September is the time for fashion weeks worldwide. London debuted on Sept. 16–20, New York on Sept. 21-27 and Paris right behind them on Sept. 27-Oct. 5. Most people watch these shows and oooh and aaaah over the amazing clothes, but the experts at the Pantone Color Institute have a job to do. Once again, they have chosen New York Fashion Week to announce the top 10 colors that will grace homes and closets in Spring 2017.
Making the selections are a group of color experts from around the world. These experts track global color trends and evaluate their usage in upcoming fashion collections. The colors are assigned a name and a color code, so designers can order a variety of goods, like shoe, purses, towels and dishes, all in the same colors.
The colors selected for 2016 were Buttercup Yellow, Fiesta Red, Green Flash, Iced Coffee, Lilac Grey (loved it!), Limpet Shell Blue, Peach Echo, Rose Quartz, Serenity Blue and Snorkel Blue. You must have seen these colors when you were out and about shopping this year.
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the colors of Spring 2017!
This time there are three blues, Lapis Blue, Niagra and Island Paradise. As you would assume, Lapis Blue is the deep vibrant color of the semi-precious stone, lapis lazuli. A color also frequently found in sapphires, Lapis Blue is wonderfully represented in this Gregg Ruth Espris Collection Diamond and Sapphire Ring. This 18 karat white gold ring is on point with 0.88cts of round diamonds and bright blue sapphires to die for.
Look to this picture of beloved designer Marco Bicego’s Topaz Delicati Necklace for an example of Niagra blue. It’s been described as looking like a worn pair of jeans, but we think the darker mid-tone blue with grey influence mimics the cold running waters of a northern river. Hmm, Niagara/Niagra, one wonders….
The third blue in this lineup is lovely Island Paradise. The color of glacier ice or tropical light turquoise waters, we are torn between “Frozen” and beaches for a description. Let these Patras Aquamarine Earrings from Ivanka Trump do it for us. Stunning aquamarines almost the color in question are surrounded by 0.75cts of diamonds in 18 karat white gold settings. Thanks for settling that one, Ivanka!
Next up we have sunny Primrose Yellow. More lemony than last year’s Buttercup, this color, like the Primrose itself, is a harbinger of Spring. Again, we turn to designer Gregg Ruth for a shining example in this Yellow Diamond Pendant consisting of 18 karat white and yellow gold, accompanied by 0.53cts of white and yellow diamonds.
Greenery is always a nice highlight in any bouquet. The same is true of this natural color selection. Greenery is more organic and mossy than last year’s Green Flash. It works amazingly well with most of the other color selections. As an example, look at the green of this vibrant tourmaline available in Marco Bicego’s 18 karat hand-engraved yellow gold Jaipur Ring.
Oddly enough, another one of Bicego’s stackable Jaipur rings features a splashy pink tourmaline that mirrors Pink Yarrow, another 2017 color. Stack them together for double fashion impact!
If you prefer a gentler pink, you are sure to be a fan of Pink Dogwood – and we have the perfect bracelet for you! As refined and elegant as you are, these Cream and Pink South Sea Tahitian Pearls find a worthy setting in the diamond and 18 karat rose gold of this bypass bangle. Button up your twin set or pick your favorite little black dress, slip on this Diamond and Pearl Bypass Bangle and you are good to go – anywhere!
Things heat up with Flame, the next color on the list, which, as you might expect, is a bright fiery orange. Also inspired by nature, the second green, Kale, is a color most closely exemplified by the band and dial of this Victorinox Swiss Army Men’s Inox watch. With luminous accents, date window and logo, this watch is water resistant to 200 meters and comes with a three-year limited warranty.
Last but not least, Pantone gives us Hazelnut. A splendid neutral with warm flesh tones, Hazelnut and rose gold are a natural pairing. This Bertolucci Women’s Diamond Serena Garbo watch is the perfect example. Stainless steel and rose gold work beautifully together with 180 diamonds and a curved crystal with antireflective treatment. If Hazelnut were a metal, it would be this shade of rose gold.
So there you have it, the Pantone 2017 lineup of fashionable colors. We know that we’ve already picked our favorites, how about you? Keep an eye out and be a color detective this year. See how many of these shades you can spot in your favorite stores. Strut your fashionista knowledge like a model on the catwalk.
