.  Love them?  Hate them? More on that later.  For now, the list of choker wearers looks something like this- Emma Stone, Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and more.  Emma Stone wore a vintage 1909 Tiffany & Co. diamond choker with feminine Victorian styling.  We think this one from our Estate Collection is equally beautiful. 9.5cts of diamonds are stunning in a vintage platinum setting, proving that true classics are always in style.

Now that you have the inside skinny, you better get started on your acceptance speech. We think you might be up for a lifetime achievement award for always being the most stylish person in the room. Try to keep it under two minutes or we will play the award theme music. If that doesn’t work, we might have to ask George Clooney to escort you offstage. Wait…that might not be so terrible after all….

Pantone Unveils 10 Colors to Watch for Spring 2017 – And So Do We!

September is the time for fashion weeks worldwide.  London debuted on Sept. 16–20, New York on Sept. 21-27 and Paris right behind them on Sept. 27-Oct. 5. Most people watch these shows and oooh and aaaah over the amazing clothes, but the experts at the Pantone Color Institute have a job to do. Once again, they have chosen New York Fashion Week to announce the top 10 colors that will grace homes and closets in Spring 2017.

Making the selections are a group of color experts from around the world. These experts track global color trends and evaluate their usage in upcoming fashion collections. The colors are assigned a name and a color code, so designers can order a variety of goods, like shoe, purses, towels and dishes, all in the same colors.

The colors selected for 2016 were Buttercup Yellow, Fiesta Red, Green Flash, Iced Coffee, Lilac Grey (loved it!), Limpet Shell Blue, Peach Echo, Rose Quartz, Serenity Blue and Snorkel Blue.  You must have seen these colors when you were out and about shopping this year.

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the colors of Spring 2017!

This time there are three blues, Lapis Blue, Niagra and Island Paradise.  As you would assume, Lapis Blue is the deep vibrant color of the semi-precious stone, lapis lazuli.  A color also frequently found in sapphires, Lapis Blue is wonderfully represented in this Gregg Ruth Espris Collection Diamond and Sapphire Ring. This 18 karat white gold ring is on point with 0.88cts of round diamonds and bright blue sapphires to die for.

Look to this picture of beloved designer Marco Bicego’s Topaz Delicati Necklace for an example of Niagra blue. It’s been described as looking like a worn pair of jeans, but we think the darker mid-tone blue with grey influence mimics the cold running waters of a northern river. Hmm, Niagara/Niagra, one wonders….

The third blue in this lineup is lovely Island Paradise. The color of glacier ice or tropical light turquoise waters, we are torn between “Frozen” and beaches for a description.  Let these Patras Aquamarine Earrings from Ivanka Trump do it for us. Stunning aquamarines almost the color in question are surrounded by 0.75cts of diamonds in 18 karat white gold settings.  Thanks for settling that one, Ivanka!

Next up we have sunny Primrose Yellow. More lemony than last year’s Buttercup, this color, like the Primrose itself, is a harbinger of Spring. Again, we turn to designer Gregg Ruth for a shining example in this Yellow Diamond Pendant consisting of 18 karat white and yellow gold, accompanied by 0.53cts of white and yellow diamonds.

Greenery is always a nice highlight in any bouquet.  The same is true of this natural color selection. Greenery is more organic and mossy than last year’s Green Flash. It works amazingly well with most of the other color selections.  As an example, look at the green of this vibrant tourmaline available in Marco Bicego’s 18 karat hand-engraved yellow gold Jaipur Ring.

Oddly enough, another one of Bicego’s stackable Jaipur rings features a splashy pink tourmaline that mirrors Pink Yarrow, another 2017 color. Stack them together for double fashion impact!

If you prefer a gentler pink, you are sure to be a fan of Pink Dogwood – and we have the perfect bracelet for you! As refined and elegant as you are, these Cream and Pink South Sea Tahitian Pearls find a worthy setting in the diamond and 18 karat rose gold of this bypass bangle. Button up your twin set or pick your favorite little black dress, slip on this Diamond and Pearl Bypass Bangle and you are good to go – anywhere!

Things heat up with Flame, the next color on the list, which, as you might expect, is a bright fiery orange. Also inspired by nature, the second green, Kale, is a color most closely exemplified by the band and dial of this Victorinox Swiss Army Men’s Inox watch. With luminous accents, date window and logo, this watch is water resistant to 200 meters and comes with a three-year limited warranty.

Last but not least, Pantone gives us Hazelnut.  A splendid neutral with warm flesh tones, Hazelnut and rose gold are a natural pairing. This Bertolucci Women’s Diamond Serena Garbo watch is the perfect example. Stainless steel and rose gold work beautifully together with 180 diamonds and a curved crystal with antireflective treatment. If Hazelnut were a metal, it would be this shade of rose gold.

So there you have it, the Pantone 2017 lineup of fashionable colors.  We know that we’ve already picked our favorites, how about you?  Keep an eye out and be a color detective this year. See how many of these shades you can spot in your favorite stores. Strut your fashionista knowledge like a model on the catwalk. Meanwhile, if you find something you love in one of these new hues, remember, we’ve got the perfect accessories!

Isn’t Ballerina Ring just the perfect name for this delightful concoction?  A “tutu” of 3.10cts of baguette diamonds is enchanting enough, but place a glowing 2.62ct Burmese Ruby in the center and the effect becomes magical.  Per carat, high quality Burmese rubies have been the most expensive gems in the world. Due to trade bans, Burmese rubies are not currently available for import.  George Press is lucky enough to be able to offer this wonderful example in its estate collection. You won’t find this ring at the mall!

Bulgari Cabochon Garnet Ring

Bulgari Cabochon Garnet Ring

The Bulgari story is quite fascinating. Greek jeweler, Sotirios Boulgaris opened his first jewelry store in the mid 1880’s. In 1884, he founded a jewelry business in Rome. His current flagship store still operates in the Via Condotti, opened in 1905 with the help of his two sons Constantino and Giorgio. Constantino Bulgari and his wife, Laura, hid three Jewish women in their Roman home during World War II and in 2003, they were awarded the title of Righteous among the Nations at Yad Veshem in Jerusalem. Later generations of Bulgaris opened locations in Geneva, New York, Monte-Carlo and Paris. The business was subsequently acquired by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA.

This retro Bulgari Ring in 18 karat yellow gold with a cabochon garnet displays many of the characteristics for which Bulgari is known. Rounded forms and generous displays of colored stones in unique formats.  Look how seamlessly the cabochon garnet fits into the rounded sides of the setting. Truly a work of art from a high end design house.

Sapphire and Diamond Knot Earrings

Sapphire and Diamond Knot Earrings

Looking to put a splash of color into your Lifetime Collection? These Sapphire and Diamond Knot Earrings may be just what you’re looking for!

A mix of 18 karat white, yellow and rose gold showcase pink and yellow sapphires and 0.45cts of round diamonds.  Mixed metals is one of the hottest trends going right now, and these beautifully colored stones really lend pizzazz to these timeless knots. Talk about value, these vibrant earrings are just waiting to be scooped up by some eager treasure hunter!

Remember, the George Press Estate Collection has a reputation for carrying high- caliber quality pieces that tell their own stories.  Whether it’s hard-to-find gemstones, a priceless pedigree or exacting craftsmanship, these pieces are desirable in their own right and often fly out of the store in a short time period.  Take the opportunity to add some depth and character to your lifetime collection by investing in one of these timeless treasures.

Bare Beauty, Forsaking Stones for Masterful Craftmanship

Not every occasion calls for emeralds, sapphires and rubies.  There are times when an understated nuance is exactly what the day or night demands. Brunch, a garden party, dinner at that new restaurant that only the most hip have begun to frequent.  You know what I’m talking about.

There is an edge to gemless jewelry that is undeniable.  It has to survive on its own.  Make an impact with only metals and sometimes pearls to do its bidding.  Yet, it succeeds.  The secret is in the craftsmanship and the luster of the metals themselves. The ability to appreciate this is what distinguishes the jewelry connoisseur
from the window shopper.

Marco Bicego Siviglia Drop Earrings

Take, for example, these Marco Bicego Siviglia Drop Earrings.  They are luminous, engaging, swinging proudly in their own right with no need of embellishment. The 18 karat hand engraved yellow gold ovals flatter the wearer as they gently sway, reflecting warmth onto your skin.  You are the gem, and these earrings a masterful setting. Imagine how they look in sunlight, candlelight, moonlight. Have you ever looked so dazzling?

Alor Multi Colored Bangle

Color is not a deterrent for gemless jewelry either.  Just look at this Alor Multi Colored Bangle.  It packs a fruit punch of color with 18 karat yellow gold and four flavors of stainless steel.  This Nautical Cable bangle is yummy whether dining dockside or sailing off for adventure.  Even landlubbers will welcome its saltwater breezes and Nantucket flair. Sure to become your summer favorite, it looks just as fantastic in spring, winter and fall!

Honora Small Beaded Pearl Earrings

Honora Small Beaded Pearl Earrings

Of course we all know that pearls are super hot now, and they certainly accentuate these Small Beaded Pearl Earrings from Honora in sterling silver.  But we think the true stars are the gold-toned beads themselves.  These earrings pack a lot of drama into a relatively small space. Cunningly set, the pearls are the perfect accent to the almost military precision of these dress uniform half hoops. Eye-catching with your favorite LBD or swanky suit, these earrings speak volumes about your impeccable sense of style.

Alor Classique Tri-Color Necklace

Here’s a necklace with undeniable presence.  From Alor’s Classique Collection, may we present the Tri-Color Necklace…of your dreams!  Rose cable, yellow cable and grey cable combine with 18 karat yellow gold and stainless steel to bring you an intricate interplay of delicate loops that ramp it up just in time for a big neckline finish. Craftsmanship at its best.  Plain Janes step back, there is nothing for you to see here!

The takeaway from today’s blog?  Gems don’t always make the jewelry.  When you’re dealing with fantastic time-proven designers who take pride in their talents, gemless jewelry can be just as alluring and powerful as gem laden. Many opportunities will present themselves for you to wear your “bare” beauties, and reveal yourself as the sparkling, effervescent jewel that you are!

Feminine Motif Jewelry—Spring’s Softer Side

We don’t know if it’s the return to balmy weather, or the influence of all those birds and bees doing whatever it is they do, but this spring heralds a definite return for feminine motif jewelry. Blossoms, ribbons, butterflies and bows, all the girly things we women love have been exerting their charm on the spring runways.

Maybe today’s women have finally become secure enough to realize that they don’t have to give up the things they love to be the person they want to be. Sure, we can run our own companies, wear pants and cut our hair short, but we are still women, and there are just some things we refuse to do without.

Like flowers. What woman doesn’t love flowers? Combine flowers with gems and you’ve got a few of our favorite things… Floral jewelry can resemble literal flowers, like these Pink Sapphire and Freshwater Pearl Earrings set in 14 karat yellow gold, freshly picked for you, milady.

Diamonds are a Girl’s Best April Birthstone!

Congratulations, April babies you have won the birthstone lottery! As much as girls born in other months may cherish their own special birthstones, rest assured that they all secretly envy you.  Some more than others!

The name diamond comes from the Greek word “adamas,”meaning invincible. Diamonds come in a wide range of colors, including yellow, orange, black, blue, purple, green, pink and red.  These diamonds are known as “fancy,” and the color is created by impurities in the stone, such as yellow for nitrogen and blue for boron.

Luckily for the rest of us, there is nothing to stop anyone from enjoying the beauty and magnificence of diamond jewelry. Today’s diamond jewelry comes in a variety of styles from playful to elegant, and can be enjoyed all day-and all night- long. So don’t be an April fool, put those diamonds on and shine, shine, shine!

Everything’s Coming Up Rose Gold

There’s no question that there has been a trend in gold this year. Rose Gold in particular has risen and remained at the top of women’s fashion must-have lists.

It’s really no wonder that this gold is so popular. The softness of rose gold can add a feminine, yet glamorous, touch to your look in any season.

Rose gold first rose to popularity in the 19th century in Russia. During the 1920s, Cartier debuted the now iconic Trinity ring of rose, white, and yellow gold, bringing rose gold back to the forefront of fashion. Although Rose Gold is currently trending, it’s not to be confused with a simple fad. Rose Gold is classically beautiful and easy to wear with many outfits. It is so sought-after today, that even Apple is introducing a Rose Gold tone iPhone this year–finally!

Ready to embrace the beauty of Rose Gold? This simple yet elegant 18 karat rose gold Marrakech bracelet by Marco Bicego unites femininity and minimalism masterfully. Less is definitely more with this beauty.
